Sales everyone likes sales except when it's not really a sale.
More and more I've come across sales which are advertised as having specific items on sale then getting to the shop everything else advertised is on sale yet the item I've gone for isn't.
Yet when asked they check and come back to you saying that it's deffinitly not on the system it's not on sale. Then you sometimes come across the sales assistant that knows what you're talking about and will put it though at the reduced price for you.
Or they've taken the smallest ammount they can off of the original price WAS £25.00 NOW £24.99 you've taken 1p off you've taken a WHOLE PENNY off.
So have you had experiences of this ?
Has the till operator even though the system says it's not on sale put an item though at sale price for you ?
What is the worst "sale" you've ever come across ?

You could've called ahead because not all stores of a certain chain will have all the advertised "sales."
Like McDonalds. Their lemonade thing is supposed to be a dollar (awhile back). It wasn't at mine because that isn't their commercial -rolls eyes-
Most places I go to, I don't go because of a sale. Sometimes I luck out and there is one. Like every single time I got to Hot Topic or Spencers....they have a sale of body jewerly usually....which reminds me.....I want a nose ring from there.
And I've had a waitress put something else down on the ticket....that made our food cheaper. She was nice :3

I've seen some clothing stores say that all shorts or t shirts or something are now 25% off, but it's not really a sale because they'll just increase the original selling price, so that after taking 25% off, it ends up being what it was selling for a week ago.

I've taken to going specificly to the larger shops because they have a larger range but some places they are rather dozy and don't mark down prices they do the first 5 get bored and wonder off or I end up picking up the one where they've stuck one marked down price on two tickets.
Most of the time when it's a chain and they're not franchised I've found the staff haven't even been told when things are reduced, it's on the system but no one's said about putting out the 50% OFF signs out which always comes as a nice supprise when you don't realize it.
That's like the 2 day sales most places do try and get rid of as much stock as possible then when it starts to warm up people go buy at full price because it wasn't the weather to get them before.

That's true, it's always nice when something happens to be cheaper than you expected. I have noticed that happening much more often at big department stores, like Macy's. Sometimes, it'll be marked on sale, but the price will be even lower than the advertised sale price.
I always try to buy things out of season when possible, to take advantage of the sales. And at the end of the season, items also go on sale, like shorts at the end of summer, or boots at the end of winter. I try to stock up for next year.

My boyfriend was just telling me yesterday about a trick they use at the grocery store he works at. They've got a store brand soda that's absolutely nasty and doesn't sell well at all. So they put it up near the front with a sign that said "SPECIAL," didn't alter the price at all and it just flew off the shelves.
Not quite the same thing, but Kohl's sales annoy me. Every rack will be plastered with "25% OFF!" etc. but even marked down, the prices are just ridiculous for what you're getting. Like, marked down, a necklace will be $12. And not even a super great necklace, a really boring, "it's kind of cute" necklace. Hell, sometimes even 80% off, their clothes are still full-priced by other stores' standards. And like, I get that some stores are more expensive than others, but Kohl's clothing is just not worth what they're charging! It's pretty generic and boring and the quality just isn't that great.

This kind of makes me think of Gamestop's specials.
Like 50% bonus trade in credit. One game....with that was 75 cents trade in credit.
Hell without it I would've only gotten 15 dollars for a copy of the Sims 3 that was played once. Only once and cost 60 dollars.
I traded in 12 games with the 50% bonus. I barely got a little bit more than 50 dollars.
I know this isn't exactly a sale thing......but it is in a way......and was the reason why I was willing to trade in.

That's better than what alot of places would give, I saw a window advert in Game actually stating that they would beat any offer by £1 some games that would make what they've giving you double.
Pre-owned games are the worst thing being on "Sale" they have a marked down price and then the sale price is 10% off.
Impluse selling I hate that as well Would you like any of the items here for so much ? I'm buying all the stuff from the sale section that should tell you something about me.

As a cashier at Walmart, I mark down stuff all the time for customers. We have a policy that if it's advertised for less elsewhere, we'll match it. Say, a box of cereal, normally priced, at Walmart is $3.25. Another store has it advertised for $2.00. If a customer comes through, we have to mark it down to $2.00 instead.
We have the authority, for minor purchases, to price override items. Say if someone grabbed an item from the clearance aisle for a dollar, and it rings up for a different price, we can change it to the correct (one dollar) price. If it's something large (usually over $20) we have to have the manager approve it.
And since Walmart is a rather large store, in the closest bigger city, we get a lot of people with mispriced items or competitor ad prices.

@ll P W E E P ll I remember marking down items from when I worked at Wal-Mart. The thing with the competitor pricing though was they had to have the competitor's ad in hand to prove it - we couldn't just take their word for it. It was both amusing and frustrating when people would get mad about that.
I've never had anyone mark down a price for me, but I've done the marking down plenty of times. While most of our sales last a month and don't change until the first, our beer prices change all the time. The delivery guy comes in once a week and he's SUPPOSED to double-check what everything's ringing up for in our system before he puts up any new signs with sale prices on them.
The Keystone/Busch guy is good about this. The Bud guy, not so much.
So at least once a week we have someone come in, grab some beer, and point out it's ringing up for more than the tag says. I don't mind having to mark down the price, but people not doing what they said they would gets on my nerves.

You should call em up about that if they advertise a certain item then it isnt! Its against business legislation to false advertise!
You should go in a suit looking all high and mighty and say "sir....have you heard about the Fair trading act?"...."
He'll soon shut up xDD
Even though somehow every business seems to do it anyway 0.o
