Make-Up Talk.

I have a problem.

Actually I have many many problems.

But let's just discuss one of them for the sake of simplicity.

Make-up. I'll be honest, I'd like to start using it. The one feature I like about my face is my eyes, and I'd like to make them pop, if you know what I mean. I'm not interested in looking like a painted raccoon or hiding my ~natural beauty~ or whatever it is people think I have, but I'd like to look pretty sometimes. At parties, maybe. And not be the only idiot with a clearly visible pimple on facebook photos. Not that I have pimples. A few. But I'm dramatizing for effect.

But this isn't a self-pity thread or it'd be on Life Issues forum. I want to know if you wear make-up. Do you wear a lot? Do you know what to use and what to buy? I find that a lot of girls have problems buying the right products, myself included. And how the hell do you put it on, because seriously, I always poke my eyes out when I try, it's irritating.

But moving on. Actually I have a pertinent question: how much is too much eyeliner? I have seen pictures of girls who look like ghosts because they cover their whole eyes in black, why do some girls think that's pretty and why do guys find that attractive? All I see is a small patch of white and then MASSIVE BLACK VOID but now I'm derailing a bit.

I apologize for this incoherency, but I think everyone gets this is about make-up talk. XD

deadwingxx 12-07-2011 02:49 PM

Aww, hah. Ghosts.
I actually like really shocking make-up, so I can't exactly relate there, however...

As far as eyeliner goes, you can either buy cheap store brand, or take a visit to Sephora. Though, Sephora tends to be expensive, so... -w-

Maybelline (a widely available store brand) makes a nice liner called "LineStiletto"~ I used it for awhile, and it's pretty easy to handle. (:

As far as hiding pimples go, you'll probably want a foundation!
I cannot tell you how much I loooove BareEscentuals products- they're really the best. This is where I would actually recommend a visit to Sephora. Pick up a good primer (the BE primer is great as well, "PrimeTime") and then a powder foundation from BE (: I believe Sephora has starter kits, as well. It's a little pricey, but it's well worth it, and will make a huge difference between caked on makeup and flawless face. Also, BE's line has stuff for different skin types, so there's never much to worry about. (:

Hope this helped!

I always wear make-up. I refuse to leave the house without it. It kinda becomes an obsessive thing though, I wish I had never bothered wearing it in the first place. The amount depends on where i'm going but my normal style is black/white eyeshadow (the inside half of my eyelid white, outside black), full black eyeliner (top, bottom and on the top of the bottom eyelid thing. . . No idea how to explain that xD) although I try to keep the lines pretty thin and foundation.

Most of my stuff is from Avon, i've tried store brands and stuff but this seems to work best for me and is cheap, so I wont complain.

All I can really say is, make sure you find the right colour foundation and don't look like an orange, it's so not attractive. Other than that, just experiment with different eyeshadow/eyeliner colours, they're fun. The whole poking your eye out issue fades away with practice too.

I have well defined eyes for an Asian and usually just use a small line on the upper lid though I can go as dramatic as visual key. Our upper eyelid just eats up the make up.

I think most makeup is made for Caucasians and those with yellow, olive and darker tones have some difficulty. Even the yellow toned make up I use don't actually match my skin so I can't wear foundation without my face looking unnatural. The best I can use is BB Cream.

I know how to wear my makeup. It's kind of hard for me to find methods because I sit in between have a double and not having a double eyelid and methods vary for shape as well.

I wear nothing on a normal day, a little when I have a business presentation, a bit more when I go out for dinner with my partner, and a lot for my partner and myself at home. I feel naked going out with make up on contrary to most people. :P

I've tried BareEscentuals, does not work for me. T_______T I either look sickly, pale, jaundiced or clownish.

deadwingxx 12-07-2011 03:15 PM

Pa-chinko:; Awww, really? ):
This is why the make-up world is so diverse. *-* So many things can effect the outcome...

BE looks really good on my skin, as they have a powder that's -dead on- with my skin tone. Their lightest, actually~

Back to the topic...
Either way, it really just depends on your skin~
I'd say get samples of a few things, and find one that you like ^^

Either way, if you're using foundation, don't forget primer. ;_; Ever. It helps so much!

