How easily startled are you?
Howdy doo, Menewsha!
My question for you all is "What does it take to startle you?" Are you one of those people who is un-phased by pop scares, loud noises, and everything inbetween? Or are you spooked by even the smallest of disturbances? One of the only things that freaks me out is sudden noises or movement, and unfortunately all of my friends know this. My roommates have a harmonica hidden that they'll bring out any time I'm winning in a game (Or if they just feel like messing with me) and it rustles the shit out of my jimmies every time I hear that BLEEET out of nowhere. |
I'm not startled easily, but my brother is, so it's really amusing.
I guess it depends if the room you're in is very quiet so if something goes off then obviously lots of people get startled. |
I get started SO easily, it's ridiculous, and kind of sad. My boyfriend will wait around a corner and jump out at me. Sometimes zombie movies, when there's no zombies, but suddenly there's a huge noise then something suddenly swoops out from nowhere.:o
Reminds me of when I was at camp... We found some hockey masks and some rope, so I hid behind a door and waited for this girl who was being mean to me. Jumped out and started limbering toward her. Imagine how THAT went! |
Practically nothing ever startles me.
It's kind of strange, actually; even when it's something extremely loud and totally unexpected, it never really phases me. I think it kind of annoys people, actually. xD |
Movies rarely startle me because I'm prepared to see something scary. In real life, however, it doesn't take much. My grandfather likes to walk up slowly and just stand behind me all serial killer like. He thinks it's funny, but it's freaking creepy. D; Loud noises are also a no-no.

I don't jump or startle at much. If it's deafening loud I'll jump a bit, but anything else that'd normally scare or startle someone just makes me glance around or makes my ears involuntarily twitch. Something like an animal that's listening to specific noises I suppose.
My friends do tend to try to scare or startle me by leaping out of darkness whenever I go by, but it doesn't really work. I suppose I've never been the kind to scare, necessarily, at sudden or unexpected sounds or sights. |
Recently my jumpiness has decreased by a LOT, thank Thor!
I got really jumpy after playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent. All it would take to make me jump in fear was my dad, standing in the kitchen, grabbing a drink. Just because somewhere deep down in that silly brain of me, I was still playing the game. xD Now that I've finished it and never played any custom stories, that jumpiness is more or less gone. I can still jump from sudden loud noises such as car horns and my co-worker's (he has Tourettes) sudden outbursts. |
Honestly it depends on what I am doing.
If I am reading a book, or really into something, it actually can take someone AWHILE to even get my attention much less startle me. |
LOL Oh god the stories I could tell you guys. When my best friend was living with me she used to find it hilarious that I would spook so easily and she didn't have to do anything. One time I woke up early and was heading to the bathroom. She NEVER gets up that early so when I came out and shes standing at the door looking like death warmed over I jump a mile high and clutch at my heart then start smacking her for scaring me. She just looks confused for a minute before cracking up. "I was just standing here" She says. *eye roll*

I am hypersensitive, so when I'm not focused on something or really really tired, I jump at practically anything, loud/sudden noises especially. -w-; I seriously have to sleep with a fan running in the background, otherwise I'll hear every little noise in the house. My friends used to tease me about it, but now I think they know I don't find it funny, and it's not cool. >w>

I am so easily startled it's depressing. I tend to squeak and squeal when I'm scared by something sudden. Movement, sounds, hallucinations... Heck, even when someone gently tries to warm me that they're there, I panic and have to calm my heart down! I feel bad for the other people who have to deal with it, because they do try to be good about warning me, but they feel bad when it does the opposite! I'm very skittish.

I think I am in the middle: Some things startle me, where as other things don't when you think that they should. The toaster is one of the worst though! I know it about a minute or two till it shoots out, but it never fails to make me jump and screech a bit. Although when people try to sneak up on me, it never works. Even if I don't hear them coming up on me, I still remain calm.
Seeing anything small and dark out of the corner of my eye, or even straight on makes me jump and want to run away, only because it makes me think there is a spider near by. Sometimes there is, and sometimes there isn't. But it never fails to make my heart skip and almost pass out. I hate spiders so much. Even though I am older and living on my own now, I am still scared to be home alone. So I am jumpy at about any sound or even any movement from outside the windows and back door. >< All of it makes me feel like someone is going to smash through and shoot me and steel the first thing that looks most valuable. I can't think of anything else that startles me.... strange.. or well. Good question!! |
I think I'm pretty average. People jumping out from behind walls and such doesn't scare me too much, but sudden loud noises can, as well as the toaster. My mom's pretty jumpy, so I usually hide in the closet outside the bathroom and scare her.
The other day I was running, and I was coming up behind these two guys walking that were probably in their late teens and just had that "I think I'm tough" look. Well, I don't know how because I stomp pretty badly, but when I was right behind them, the one screamed like a girl and jumped in the air. His friend was amused hahah it really was quite funny. |
I get really startled when someone opens the door in front of me suddenly or right when I'm about to. I also get startled when I suddenly see a person suddenly pops out from a corner in the hallway. I don't like it. Dx
|
I get scared easily but because of this I have become very observant of my surroundings but I still get scared when people catch me when I'm not as observant.
|
I have major anxiety, so in real life it doesn't take much to get me freaked out. I'm always on edge. But I watch so many horror movies and none of them have ever really made me scared.
Insidious did startle me, though. |
I think I'm easily startled.
I blame Minecraft for the majority of it, that game causes me to jump so many times. |
I'm not easily startled by loud noises. However, if someone touches me when I don't expect it I always jump.
|
I'm very easily startled. Can't watch horror movies to save my life hahah
It's a wonder I can play some video games. |
My partner. He's obese but has this amazing ability to walk up without a sound and stand beside me. I've screamed on many occasions when he appears beside me. I'm a very tiny person and make a loud ruckus no matter what I do.
|
Whenever I'm listening to music, I freak out when people suddenly "appear" because I can't hear them.
|
Oh, don't forget magically phasing cats. Made a friend of mine fall down the stairs and break her leg once. [illgetu]
|
I'm usually not that easily startled however if I'm really paying attention to something, like reading a book then I'm more vulnerable to being startled.
|
Anything to nothing.
I have very sensitive hearing, so really it depends if I can determine the location of the noise/object before it startles me. Loud things however startle me so long as I'm not a zombie. |
Usually I'm not easy to startle. It all depends on how thoroughly I'm spacing out at the moment. Generally I have an ear cocked to hear someone sneaking up on me, or if I'm in a public space with tons of people around me I just expect someone to sneak up on me, so don't get freaked when people do.
It's when I'm so spaced out that I completely forget where I am that someone can startle me. That happens a few times a year at most. |
