My first summer job I get (that my employer wasn't family) I end up getting a nanny possition. Now, I love kids but I have no idea what to do with them for nine straight hours. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips and activities I could use to keep them occupied and happy so they won't hate me and I can still have the job next summer. They are two boys, ages seven and ten, and they like sports and such but other than that, how will I keep them occupied?! I would love if you guys could tell me what you loved to do during the summer break and if you had any babysitters or nannies, why you liked them or didn't like them. It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

When I babysat boys, we spent a lot of time playing video games 8) They got a kick out of the fact that an older girl liked to play or watch, too. We also played the Pokemon and Yugioh card games, and after asking them what they liked to do with their parents, I found out that they learned and liked to play Texas Hold 'Em. So we played that for a while!

If there's a park nearby you could always take them there, or even swimming if there's a pool in the yard or a community pool. Video games once in a while are a good idea, maybe even a picnic or something.

Kids usually take care of themselves. I spent a few hours watching a toddler move furniture around; he tired himself out enough that all I had to do was put him in some cute pajamas and lay him to bed.

At that age, the boys will have plenty of suggestions and you'll be plenty busy fulfilling them. What I like to do is play outside for a bit, then have some lunch, then watch a movie with a treat like popcorn. It settles them down for a bit and gives you a chance to relax.

And with video games these days, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to play on those for a few hours.

And Lego. If they have bricks that a good way to keep them occupied. Video games, and even certain books like Encyclopedia Brown. They will probably be rotting their brains with DVDs and video games. If you can draw or do crafts some kids really go for that. Some kids that age are really lethargic and it will be easier to deal with, but some of the kids have a ton of energy and there will be a lot of running around.

Be prepared, though -- some kids are whiny, rude, and fight with their siblings all the time. Some parents are so demanding and think their brats are the chosen one -- it all depends. Scheduling and routine helps, though.

Good luck!
