Self-Soothing

What do you do to calm yourself down? Do you use mantras or maybe external means?

I saw this on tumblr a few days ago, and I have to agree with the comments I saw with it, it is a very focused, relaxing task

Personally, I love what this video does for my psyche. It's my mood altering means of choice:

(well, the first 13 mins, 20 secs of it anyway. Is there anyway to download a youtube video?)

I use incense. c:

I figured incense would be something that would come up. I don't use it often enough, though I love it. Too much having my dad telling me I couldn't burn it, it gave him a headache when I was younger, I think. What scents do you prefer?

Usually jasmine or orange citrus. The store right by me though sells root beer incense and it's quite lovely. XD

I listen to music, mainly bossa nova or just simply nature music like the sound of falling rain or the sea.
I focus on my breathing to slow it down, it really helps.
If I'm in my bedroom, I do the child's pose of yoga.

To download a video, you can try and visit this site. You can also choose if you want to download it in MP3 format, etc. I do hope that website isn't blocked in your country.

I found this amazing bossa nova track on Youtube years ago! It was a version of Stairway to Heaven, I think! A Zeppelin song, anyway, and it was just lovely. I wish I could remember the band's name, I had zero success trying to find it again. [cry]

Sestina 04-18-2014 05:33 PM

Aww, I'm just new to bossa nova. I only started listening to it last year and I only listened to one singer, I'm now just slowly spreading out my listening ear in bossa nova. Sorry, I can't help you with that Jelly. [:(] I know how you feel, I've had a tune I couldn't forget back in the 90s but I never knew what song it was. I did end up finding out it was a song in a Sailor Moon episode. Hope you'll be able to find that song again! [:)]

You can experience ASMR? That's so cool, I wish I could.
I figure the video I posted is the closest I can get to it, but it probably engages different parts of the brain...

I physically exhaust my body. Afterwards I don't have the energy to be rash, to bicker, or to complain. For me it's about taking a lousy habit (temper, very violent outbreaks, etc) and turning it into something productive.

I used to burn incenses, like cinnamon and jasmine.
Or I would just burn some natural smelling candles, like pine needles or cotton.
Now that I have a pet bird, I try to avoid heavy perfumes.
I always feel better after a hot shower. Its my go-to thing when I need to relax.

I have a bad habit of sitting and thinking about things that anger or upset me.
I let it simmer until I either depress myself or snap at someone.
Its really important for me to have a way to relax and come to peace with whatever disturbed me.
Sometimes I draw, sometimes I wash it away with a long shower,
and sometimes I even let myself just cry it out, if its really bothering me.
Sometimes I just need to purge through a good long cry and I feel completely refreshed.
I'll try anything else before I let myself be sad, though xD
