Could You Do It?

Say you got offered the chance to live forever, could you do it? Would you thrive or would you flounder? If you did choose to live forever, what would you choose to do?

If I got the chance to live forever, I would take it. I would do all the things that I wanted to do and devote my time to becoming really talented in many different things.

Actually... a story I'm writing was based after this idea: if you could live forever, what would you do with it?

I don't know. I'm torn. I think I'd like to live forever, to see the world evolve, but at the same time... I'd see people I love grow old and die when I couldn't... and that would really be hard.

Himalia 09-11-2011 06:36 PM

That was the thing that got me, though there's actually very few people that I love enough to care deeply. xD

CollanaEstoria 09-11-2011 06:37 PM

I would on only one condition... that my husband live forever as well. If that was not offered I would not take it.

Himalia 09-11-2011 06:41 PM

I think that would have to be included as well. I could handle life without most other people, but my penguin is for life. xD

CollanaEstoria 09-11-2011 06:45 PM

My penguin too. That is the only reason I would ever want to live forever is to always be with him.

Himalia 09-11-2011 06:48 PM

Finally someone got the term penguin! xD A forever without a penguin is not a forever worth living in my opinion. Doctor Who has proved that.

CollanaEstoria 09-11-2011 07:02 PM

Over and over. Poor Doctor. I think it would be even worse if you knew your penguin rather than just not finding one.

Hm, no. No, I doubt I would take the chance. I'm writing a series based off someone who lives forever, who cannot die, or be killed, because his soul was taken to save his life in the early 1600s. In his opinion (which is actually my opinion), living forever is a curse, rather than a blessing. To watch your loved ones age and die, and for you to be stuck in a young body forever? What kind of life is that? To be trapped between years, and see the tragedy that befalls those you so love? It's not worth it. And after so long, one would lose that which makes them human, if they are not careful. They would lose their emotions, or their emotions would become very dulled and useless, and make them nearly devoid of such. One will not think of it early on, no, but it may very well happen. And what of the end of the world? No one should know what it's like, but when you live forever, you may very well have no choice.

If you make friends, you will watch them grow older, move on in life, perhaps move away, or watch them age and age and die, and know you can never see them again. If you live forever. It's a sad thought, is it not? To be blessed with eternal life only to watch those you love move on to the next life, whatever that may be? You will never know.

So no, I will not take the chance to live forever. I will preserve what is left of my emotion, and the love I feel for the ones closest to me, and move on with them through this life.

I don't think I could stand watching those I love die and being alone forever. No thanks :|

If i were given a chance to live forever .. I'd rather not . . . eventually it will become boring and i hate seeing my love one's die and left me to be forever young would be another thing to think about though . . .;)

Bearzy 09-12-2011 10:12 AM

Think of all the books you could read... and re read. Na. Still not worth it. I think I'd get bored once I'd learned a few languages, conquered my fears, read every novel that caught my interest. However... If I was offered the option to stay alive as long as I wanted. I would take it. Then, if I should so choose, from boredom or despair or whatever, I could end my life. So no. I wouldn't live forever, but I wouldn't mind living for a while longer than natural.

Suicide an option?
If so, do things to make the world a better place.
Though to be honest, I'm kind of scared to live in a world without my partner.:(

I think I would rather live forever if I had been born in an earlier time period. There's much in history that I would have liked to have had the chance to see and experience firsthand.

On the other hand, I don't really have much of an interest in the future... It seems rather boring in comparison to me, honestly. It would seem rather bitterly ironic to me to be offered immortality in this century.

Cuddlymoon 09-13-2011 02:14 AM

It would be nice if you never died from old age but could be killed. That would make it much easier for me. I would love to see what the world becomes. Then I would eventually try to learn how to do a headstand:)

koromyst 09-15-2011 08:49 AM

I would want to live forever but on one condition. To be living forever in wealth. That way, I can keep up with the flow and at the same time reside in a comfortable zone in doing so.

Mystic 09-15-2011 02:17 PM

No. I have too many health problems to want to live forever. Plus it's unnatural. I think that part of life is having it end. It would be kind of neat to see what kind of advances the world go through though.

Bound Birdie 09-25-2011 10:03 AM

forever life or forever youth? No way could I handle being 386 in a wheelchair barely being able to stare, or would have I gone blind by then XD
If I could be like forever...30ish then yeah, also with the wealth factor, but then again I would have a ton of time and inflation on my side to make money off investments. I think I could do that, just travel the world and see how it evolved... since were talking dream land.
