Those two things you mentioned fit in with the dream of Christmas; which is sparkly and coloured in red, gold and green.

I forget who I heard say it last year, but someone said that Christmas is performance art, it's created. I think they're right -- although you can't make the weather disappear.

Not being raised with any religion, my favorite holidays have always been The Fourth of July. It would be New Year's if it wasn't in the middle of winter. New Years is exceptionally delicious because you have a great big world party followed by a lazy day. Fourth of July almost always has great weather, and parades and a great feeling of community. AND they both have fireworks, which are just the best.

One is formal, and one couldn't have more casual dress. I think they compliment each other. [yes]

It's true Christmas is very commercial. It is in fact believed that Jesus wasn't even born on December 25th but in Spring and like easter contains it's gimmicks completely unrelated to it's supposed true meaning. Still there are values buried in there that one can choose to acknowledge such as giving and family. I still love it despite, and always will.

I like what you say about New Year being a global party, that is so very true. It's basically the only thing that's the same for everyone on the planet, isn't it. I think all of us feel that hope and positivity at the start of a new year. Because beginnings are full of hope.

Not quite everyone, Chinese New Year is in February and celebrated the entire month. But essentially yeah, it's the only holiday everyone on the planet celebrates at one time and one way or another. Very good point.
