Old, outdated Thread. Please Delete. Thank you!

Hi there.
This thread is going to be a friendly discussion on paranormal topics. Do you believe in spirits, ghosts, or other paranormal entities? If you have stories, feel free to share. I'd love to here any experiences you have had. If you don't believe in anything paranormal, then please explain why you don't.
I do believe in the paranormal. I believe in ghosts/spirits/paranormal entities.

Also, what are your thoughts on creatures? And I mean creatures such as the aliens, Loch ness Monster, Big Foot, Chupacabra, ect...

I haven't completely thrown out the idea. Some of it is a little much, but Earth is huge, who knows what's out there, eh?

So please, be polite. Do not be rude and insult others if you do not agree.

Most importantly when having a debate, remember look from both sides. I occasionally argue against the side I am most for. This allows me to see both perspectives and have an understanding on why people believe what they do.

Most of the time I feel I'm just paranoid when it comes to sounds and my own "hallucinating". I do live in Louisiana though, so hearing stories and stuff isn't really out of the ordinary. I also live extremely close to various plantations, so who knows.

As for creatures, I don't know...

I don't believe in ghosts, but a good portion of my beliefs come from my blended Christan/Buddhist upbringing. I couldn't really classify myself as either anymore, but I have definitely taken bits of both religions into my personal belief system. Because of that, I believe that everything has a soul, or spirit, whatever you'd like to call it. I think it manifests itself in all living things, and while I'm not sure if I quite believe it, I definitely like the idea of our spirits being "recycled" into new forms until they've gained enough wisdom and experience to pass on to a higher plane of existence.

I don't believe in ghosts or spirits. They tend to be the default answer for things people don't have an explanation for.

As for cryptozoology, some things are possible, others aren't. For example, an animal as large as Nessie would not be able to live in such a body of water without being found. Hell, it'd likely have a hell of a hard time finding enough food to feed itself. That's of course ignoring how long it's been rumored to exist.

Vix, I actually kind of believe in the Loch Ness. The Loch Ness Lake actually connects to the ocean. The descriptions of the Loch Ness monster resembles that of a Plesiosaur. The ocean is huge and goes mostly unexplored. It's a possibility that such a creature could have traveled it's way into the Loch Ness lake, been seen a few times, and then disappeared back into the ocean.
Who knows. Myths and legends come from somewhere though.

And as for ghosts and ect, I always find that when something can't be explained, people say something about a religion.

I simply believe because of what I've experienced. Of course, I can't prove any of it.

I'm sure people would notice a group of Plesiosaurs or at least find carcasses as was the case with the Giant Squid before there was video evidence of a living one. Yes, they come from people trying to make explanations for things they've seen/experienced. In that aspect, myths/legends and religion are similar.

I do believe in Ghost/spirits. The one that I believe that would be most realist would be Aliens. In space there has been about 1000 other galaxies found besides ours right? And those galaxies have planets revolving or could have planets revolving around there star. So, it could be a safe bet to say that life on another planet wouldn't be that much off. However I don't think they're going to come looking or spying on us anytime since it takes a freaking lot amount of light years to travel to earth and back to that galaxy and honestly I don't think they're going to waste all that resources on us yet.

The Loch Ness monster could be real, but I have to go with Vix on this one. I don't think a monster that size could not be found in that amount of water. Plus, the loch ness is fresh water, if the monster could have fled to the ocean then it shouldn't have survive in salt water.

Geek, I do believe in aliens as well. I absolutely think there are other living lifeforms out there.
As for the Loch Ness, I don't believe it is a creature of it's own, but a plesiosaur.
Sea-Monster or Shark: An Alleged Plesiosaur Carcass
Whether or not that photo is real, or just a rotting carcass of a shark, it has me wondering what is all out there.
And I don't believe that it lived in the Loch Ness lake, but accidentally wondered in there for a bit, was seen maybe once, and left

The ocean is very deep, and something so large could easily go unseen. We haven't explored 95% of the ocean. That means we only have true knowledge on 5% of the ocean. Who knows what exists down there.

