Do you have a strange name?
My parents owned a dog. A small short-haired chihuahua named Gizmo. It had exceptionally large ears and was a nervous thing, constantly shivering. I was born underweight, a very small newborn I was told. So, my parents had the audacity to name me, shocker, Gizmo.
I'm an Italian American living in the Southwest. My last name is Moretti. When I introduce myself as Gizmo Moretti, people laugh because they don't think I'm serious. Gizmo? Really? C'mon, what's your real name? But indeed, my real name is, was, and still is, Gizmo. Do you, Menewsha community, have a strange real name? Or do you know anyone with a strange real name? |
Gizmo's an awesome name. :) You should be proud.
I know a girl named Sawyer if that counts. (Like Tom Sawyer, Twain's fictional character.) That and one of my friend's initials spell out BJ... I'll leave you to get the joke there. |
I'm not sure about it. I mean, I like the name and all, since I've got to live with it, but being named after a dog is a bit... I don't know.
Sure it counts! Like I said, you or anyone you know with a strange or not quite right name. Sawyer for a girl is indeed strange. Hah, well... If they go by BJ, more power to them. I wouldn't be able to. |
I love the name Sawyer but I like weird names. :P
Before my aunt remarried her last name was "Dix". I had no idea what her husband's name was until after they were married when other family members were making jokes about it. |
My real name is pretty normal thankfully. Not going to share it though.
My niece is apparently naming her daughter who isn't quite born yet my sister's (her mother's) name backwards. I personally find it very weird and honestly quite stupid but whatever. |
I once knew a woman named "Abc." She pronounced it "Oh-boss-ee." I still, to this day, can not figure that one out exactly. XD
|
My name is Ben. I have no clue where it originated from, but I do know it isn't very common.

I live on a campus with people that have the strangest names, but that's because people from my school are from all over the place. But there is one girl in my class named Atocha (pronounced like Ah-toe-cha), I heard it and said it to myself and was all "Now that's a rather interesting name" lol. But I think it's a pretty cool name :3
I don't have a really odd name though '-3-, my parents just named me after a now dead singer lawl |
My name is just Lucy. My dad's name is Marlin which I think is a badass name, so I've always felt kind of ripped off, being called Lucy. But I do have Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds going for me.
|
I love the name Lucy. I'm not sure why, however, I like the name so much. Although, Laila, I remember in school there was a... Korean-based kid I believe. His first name was Hayou (pronounced hey-you) and his last name was Boe (pronounced boy) Basically, his name was hey you, boy.
|
My name isn't strange, sadly. I can't stand it though. I was named after a character in a soap opera, Melinda Sue. My nickname is Mindi, though, and almost everybody calls me that anymore lol. Lucky for me, I guess!
|
Sort of? My name is uncommon, but not strange. Cara. It means Beloved, or Friend, but the way my parents meant it to be spelled (My Oma intervened, thank goodness) was Chara, which means joy. It's still pronounced Car-ah, but it would have been a bit more confusing.
|
My mother-in-law had a Shi Tzu named Gizmo >_>;;
My name isn't odd, but people really get thrown off when I tell them my "real name." I go by Dani. I can't tell you how many friends of mine were shocked to find out my full name is "Danielle." Seriously. |
Oh, oh, oh. Keyori reminded me of someone I know with a weird name! I know a girl named "Danelle." When I first met her, I am ashamed to say I asked her to tell me her name ten times. I was like: WTFFFFF? She has a Filipino accent, so that, plus this weird "Danielle" sounding name really threw me the frick off. I'm still slightly embarrassed about that.
Also, I have to agree. I adore the name Sawyer, and have thought of naming a future female child that. And yeah, the fact that you were named after a dog is worse than the name itself. |
My name's quite common, so nothing there. My cousin named her kid Telly, though. Cute kid. I can't remember why she chose that name, though. Poor kid's gonna get laughed at, though, if she's ever in the UK.
|
Well Alissandra isn't strange. But I did know this girl name Yaritza, but it's pronounced Jadi. And I also know a girl name Gayatri.
|
my real name is actually Tegan as well, which to people from other countries it may sound kind of odd XD its somewhat common over here though
I was named after Tegan, a character from Doctor Who :gonk: |
I used to know a cat named Gizmo, he was named after the gremlin. I'd say that would be a pretty shit-hot name to have. C:
My name is unique, so much so that I'm the only person with my first and last name on Facebook. C: My name in general isnt uncommon, but the way I spell it is. Every other person with my name spells it Tanya, but I'm Tania. C: Sawyer is a lovely name. I fell in love with it after LOST, Josh Holloway... |
I saw "Cats don't dance" and the main character's name is Sawyer. Loved it ever since. I call my sister's dog "Gizmo" because he looks like Gizmo from Gremlins and he also has moods where he'll growl at my sister's other dog and snap at him. I refer to it as "Gremling".
It throws people off when I say Rei is spelled with a "ei" and not a "ay" or "aye". I get it misspelled a lot. |
My name is supposed to be Titus(Tye-tus), but my mother always pronounced it "Tee-das" (she's Japanese, in case you were wondering). So when I came to the US I started spelling it with a "d" instead. Imagine my surprise when later that year the game Final Fantasy X came out, the main protagonist sharing my name. The sad (and kind of funny) part is, I have people asking me if I was named after the character. I was 19 when the game came out.
Then there's my daughter, who was born in early 2002. We named her Kyrie, an alternate spelling for Kairi, an old french name meaning "melody". Later that year, Kingdom hearts came out in with the main female protagonist having the same name! I'm just glad that it didn't happen with my son too, that would have just been too creepy. |
When I was young, many centuries ago, my grandfather had a friend named Guillermo. I could never pronounce that though, so I used to call him Gizmo.
My name is very common. Sometimes too common for my liking. |

so it's not weird... IT TOOK ME years to learn to spel my middle name D: I knew someone named Rainie, someone named Geoffrey, someone named jon XD |
Danielle is quite a common name where I live.
|
My name's pretty normal, but a friend of mine knows someone named Buffalo Herd.
|
There was this boy at my school named Yu F*k. (dead serious.) I felt bad for him. My ninth grade English teacher has a daughter named Tally and she recently got married to a guy whose last name is Ho so her name is now Tally Ho, which I think is pretty cool. My friend has a dog named Huckleberry, or just Huck.
I've picked out names for my future kids (like...seven years from now) which are Jipsie Marie and Hayden Jaymes. My name isn't strange nor is it spelled weird, but it gets misspelled often. My name is Mary Claire but it often gets spelled as Marie Claire, Marie Clair, Marie Clare, Marie Clar, Mary Clair, Mary Clare, Mary-Claire (no hyphen), Meri Claire, Meri Clair, etc. It drives me crazy. |
