I am thinking of getting a new bike and am new to riding a motorcycle. What should I get? I'm toying over getting a brand new Ninja 250R or a used 07'-ish 600. Any opinions? To narrow down suggestion ideas based on brand, I want a kawasaki. The end.

Do you really mean that or you just want an intriguing intro? LOL. I've read the actual discussion box.

I suggest Yamaha.

Read "The actual discussion" people.

EDIT:
My dad owns a DR 350 Suzuki.
I think it's pretty awesome.

First of all, where do you plan to take it?
The highways? Coastal roads?
The city? Or rocky mountains?

Soo, I went ahead and edited your first post and thread title so that people immediately see the actual discussion you're trying to put forth.

Azazel, if you aren't happy here, why do you keep returning?

Those things crash so much. I'm not even exaggerating, Almost every single person I've ever known in my life who has had a street bike has crashed them months after getting them.

(Also, I'd suggest against getting yellow, it's kind of notorious for being a douchey color for a street bike. :P)

I plan to take it literally everywhere. I live in Santa Barbara, CA so weather isn't an issue ever. As for the color, I'd like to go with either a nice candy green or white/black.

The original intro before Sizzla edited it was just for teh lols.

Also, babycock, the hard part is deciding which type of bike to go for. i.e. a normal 600 or a ZX-6. Different handlebar heights, suspension systems, etc. I know the ZX would be more for the track and the normal 600 would be better for the road but it's so hard to choose. I really like the low track riding style, but the suspension on the more "street" style is nice.

So I found and got a good deal on an '04 YZF-600R Yamaha. Looks like I will be going with that. I'll have to post pics when I get it.

Tell me you got it in something other than blue. I'd say a solid 90% of those bikes that I see on the road are blue.

I got my motorcycle license about 2 years ago and wanted to get a nice starter bike for a petite woman who had almost no motorcycle experience. After a LOT of research, I bought a 2010 Kawasaki Ninja EX250, brand new, last year. I had a seat lowering kit installed and the seat lowered 1.5 inches so I could comfortably reach the ground (I'm 5'1). I LOVE my bike. It's wicked easy to handle, lightweight, but packs plenty of power (the newer versions of the Ninja 250s have quite the kick to them). I easily got it up to 80 on a back road (not that I would want to drive it that fast regularly... I'm very much a sissy and hate taking risks... just checking how fast I could get it). I would very much recommend a newer style (like from '08 on) of the Ninja 250.
Me on my Ninja (trying to link from facebook, let's see if this works):

Warrow8282: Very Nice Warrow. I am a pretty slim guy and I thought about getting a Ninja 250R but it just doesn't pack enough punch for me. I have to agree with you that a newer style looks much better due to the way the seat and cowl look. The '04 Has a bit of a ghetto styling for my tastes but I'm solely getting it because its cheap. Kawasaki is my brand and I plan on getting a ZX-6R soon. I like the lowered handlebars that come out of a more "track" bike. If I can make two suggestions for your bike, you should get a fender eliminator kit and possibly a tinted windscreen :)

As for the color argument, if I HAVE to have a Yamaha it is going to be blue, white or black, and when I get a kawasaki it will be Green, white or black.

Ninjas are supposed to be the pinnacle of starter bikes from what I hear, never rode one myself though. It was redesigned in '07 I believe, so there are going to be noticeable cosmetic differences in the older models for sure. The 250 is going to be easier to learn on and more forgiving of mistakes which you will make if your a new rider, but you'll be quicker to grow out of it and want something more powerful. Though if you opt to get something in the 600 range you've got to remember to be careful with that extra power, especially on a bike you aren't used to. Also, wear ALL the gear ALL the time. If you don't and you find yourself going down, you've got about .68 seconds to say "shit, should've listened."

Harley's aren't bad bikes, but the price tag is usually rather daunting.

Also I'm willing to bet all those people you knew who crashed were either not ready for the bike they were on in the situation they were in, or just being your average squid douchebag, Sir D . L O Van Lobsters.
