It really depends on the person I guess. Dreads only look nice if you keep them clean and tidy, but you also have to have the style and face to match, otherwise it just looks out of place. I quite like braids, I've had them before :)

Braids. It takes a great deal of time and skill to maintain dreads so they look nice and like dead rats on your head. I've seen some very nice dreads and with friends who've kept them said they had to learn basic crocheting to keep them. Along with special shampoos and what not. For the people who just twist and mat their hair into dreads it looks gross.

I like dreads, but a lot of people don't put in all the time they need to, so they can take care of their dreads properly. I like well maintained dreads.
If people don't have the time to take care of their dreads then they should just stick with braids.

Dreads are alright if you take care of them and not let them become one massive dread. The candy striped dreads using wool in with your own hair look really good.

I do like the braids that are done in patterns and straight back ones if they don't give you a facelift because they've been done that tight that just doesn't look very nice.

"They don't look like coctail sausages anymore!" that has to be the best thing I've heard anyone say about when they stated growing their dreads longer.

On myself totally NEITHER!
In general though I think I will say braids.

Your dreads look good on you Minku, I didn't even know that look was considered dreads. In that case I apologize if this sounds raciest, that's certainly NOT how I intend it but from my observation black people do the nicest looking dreads. Sometimes it even looks like a pattern was purposely made on the top of the head(and heck maybe it is purposeful). I often look at that kind style like Minku's and wonder how the heck it's accomplished; it's obvious just looking at it that a lot goes into it, that they really care how it looks.

Dreads however can also appear to merely be rats nests from not brushing your hair in years and that kind of bugs me even just to look at. A good example of what I mean is on this crazy reality show I like called 'Wife Swap'. There was once a family that all had such messy dreads it looked like they were bums(which they kind of almost were, but that's beside the point). I could not help spending most of the time watching them thinking of a brush going through their hair. The daughters of the family she switched wives with liked her hair though.
Personally I found it unattractive although it looked worse on her young children.

Braids are far less complicated and the only way they can really be messy is if you sleep in them.

I love both, but I am more fond of dreads, especially the ones that are ratty and messy and natural. I have two and a half feet of hair that I braid on occasion but usually just tie up in a bun due to laziness. One day I might choose to go the neglect route entirely, retire my hairbrush (that admittedly I only use once or twice a week) and just let my hair do whatever the hell it naturally will. Because fuck beauty standards and fuck needless hygeine practices. I have more important shit to care about.