SexualPlacebo 12-07-2011 03:19 PM

What's primer?
What does it do? xD

NeuzaKC 12-07-2011 03:24 PM

^ That. XD

My goodness I am so stupid. Look at these replies and I'm sitting here going "oh-kay...?" Also which is better, pencil eyeliner or liquid?... If the terms aren't completely screwed up, that it. What do you call it? Gah. Fine. Whatever it may be. XD I swear I'm a girl, but I think I know less about this than any guy ever.

SexualPlacebo 12-07-2011 03:26 PM

Pencil eyeliner rubs off on me really quickly, I guess I have oily skin. :/
So I use liquid eyeliner. I also find it easier to apply.

Oh and it doesn't smudge so easy.

RoadToGallifrey 12-07-2011 06:28 PM

I have good skin, so I very rarely use foundation (I don't even own my own, I borrow my mum's haha). I wear make-up every day though, just what I do with it varies depending on where I go. Day to day I wear black eyeliner (liquid) which I put on in a thick line on the top lid and then thinly round the bottom lid, and I always do a flick at the sides of my eyes (though the thickness of the top line and the style of the flicks change depending on how rushed I am or what mood I'm in). Then I'll wear a grey eyeshadow or a pink glitter eyeshadow (though it's a light pink so it doesn't clash with my skin). Then I'll just put on a coat of mascara and some lip gloss.

For going out my make-up varies greatly, I love experimenting with it. (: As for brands, I'll just use whatever's there.

Get some foundation to cover your zits but if you already have zits, it might be hard to find the right foundation that covers and doesn't give you more zits. :0
And get some liquid liner with a felt tip to do a cat eye, which is super easy to do.
YOU'RE WELCOME <:

It's like painting something- you put a primer on first, because it helps the "paint" to set, and gives a nice finish~

In this case, the primer I use is just a clear gel that I put on my face- it really makes a difference, though. :3 Instead of it -looking- like I'm wearing powder foundation, it just looks like my skin. It's great.

Try it sometime. P:

SexualPlacebo 12-07-2011 08:17 PM

I might actually have to, that sounds good. o:
Although, I use liquid foundation and it usually looks okay.

deadwingxx 12-07-2011 08:41 PM

I actually use a primer, then liquid, then a light dusting of powder. I use it all sparingly; a little can go a long way. :3 Though on days when I didn't use powder (or liquid, in some cases) it still helped to set the foundation. ;)

SexualPlacebo 12-07-2011 08:47 PM

Well then i'll definitely try it out. (:

Ooh, I know what these are! And they look super cute on almost any eye shape. :D

I agree with you on the BB Cream, I wear it all the time instead of foundation because I've never ever found a foundation that matches my skin tone.

For my make-up, I find it hard to apply eyeliner because my eyes are mono-lidded on some days and double lidded on others, and sometimes it's one eye that's mono-lidded and one eye that's double lidded. :XD. Because of that, I tend to not wear so much eyeshadow and more eyeliner and mascara.

I really like Bobbi Brown products or Sephora for my eyes~

That was the 'flicks' that I was talking about too. ;D Though I have a felt tip eyeliner and I hate that, it's more grey than black. I personally think that liquid eyeliner is the best.

Aspinou 12-07-2011 10:12 PM

I rarely use much makeup anymore, I don't have the patience to put it on everyday.
When I use it I really don't care much how it looks, I just try to make something fun out of it and experiment from time to time. What I almost always use is foundation. I use one that is very light, I'm very pale, only in the summer I have some colour and then I don't use foundation. Some people think it looks weird that I look so pale, but the problem is that if I use something darker it looks weirder! I don't like powder so i just use very little of that. Personally I don't really have a problem with looking like a ghost so.
For the eyes I really don't know what to do with, I have small eyes and using a very sharp eyeliner makes them look weird I think so I use something softer and shadow some. But as I said it depends from time to time. XD
For the mouth I use nothing, I think all those things are icky.

