I'm from Southeast Asia, the Philippines. I was born and grew up in the southern island of Mindanao. The Philippines climate is tropical, so I have yet to see and feel snow in real life. Some people may love living in a tropical country but I prefer colder climates. I just prefer shivering from the coldness than sweating and feeling like your close to fainting from the heat.

My friend yanyan13: wants me to move out to Manila and live next door to him, I say he's trying to kill me! [illgetu] As a Brit, the heat and humity in the Philippines would be way more than I could handle. [gonk]
|
Oh please jelly... the heat would be the least of your problems... you'd be living next to YAN...
|
I agree. I would advise you not to live here. Visit, yes, but not live here if you don't like heat and humidity.
I visited Makati City once, just below Manila. It was hot but the places I went were windy so at least the wind cooled me down a bit. I live in the south part of the Philippines and earlier this year we had a couple of weeks of continuous rain so it got cold. Those weeks were the happiest I've ever been about the weather. My sisters were complaining that it was too cold but I don't think it wasn't THAT cold compared to other places. The temperature reached to 18 degrees celsius during those times. |
i see that there arent very many people from idaho 0A0

I can handle Yan [t2h] He doesn't scare me! [lol]
Having experience that lovely high heat/ humidity combo in Forida though, I know I'd not be able to handle Manila. [sweat] Sestina: Yan loves it when it's been raining a lot too. [yes] Unless we're talking typhoons and flooding of course. He's in a higher part of Manila so has avoided flooding so far, but he's near a reservoir that came very, very close to overflowing during the last prolonged period of rain, so he's been really lucky. Especially as the government in Manila actually increased the flooding a couple of years back, by letting water out of the reservoir and flooding more of the lowest (and poorer) areas of the city, to save the homes of the rich people. [stare] |
@jellysundae Whoa! I didn't know that the reason for the increased flooding was for the rich people's safety. >:o That is just so wrong! I'm not surprised I haven't ever heard about that in the national news here though, they always hide the real truth from the public and then distract the public with other shallow "celebrity" drama. |
Yeah, I was disgusted when Yan told me. Especially as another Menewsha member was really badly effected by this particular flood, she's much closer to the city centre and her home was under 5 feet of water. : /

Tsk2x :( It upsets me hearing these kinds of things. Worse, it annoys me to no end that our government are really slow in trying to solve the flooding problem in Manila (if they're even trying at all). Rainy season usually starts at June here and it's sad to know that what's going to happen will probably be the same as before. I even heard from a friend of mine that she was told that there was a group of French people visiting the Philippines in Cebu City. They were an organization of some sort from a university and they wanted to help the local government to improve our place, help the homeless, protect the environment, better governing, and such. They didn't ask for any money BUT my friend said the airheads present in the city hall that time were the ones asking the organization for money. In the end, the org gave up trying. This happened a year or two ago and I don't think I'll ever forget this. It just shows how selfish and greedy some, if not the majority, of our politicians are. |
Cebu huh? Menewsha's owner lives and works in Cebu now [ninja]
|
I didn't know Menewsha is owned by a fellow Filipino! [shock] Or wait... maybe not. Is the owner a Filipino? I'm originally from Cebu, I was born there. My family used to go back to cebu every summer and Christmas time. |
He's not Filipino, he's Australian, but he lives in the Philippines now. [yes]

Jelly come to Washington [lol] The weather is almost identical and no midges :D
So there's no worry of it getting too hot, just bring an umbrella ;) |
Scotland has the midges, remember, not England :)
You're telling a Brit to bring an umbrella...I have one in every handbag you know. :P |
Manila is not a place I want to go to >.< My dad is there, and he gets blood from his nose due to heat all the time. It may be safe, but not a beautiful place to be >.<
Since everyone is calling jelly, me too will [ninja] Jelly, come to Sri Lanka or Japan, either [ninja] Sri Lanka has a beautiful weather, not very hot and not very cool~ [heart] |
Sri Lanka looks like an amazing place, one that I think a lot of people don't really think about that much. Maybe I'm more aware of it because of all the fighting in the '80s, it's not in the public eye anywhere near as much now. I think the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami was the last time it hit the news here in a big way.
I wonder why they changed the name of the island, but the tea is still called Ceylon. [ninja] |
The fighting stopped recently :D And it is indeed a nice place, though it's not as nearly developed as any developed country XD
The tsunami >.< The textbooks, teachers, exams, they keep talking about this to no end and in my view, I guess they would for the next 1500 years to come [lol] I guess it is because Ceylon tea is famous, and though there were many names like Serendib and Taprobane, the tea and such things were exported the most during the time Sri Lanka was named Ceylon (I think it was by the British, they were the people who started tea) and they've kept it ever since, lest in case people don't recognize the new name [lol] |
Okay, no that things says that there 4 people from S.A [headdesk]
|
I was born in Russia. I immigrated to America when I was three years old. I haven't visited in years. I have a friend who is willing to let me stay with him. I need to raise money first. I'm a full time student and I don't work now.
