Have any of you ever found yourself in a situation where you had just accepted a job because you hadn't had any other calls for interviews and shortly after you started this job you received a call from a possibly better job?
I've got an interview with Best Buy. Just an interview but considering i've never been able to get even an interview with them before i'm super excited. That and it's a job that might actually involve something i'm certified in and want to get more experience in. I'm CompTIA A+ certified. Don't know what that is? Don't worry...most people don't lol.
I currently work at Whataburger and started less than two weeks ago.
The hours are unpredictable despite them saying they allow flexible schedules.
I told them when i started that i wanted to work anywhere betweeen 9 am-6pm
Started thursday worked 2pm-9pm friday 8pm-4am saturday 8pm-4am sunday 3pm-10pm and monday 3pm-10pm
Next schedule 3pm-11pm -.- all week. New schedule comes out soon. I asked for 9-5.
But still they constantly ask you to stay an hour later. That doesn't compute with me since i don't have a vehicle and have to get rides from people.
Is it irresponsible to quit a job shortly after starting it if you get a better offer? Or is it just looking out for what's best for you?

Well, while it doesn't look great on a job application, no one can blame you for wanting to switch to Best Buy. I would recommend you go through with the Best Buy interview as soon as possible. If you are offered the job during the interview or a few days later, then simply quit Whataburger.
I wouldn't say it's a case of irresponsibility, in all honesty, though in other cases it might be so. I'd say you're actually handling the situation very responsibly. You were responsible enough to apply for and accept a job at a fast food restaurant because you didn't HAVE a job and knew you should take what you could get. The timing's pretty awful, but you finally have a shot at Best Buy, which is not only a job you really want, it's also a job that matches your certifications. I'd imagine it also pays better and has much more stable hours.
I think you should take the job interview, and if you get the job, then leave Whataburger for it. Explain to your manager what happened, and tell him you hope there's no hard feelings. I doubt he or she would have any.

I think you could definitely frame your moving to another job as "you couldn't accommodate my needs scheduling-wise, so I have decided to leave for an employer who is giving me better/more consistent hours." It's a completely legitimate reason for switching.
I've been in a similar situation--I started working as a waitress at a Thai restaurant and got a call back about an internship I thought was cancelled. I was hired on the spot, and I went to the restaurant to quit and it turned out they were planning on firing me anyway (I wasn't learning quick enough apparently... but working only three days a week, how could I?) So for me it just happened to work out.

It doesn't hurt to try, so you should attend the interiew. Even if you don't get it, you have your current job to fall back on. At the end of the day you're earning, some people aren't lucky enough to even get that.

I wouldn't quit unless you have the other job for sure. It's hard to find jobs. Put in a two week notice and you'll be fine. "Fast food" places have a hard time with scheduling because people don't show up for work a lot of the time or are late or call off because they just don't care. Its a "fast food" place, no one wants to call that a career so I see nothing wrong with quitting and moving onto something that better suits you.

If you get the job, just put in that two weeks notice and take the new one. Agreed that the scheduling hours is sufficient enough of a reason to quit. Just don't get any references from them and if you can, avoid putting it on paper. Jumping jobs so quickly on paper for a better one shows little loyalty to the organisation.

Deffinately go to the Best buy job interview, I know from spending a few years at a fast food restaurant in college that they will probably keep giving you the crappy hours, because that is where they need people. I know this might be rude but they probably shouldn't have hired you since your availability doesn't match what they need. Anyways, whataburger is not a great place to work and best buy is so much better, i hope you good luck with the job market.

Like everyone here has been saying, that's a totally legit reason to quit. Good luck at Best Buy.

Went to the first interview. Found out from the interviewer i woudln't initially be working Geek Squad but if i do good where they put me it could turn into that. Going to a second interview today.
It would be so awesome to get it.

Interview went well. Don't know if i'll actually get the job as there were quite a few applicants but i went through with both interviews which was all i really could do. It won't be the end of the world if i don't hear back or whatever i guess. But i really hope to hear back from them.