Mika Rose 12-07-2011 10:30 PM

I wear makeup; I'm one of those people who can't stand to go out in public without it. I don't think I really wear a lot, though; the only thing that I'm really obsessive about is eye makeup, and I also wear foundation just to cover acne and red splotches and all of that. I don't really know that much about makeup either, though.

I've used both liquid and powder foundation, and I definitely prefer the powder... The liquid made my skin look weird and scary, in my opinion. xD

As for eye makeup, I use eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow. I've almost always used liquid eyeliner; my skin is really oily and the pencil kind always ends up melting by the end of the day. I actually put my eyeliner under my eyes; some people seem to put it above and some put it under. For me, putting it over makes my eyes look smaller and makes the dark circles under my eyes a lot more noticeable. I also use mascara, which is probably the most important makeup to me because my eyelashes are basically invisible without it. >.> And I've been wearing eyeshadow for the past year or so; I put a light silvery color on top (in the area under my eyebrow) and a grayish color on the eyelid itself. I know it sounds like a lot, but for some reason people seem to think I don't wear any makeup at all.

I don't like to use lipstick or lip gloss or any of that. It feels kind of gross to me, and, being as pale as I am, I feel like pretty much any color is too dark or bright on me.

Pa-chinko 12-07-2011 11:27 PM

Primer is great for foundation though after using BB Cream, I stopped foundation.
That stuff is amazing. X_X Acts like a primer + foundation and changes colour a little, nor does it feel heavy if you find the right one.

I used a lot and experimented with heaps of foundation and BB creams... even the latter, made for Asians in particular isn't perfect. >.< I adore Etude House and has the only colour that comes closest.

I tend to use your basic chemist brands with a few specialties if they're on sale like Bourjois. God their brushes and make up feel like clouds. X_X

And I love my Too Faced Mood Swing Lipgloss. It changes shades. XD

lightkanna 12-07-2011 11:54 PM

I don't wear make-up. Though I think it would be nice and all I don't think I would want to wear any. Even if I am going older. D: I'm just not interested in prettying up my face for everyone to see. .-. Since I already see myself as an ugly person, I don't see the point. XD

Elwing 12-08-2011 12:16 AM

I do wear make-up, it has become a part of how I look over the last few years, even my friends say so.
I like to make cat-eyes with eye pencil/liner, curl my lashes and wear some mascara for that extra pop.
Never forget to curl your eyelashes for that awake look, is what I learned ;) I like to do this every day,
it has become a part of me I guess. Sometimes I wear smokey eyes bit imo it makes me look older, and
the eyeshadow always stacks up in my upper eyelid, which leaves a black line =/
Sometimes I wear brown eyeshadow to make my blue eyes stand out a little more.

I do use a little foundation because my skin is not very pretty, I have frecles and they form these
'freckle groups' as I name them XD And to make my face less shiny I use some powder, else my
t-zone is way too shiny for my likes xD

I find eyeliner/pencil too much when it is too thick, and when people put it in the inside of the lower eyelid,
your eye only looks smaller and darker, I used to do it and it wasnt pretty actualy XD

By the way if you have pimples and red spots, I discovered something, it's very old actualy.
This green coverstick, that 'neutralizes' all the redness, just put a little bit on the red spots and then
some foundation or powder over it, it works for me when I have pimples again or red spots afterwards.
Don't overdo it though you don't want to look like Shrek.

Chocolate_Fusion 12-08-2011 03:55 PM

I feel rather simple compared to most that have posted here. They have so much intel on what sort of make up they like and prefer, and are pretty sure of how they wear it on a day to day basis.

I only ever wear eye make-up. No lip stick, no foundation, no blush, none of that. I only put eye-liner on my upper and lower eye lids, on the hair line, followed by a good amount of mascara(sp). When I am feeling fancy I might put eye-shadow on, but only a very light color, almost unnoticable, but I know its there so it makes me feel special XD

I disagree, I look wrong without it on the inside of the lower lid. :/
All depends on personal features I think.

How does that work? No, seriously, I'm curious. I always thought blue would make blue eyes stand out more, like my friend does. She has super blue eyes and she uses blue eyeliner.

And what's coverstick? I don't know what that is.
