Remember?

Quote:

Remember, Remember, the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.
Bonus points if you know that this rhyme is more than just a quote from V for Vendetta.

Double bonus points if you know the story of Guy Fawkes..

And triple bonus points if you're celebrating Guy Fawkes this year by setting off fireworks!

I bought something like eighty teency fireworks today for $15 dollars, so tomorrow night should be fun.

Are you doing anything? What are you doing?

I was just thinking the other day how, as someone from the US, a Guy Fawkes-type plot would have the complete opposite effect of what was intended. Blowing up the (in this case) US capital building would only create more galvanization into a police state.

Don't get me wrong. I know the gunpowder plot wasn't about anarchy, but it was about tolerance, and in the end it's failure led to even more anti-catholic sentiment and legislation in England.

I did an acting class, the year that V for Vendetta came out, and for my monologue I did the actual 'Gunpowder Plot' -not the line Eve does in the movie-

That ryhme always gives me goose bumps. I love the action Guy Fawkes tried to take, I may not be in for the religious aspects, but the fact he tried to take action against what he viewed as corrupt... Too bad someone couldn't keep their big mouth shut, and decided to warn a cousin in Parliment... *eyeroll*

At my work we're doing a Pet Adoption show, trying to support the local animal shelters, and find some puppies and kittens a home. After work I may go drinking with my friends, for one of the girls birthdays, and if I do, I'll do a toast for Guy Fawkes.

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
I'll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

I'd love to celebrate it this year, But. I also would like to not get arrested this year as well.....So, This year I am doing nothing. Mostly because I don't have much of a choice. D:

Guy Fawkes planned to blow up Parliament and kill the Protestant king.

So I just got back from watching fireworks in my friend's yard.... I have come to the conclusion that tweenage boys are slightly more fun to be around when they have access to fireworks. "How far can we kick a cascade?!" - Fun times...