There are many things in this world that we cannot explain, but try. For example, in times when we didn't have explanations for the sun setting and rising, seasonal changes, the tides shifting or fading, etc etc, we would call it the power of the Gods or Goddesses. These days, we're advanced where we can determine how a lot of things work these days.

There has always been a debate as to whether ghosts or spirits really do exist. I think there always will be. There has been technology proving and disproving spirits, so really... there's no real way to decide if that'll ever be solved.

Now, do I believe in spirits. Yes, in a way. I think in a way, our earth can somehow record a person's actions and have it forever imbedded in a loop, depending on the position of where the person was, where the sun is aligned, etc etc. Almost like an energy record of a person - though not in the sense where they are souls of people, per se. As such, I'm not too sure if they could ever interact with people who are actually living. Truth be told, I don't think I'll honestly ever know for sure, but I think the earth is a very mysterious place that we will never understand. I do not completely reject the possibility of ghosts or spirits with that in mind. It is something that is unexplained and probably will never be.

Now, as for monsters/creatures like Nessie, big foot... as I've said, this world is still a mystery to us. Everyday we go into the deep ocean, we discover a new creature. So it's not hard to imagine that something bigger could exist. For specific locations that are allocated to certain creatures, like Nessie, I'm not too sure if it would stick around a small lake. Then again, whales have gotten into lakes that lead to and from the ocean, so it's not entirely impossible.

I do believe that dragons have existed in our life time - so many cultures had their very own depiction of dragons, before they even interacted with each other. I find it too coincidental. Then again, it could have been our primal fears manifesting into an image.

I do believe in aliens. There are too many other solar systems for there to not be life on other planets. The galaxy is just too big and endless for there not to be other life. There are plenty of other systems just like ours that can easily sustain life. All it takes is just a little bit of adapting/evolution (take your pick).

I am intrested in cryptozoology. I do think that bigfoot exist, due to all the evidence(Hair, calls, footprints, photos, videos, body prints, feces) I believe that there is a living apatosarus living in the jungles of africa, and a living megaladon shark living in the meriana trench.

The world is a fascinating place, huh?

Big foot is always a creature that pops up in stories/legends. I believe a creature like does exist as well. But just like I believe that Nessie is a Plesiosaur, I believe that the creature known as big foot sounds like version of the Gigantopithecus. The largest primate (thought to be extinct) to walk this planet. Gigantopithecus looks very much like the creature known as Big Foot. Even the size, colors, and facial features are much the same.

And as for creatures such as the Megalodon, Liopleurodon, and even giant squids depicted in sailor stories, I believe they exist. As for why I believe the creatures can still be around is simple; the ocean is huge and 95% unexplored. Humans do not have the technology to fully explore the depths of the oceans. In total darkness, a creature of such a size could easily hide from human eyes. And then many non believers ask the same question, why haven't we found a body? There are many carnivores in the salty waters and a body of that size would sink instead of being pulled into currents and floating to the top.

And Kraven, why do you believe in the Apatosaurus? I'm not saying I don't, but I've never read anything on this creature still existing. It interests me.

The reason I believe that an apatosaurus lives in the congo is because found footprints, and the fact the natives have seen it for years. One time, an explorer showed a village cheif a bunch of pictures of animals. First were hippos, leopards, gorillas, and the cheif said those animals lived in the are. He was then shown pictures of bears, wolves, and deer, and the cheif said that none of those animals lived in the area. The explorer then took out a childrens book about dinosuars and showed the cheif a picture of apatosaurus. The cheif said that yes, that animal lived in the area, and in groups.

That's really interesting. I had no idea that this sighting was going on. And I love reading on things like this. I just looked it up and it seems that many people have been seeing this creature for over 2 centuries now and that the swamp it is said to dwell in goes 80% unexplored.. interesting. I didn't think any other prehistoric creatures may still exist. Now this makes me wonder even more, what else could still be out there?

