Whoa... You just blew my mind!

It's about time again for another short-lived GD topic. [lol]

So have you ever learned something that completely blew your mind? A few days ago I came across this tidbit on the internet: for all of my life, I was opening bananas the wrong way. [lol]

It's such a simple, basic thing that I can't believe I never realized it before. I bought some bananas the next day to try it myself. It's so much easier!

So how about you? Have you ever learned something that caught you by surprise?

jellysundae 11-09-2012 12:33 AM

Oh wow! I want to eat a banana now, just so I can open it up that way [:O]

Ferra 11-09-2012 12:49 AM

It's kind of addictive. [lol] I've almost run out of bananas because I keep wanting to open them. It helps that they're delicious (especially if you add Nutella [drool]).

Vox 11-09-2012 01:51 AM

Whoa... I don't even like bananas but now I want to try this.

Codette 11-09-2012 02:08 AM

......I've always opened banana's like that.... I'm the only person I know that does, but I've always done it.....

OH! This morning I learned theres a snake in Japan that only eats snails... that blew my mind.

Bearzy 11-09-2012 02:22 AM

I've always opened my bananas like that too... Guess I'm just in touch with my ancestral roots.

Draciolus 11-09-2012 02:30 AM

I never have trouble opening my bananas from the other end...and if I do, well there is always a pocket knife with me.

Teach the people who haven't learned yet! [lol]

Oh, really? That doesn't surprise me too much, but that's cool.

Nice! I think it often depends on what your family does. Everyone in my family opens them from the other end. It's not actually that difficult to open them that way, usually, but it's less messy and more effortless to do it the "right" way.

I came across this on the internet quite some time ago, but it has blown the mind of everyone I have ever told it to.

So, most people who have ever driven a car have probably at some point or another forgotten what side their gas tank is on when pulling into a station.

Well you see that gas pump by the gas gauge? The side of the gas pump with the handle is the side that your gas tank is always on.

Ferra 11-09-2012 04:19 AM

@ElysiumFate: Ahhh, that makes sense. I think I've heard that once before. I haven't driven a car in over two years though so it doesn't affect me much. [sweat]

Hurray for public transportation? [lol]

Sora 11-09-2012 05:18 AM

Oh my god. The next time we buy bananas, I'm trying this. xD Oh my god. I hope my parents don't know of this trick so I can surprise them.

pinkii 11-09-2012 05:53 AM

Apparently, cotton + super glue = FIRE [wha]

Don't try this at home, kids.

Pa-chinko 11-09-2012 08:59 AM

o___O I'm just mind blown I've been doing it the right way this whole time and the weird looks I get were not justified.
I come from the tropical jungles of Thailand so... bananas. xD

Shizuku-chan 11-09-2012 12:27 PM

Mind blown from those 2 videos on top.
I never knew THAT was the right way to open a banana
*now craving for one*

Dystopia 11-09-2012 12:29 PM

... /rubs forehead.

So let me get this straight. We can make computers and cars, but we can't open bananas the right way.

QTF! [lol]

That superglue thing is nifty! It's a shame that you need so much, because that could be super useful if you didn't!

Knerd 11-09-2012 03:17 PM

That's how I open a banana. [yes] It's so much easier and you don't have to pull off any of those little fiber strings!

This isn't actually true. Snopes has a page about it. It's just one of those things that's correct 50% of the time, so lots of people see the coincidence. [yes]

Although I do wish that car manufacturers would start putting this much thought into the dashboard. It makes so much sense!

Chen 11-10-2012 02:16 AM

I went to try the banana thing right away, have heaps at home anyway, totally awesome!

It's actually been true for every car I've driven, and I've driven cars with gas tanks on either side. I must be lucky. [lol]

I was told that the little arrow on the dash near the gas gauge tells you what side the thing was on, though I'm not sure how true that bit of information is XP

ElysiumFate 11-11-2012 05:14 AM

The arrow definitely tells you, some cars don't have arrows, though.

LaVida 11-11-2012 05:57 AM

oh...my....gosh....! wow! totally going to try that later!

jellysundae 11-13-2012 10:10 PM

JChanOfTheCan 11-13-2012 10:12 PM

jellysundae 11-13-2012 10:13 PM

I peel mine that way now [blush]
