...do you feel you'd be up to the task?
You're being called away for something, whether it's business, family emergency, end of the world, you happen to be of a certain religion or race in WWII, etc. And all you're allowed to bring with you is one bag of items, if that.
Would you be able to move with all of your things?
What would you bring?
How big is your bag?
I'd like to think I'd be able to move, but honestly, I have so much stuff that I don't know where I'd begin. I would grab the tablet and laptop, box of cables, and then a pair of jeans, jumper, sweater, and cram as many of my shoes as humanly possible into the rest of the bag.
This discussion was inspired by the movie Up In The Air, and a cluttered bedroom.

This is more about your ability to move quickly; have you rooted yourself down by your possessions, or are you able to keep what you consider essentials and travel freely?

I think about moving like that all of the time. I would be able to travel and pretty much live in my car if I needed to. Honestly, the only thing stopping me from doing so is the fact that I have reptiles that need electricity 24-7 to live.
I forgot to add that I really do not have many things aside from my computer and art supplies. I'm a fairly simple person and do not require much to survive. I'm not very material.

Yeah, I think I could then, I mean, I'm in my last year of high school at the moment, so I'm out of here in February anyway. I've been building myself to move for a while.

The thing is, I'd be pretty ready. I've been psyching myself up for that kind of thing for so long. It's just a matter of putting into practice what you've been mulling over for so long...
My bag would be pretty big. Um, clothes of various sorts. Maybe a pillow?

Honestly, I don't think I'd be able to move just like that. I'm not prepared to do it, so I'd move only if something made me have to move. In which case, I'd probably get two bags (a small one and a big one) and pack clothes, glasses, contacts, hygiene stuff, make sure my dogs would be in a safe home, get all my savings and split.
Still be pretty rough, I'm not mentally prepared for that yet.

I spent my whole life moving - I've never had a gap of more than seven years in one place. I've flown in an airplane more than most people will do in their entire lives - over thirty times. I'd be sad to leave, but I could.
The bag I like to bring is a sports duffel bag - big, with lots of room! I'd bring three changes of clothes and wear as many more as possible to save room. I'd pack my phone charger, phone, netbook and charger, kindle, wallet, glasses and hygiene and spend the rest of the room packing precious memories: a beloved stuffed animal, pictures of my family and from my childhood, things that are special and meaningful.
I'd also fight tooth and nail not to have to leave my dog!

Yeah I think I would be fine with it. I'm going to Uni in October so I'm already in the "get up and go" mind set. 2 years ago I likely wouldn't have been okay with it.
I wouldn't be able to leave with all my stuff just like I wont be able to then but I would take my laptop, a few clothes ect, some sheets and a towel from my own house for comfort and the things my boyfriend has gotten me.

I'd like to keep my stuff, but if I had to dash, I'd just grab my bag (which has my ID, cash etc in) a few sentimental things, and maybe a change of clothes and I'd be good to go.... you can rebuy most stuff. Only the sentimental stuff and the practical, hard to replace shit is absolutely necessary.

Seeing as I have lived in 5 locations in the past two years it would be pretty easy for. I would take my laptop, a few books, A couple weeks worth of clothes and a stack of papers. Along with money for food.

If my life was in danger of course I could grab some essentials and run. A few changes of versatile clothes, sturdy and comfortable shoes, a few sentimental mementos (say that five times fast), and some personal hygiene items. But were it not a matter of life or possible death, no. I'm pretty married to a lot of my things. I'm really visual, I love decorations and useless tchotchkes. So if I ever do have to move a long distance (and I probably will), it's going to be... an adventure. But I would at least do some purging. Get rid of the things that I don't really want, all the crap that tends to accumulate. But I'm not, like, leaving behind my video games or something.

I travel a lot. When I go to my family's house in Greece I live out of one suitcase for months. My only essentials are clothes, toothbrush/toothpaste, soap, shampoo, sunblock, camera, MP3 player and wallet. All can easily fit in my carry-on. If I could bring a whole suitcase, then I'd pack a couple of novels and my DS and some games. But meh, not needed.
I'd be totally fine if I had move away for whatever reason. I'm not attached to posessions because they can be replaced easily enough.

I have far too many things, too. My husband and I have discussed living in a motor home for the past few years and trying to figure out what we would take. I'll edit this post at a later time.

No, I would not be able to move as I currently am not in a position to move. If I was forced to move because of a disaster or something then that would be a different situation, as I would HAVE to move.
If it were family, it would depend on the family member in question. If it were for my job? Maybe, but I'd have to be paid really good in order for me to move.
I do have too much stuff to properly move and besides, I couldn't move on just one bag -- there's my cat, my clothes, my writing notebooks, and other personal items that are just too important to leave behind.