I do believe it but at the same time, I tend to think it's all in my head. After all wouldn't it be? Talking about these things make me get all paranoid and when I'm paranoid it's just crazy and over-thinking on the subject. I feel like I'm crazy sometimes when I'm paranoid and I don't like that feeling. >< I know my mother believes in them and I've been told stories about spirits, ghosts and etc because we're a very spiritual culture. Kraven I haven't heard anything of that. Where did you get your information from?

Tralalala.
I remember when I asked about the same thing a few months back.
Great topic.
I myself am actually a huge fan of paranormal what-not.
I live in Arizona and this state in particular has a lot of stuff like this, we're famous for ghost towns! I live near - very near - Jerome, one of the worlds most famous ghost towns. It's really cool to be able to share the things I've seen up there with the people who come here asking. I actually have a few horror stories :P

I've taken a lot of photographs (being a photographer) around the town and captured a lot of cool stuff. I mean the glowing orbs and such could just be a reaction to the sunlight but when you find something like shapes of bodies or faces in smoke, you really begin to believe in the paranormal.

As for the mythical creatures; YES. OH MY GOD YES.
I love studying those things, gosh. When I was really little my grandma used to tell me the stories that came along with them and they were always featured in TV shows and I was just so curious to know where they came from. I recently have been looking into the "Slenderman" creature...fascinating, I must say.

I don't know if I could fully believe in a creature such as, The Lizard Man.
But, there are many strange mistakes and experiments. That would be something scary to run into.

I wish I lived closer to more haunted places. Waverly Hills Hospital, said to be one of the most haunted places ever, is about 30 minutes from where I live. I'm trying to book a tour/ghost hunt before the owner ruins the historic feel of the hospital by turning it into a bed and breakfast.

I am a strong beliver of the paranormal. I think quite a few menewshans do. There is plenty of evidence that backs up many theories involving the paranormal. I have first handed expericnces with the paranormal, and i am quite sure it wasnt a dream or figment of my imagination. :)

Oh no, Kraven is right. The lizard man is reeeeal. ~o_o~

SPOILERX

But anyway, as for what I believe...

Well I definitely believe in Aliens. It's kinda naive and downright full of ourselves if we believe that we're the only living creatures in the universe. I mean, we've only really made it to the moon (in person, I mean. I know proves and junk have gone further.) and so how can people even say we're the only ones? It just doesn't make sense.

I had a phase where I was really interested in Ghosts when I was younger. I loved learning everything about them, going to haunted buildings, and watching anything about them. I still believe in them, but I've decided to leave it alone. It's stupid to go looking for them.

I'm slightly skeptical of the Loch Ness Monster, but I'm open-minded. I know there are explanations for, and against it and I'm really not sure which one I believe yet, even though I've thought about it a lot. I think it's just going to be one of those things that I'll have to see to believe, and until then I'm going to stay with the mentality of 'Eh, could be real, also couldn't".

I don't believe in the chupacabra, but I do believe in Big Foot. If only because it's really mysterious and it's fun believing in a thing like Big Foot, y'know? I mean... who didn't have fun being mystified by the idea as a kid? I sure did. And it's still fun to think about.

As for some of the things Kraven brought up; I'm... not sure I really believe in those Apatosaurus' still being alive. I can believe in Megalodon before I can believe in Apatosaurus' still being around, simply because there's less places to hide on land than there is the sea.

But... I don't want to believe in Megalodon because I have a huge phobia of the majority of aquatic life. The deep sea fish freak me the hell out, and the thought of a gigantic shark like that is terrifying and I just... ugh. No thanks.

Nope, I've never heard of that one.

But, I watched the video of the Megladon sighting near the Mariana Trench. It was fascinating. Absolutely thrilling to think such a huge shark exists without anyone knowing.

Plus that 20 foot long tentacle that scientists pulled on board is just stunning. That squid must have been huge to have such long tentacles. Ah, the ocean is fascinating...
