So, I recently watched a couple episodes of Arthur with my 5-year-old cousin, and as I watched more and more of the show I realized that television shows geared towards children are pretty weird. Arthur (for those of you who don't know, it was about a bunch of anthropomorphic animals in fourth grade and their various hijinks) was my favorite show back when I was her age, and watching it again at my current age was kind of nostalgic. I want to find out what Mene's favorite TV shows were when they were younger, and what they think of them now! c:

My favorite show growing up was Clarissa Explains It All.

I've revisited the program a few times over the years.
Which is fancy talk for being at Mom's and catching it on cable.

I still think that's how cool kids dress. Maybe not popular kids, but kids-who-are-cool. Clarissa wasn't popular, or particularly athletic, she was herself. And she had amazing parents who let her be herself, but, pushed her to be better when she slacked off or made bad decisions. When I was little, I just wanted to be that cool. Her room was awesome, her clothes were amazing and she designed video games! Man. I still want to be that cool.

ALL THAT was amazing!! Ten times funnier than SNL for what is Kenan without Kel? (I seem to recall hearing Kel is a mess now)

All That was definitely fantastic. I've only watched a few episodes, but they were great.

Codename: Kids Next Door was one of my favorites to watch.

It's obviously one of many but it's the one I remember the most.

I too was a fan of Arthur as a child but probably my biggest fetish was Rugrats, Doug and Hey Arnold back in the days when Nickolodeon cartoons were quality.

@Panella Goldeater I remember Clarissa Explains It All. That was the first time I'd ever seen the name Sean with that spelling (In the credits, the actor who portrayed Clarissa's best friend Sam) and I had no idea it was pronounced 'Shawn' until the 8th grade I believe which was a pretty long time after the program stopped airing I think.

Oh man my brother loved that show so I eventually got into it too. We also had a lot of Ben 10 collector's items.

I didn't know it was pronounced "Shawn" until I was older, either! That's too, too funny. You also mentioned Doug and it got me thinking that show kind of paralleled Arthur. It's not a perfect match or anything. Mostly just me remembering Bebe and Muffy and that's just a rich girl archtype but if I really try and push it I could make a case for Arthur's bunny buddy being Skeeter. A further stretch with DW and Roger both being bullies who are also weirdly friends with everyone. There's more differences than similarities, really. Just something I got to thinking about.

Interesting notion. I do see what you mean.
In addition DW also seems to have a similar snootiness for her brother as Doug's older sister Judy.

That's where it fell apart for me: the sibling situation. Arthur had a younger sister. There's other stuff, I'm sure.

You didn't like Arthur having a younger sister or you didn't like him having a younger sister who acted like an older sister?

Whoops. Just meant that's where the comparisons between Doug and Arthur fell apart. Though truthfully his little sis did bug me. She was supposed to though. Arthur didn't have a crush/obsession did he? Too young, I hope, to have a Patti Mayonnaise.

No, from what I can remember Arthur did not have a love interest, as you said this was smart since he's too young.

I am disappointed in ALL of you. How has no one remembered Recess, yet? Oh my goooosh I watched one of the movies on Netflix a while back. And are we strictly talking TV shows? Because I feel like Disney would clog the crap out of this conversation. Lilo and Stitch? Awesome. Lilo and Stitch the TV show? Not so much.

I didn't mention Recess because it wasn't my very favorite but it was goooooood.
Remember when they all found out Spinelli was an Ashley?

I watched Arthur, Codename: kids next door, and Recess I have the (two?) movies on VHS! My favorites though were Pokémon and Yu Gi Oh! There was another show that my brothers and I loved about kids doing science experiments, but I can't remember the name for the life of me. I'm sure there's more, but Pokemon, Yu gi oh and the third that I can't remember the name of were my favorites! Oh shoot, and the one with the kids that had super powers.....Oh! Shoulin showdown I think it was called. That one was great!

Edit: Google says the name was ZOOM, and that sounds familiar, so I think that's it

I loved ZOOM too, I'd watch it after school. My class actually took a trip to the set of ZOOM for a field trip in 2nd grade. It was pretty cool to 7-year-old me.

I used to watch Zoom alot. Recess is good too.

There's a ton of shows that I now need to watch again when I get the chance.

Ooh tricky and hard to narrow it done. I grew up with things like Count Duckula, Thundercats (original =P), She-Ra etc that sort of thing.
I did really love a kids dungeon adventure show called Knightmare and was so giddy when Challenge repeated it last year ^_~

I used to watch some of the very old ones, like She-Ra, He-Man, and things like that when I was very young. Rugrats, Recess, and Doug came out when I was getting a little older.

Thundercats! I loved that!

I used to watch Thunderbirds and Stingray on a Saturday morning when I was little. Looking back, I can see that I didn't get what was going on at all, lol. Years later I finally put two and two together and realised that International Rescue was Thunderbirds, and I felt like an idiot.
