Happy Pride Everyone.
World Pride is 4 hours away from me. Teleportation has never been more necessary. So - although Pride does have its drawbacks (re: consumerism, pink washing, etc...) It is pretty great to see Toronto hosting World Pride, and all the amazing speakers and events going on. I wish I could be there! Sadly, my cities own Pride will be no where near as awesome. So - everyone... Happy Pride! Anyone going? Ever been to one? Thoughts? :D |
Oh, that's right, it's summertime, isn't it? I'd almost forgotten entirely.
I've been, and yeah, it had a few tacky elements here and there, but it was alright, overall. I went with my girlfriend at the time, and she got to see a bunch of old friends, and I got to hit a bunch of freebie tables and gorge myself on food. This was a while back, and I live in a different state now. Where I live currently we do Southern Decadence, which is actually a pretty big thing. The whole city goes gay for days on end, and all the homophobes (with the exception of the pseudo-christians who come with bullhorns and condemn everyone) all stay home and it's actually a pretty good time all around, once you get into it. Last time I participated we had the bullhorn condemners, and I was dressed as Salome, if I recall. I began doing my dance of the seven veils and had a tremendously fun time making all the people laugh as the guy screamed at me that I was a whore doomed for the pits of hell. I told him I'd already been and was back to recruit his flock, and the police had to come and make them all go away, they got so disruptive. After that, everyone just went back to partying, and it was cool. |
