Eyeglass abuse

Hello!
So I wear eyeglasses, I have to because I am almost legally blind. (Which sucks when it's raining >.<) But I have had them for a long time, and at first I was so careful to make sure I put them in my case, then that I put my case somewhere safe. Now... Well... I don't give two rat's asses. Maybe not even one. I don't know. I don't think about rat's asses that much.
That's beyond the point though. What about you? Do you wear glasses or contact lenses? Do you love yours or are you a little careless like I am?

[lol] Not relevant as you say, but made me laugh. xD

I bought a cute case for my glasses, because the one from the optitians was kinda fugly, but I never use it xD I'm not a careless person though, the specs I had before these were 13 years old before I replaced them and apart from having picked up 2 or 3 minor scratches on the lenses they were fine.

For someone that wears their glasses all the time I'd have thought it was pretty hard to do something stupid to them, because they're on your face most of the time. If I'm in bed they're on my bedside table, they're generally still there if I'm in the bathroom in the morning, or on the side of the sink maybe. So I can't really do dumb things like sit on them. I'm only likely to do that if I have a bath later in the day and I put them on the bed when I take them off, so I try really hard not to put them there ><

I actually like my glasses, I think they make me look cool. I've tried contacts but they reallly really dry my eyes out, even the like "super aqua" versions. I can only wear them for about 6 hours before I have to take them off and then when I put my glasses back on I have this "whoa dizzy" thing going on for like an hour. So yeah, no contacts for me. I used to only wear them when swimming and stuff like that but it's expensive to get measured for them and buy them when you only use them like 2-3 times a year so I gave up on that.

As for my glasses, I do my best to take care of them. When I go to bed I put them on the dresser or somewhere where they won't get hurt. I wash them ever day and sometimes multiple times per day since they're always getting dusky/smudgy/dirty. I've only broken them twice. The first time was because I was laying on the floor and took them off then when I wanted to get up I couldn't find them (brown glasses on a brown carpet = hard to find when you have horrible eyesight). I ended up putting my knee in them. Fortunately the glasses place pretended it was a defect in the glasses and covered them under warranty. The other time was when I took them off to wash my face. I put them on the back of the toilet and they ended up falling off and getting scratched on a pipe. V_V

I have a nice case for them, or had. My daughter yoinked mine and I never got around to buying another one. XD She's a bit more clumsy than I am so it's for the best. I wear contacts for special occasions, I find them to annoying for everyday use. I'm considering buying laser eye surgery for us both when she's about to head for college. I think it would be an interesting bonding experience.

jellysundae 10-03-2014 09:04 PM

Laser eye surgery has to be redone after so many years, doesn't it?

ElysiumFate 10-03-2014 09:21 PM

I have glasses, and have since I was in 3rd grade. I mostly wear contacts now unless I'm really in an f-it kind of mood and am too busy to bother with the contacts.

I admit I'm not as nice to my glasses as I could be, but usually I don't have any scratches on them and such. This one time I biffed it and face planted into the sidewalk as a kid and scratched up my spectacles pretty badly. My cat also took a chunk out of the lenses on my first pair of glasses as a kid (she was a kitten) because she was angry at me and bit them...while they were on my face.

Nowadays my issue is that I don't keep my glasses very clean. I literally wear them for 20 minutes a day, usually. I'm blind as a bat, but like I said: contacts. So I'm only wearing them when I get up and right before I go to sleep. The only time they get cleaned is if I decide to wear them for the day when I'm having an f-it day.

>.> I don't wear glasses, but I have a fake pair I wear when I go out and meet people. They're totally adorable and I love how they fit my face shape. Anything, fashion statement, and I take pretty good care of them. But then, since I don't need them, nor do I need to wear them all the time, there's really no reason for me to get tired of them and become careless.

My daughter however just got glasses, and trying to get her to not abuse them is becoming a real pain in the ass. I just spent $400 on these suckers (high impact resistant and super cute frames, same shape as my fake ones, because we have the same face. haha) While she does have the ability to get one replacement pair free, I'd rather not need to get them so soon after buying them!) But they wind up on the floor when she takes them off at night, and she scoots them around her desk at school... 9 year olds. oi.

StrangeShank 10-03-2014 10:54 PM

I used to put them wherever but now that I'm poor I keep them safely in a case... *nodnod* (I've always been broke but now I'm broke and legally an adult)

Mageling 10-03-2014 11:48 PM

I've worn glasses since I was ten or so. I never bother with a case for them because the only time I'm not wearing them is when I'm asleep or when I'm showering, and they're right on the nightstand/sink when I'm not wearing them. The only time I put them into any sort of case is when I wear my sunglasses in the car, because my sunglasses live in a case.

I won't wear contacts. I hate the idea of sticking something into my eyes on purpose, and I'm terrified that they'll get stuck somehow and I won't be able to get them out again after putting them in. So for now I just wear awesome glasses. though they need cleaning like whoa. i'm amazed i can see out of them.

StrangeShank 10-04-2014 12:44 AM

Technically I wear contacts too.. Putting things in my eyeballs is fun.. But I can't imagine not putting contacts into their case.. That would just be... Unhygienic... And they'd get stiff and crinkly and might break!!

Being a broke adult sucks even more than it did as a kid, totally know that feeling!

I'm definitely not nice to my glasses. They dont break (at least not yet) but theyre about 4 years old now, the arms are warped, and the screws keep falling out. Maybe I just have shitty frames haha. [mrgreen]

The Wandering Poet 10-04-2014 02:12 AM

I am basically legally blind without glasses so I don't take them off except for bed so when I go to bed I place them in the same spot. why you ask? cause its really hard to find a small incredibly blurry object.

ElysiumFate 10-04-2014 03:19 AM

Haha, I feel your pain, Poet. Sometimes mine fall on the ground accidentally and I have to pull a Velma from Scooby Doo.

The Wandering Poet 10-04-2014 03:24 AM

Yeah I'm that way if it falls on the ground. searching all over beside my bed like a blind man

ElysiumFate 10-04-2014 03:39 AM

Mhmm. And then there's the times you realize you're half-way to blind like when you're taking a shower and can't find the soap or read the shampoo bottles.

The Wandering Poet 10-04-2014 03:59 AM

The shampoo I use is always in the same spot for me. All I need is the general blurry shape and I'm good.
I also wear my glasses in the shower until I'm ready for shampoo and stuff. so I'm not so blind.

Cat Eye 10-04-2014 05:14 AM

Glasses.

I don't have insurance and so am screwed if they get broken. I'll need to pay about 80 dollars for the eye doctor to give me a prescription and all...and then the glasses themselves. I'd just have to be blind.

So I wear them, they go in the case when I sleep.

Wonderlands 10-04-2014 07:29 AM

Well, Ive been meaning to wear glasses for two years now. I dont, and it's terrible. Ive been feeling my eyes getting worse recently so Im slowly trying to wear them but still I absolutely hate wearing them. I regret the style terribly, haha. Ive been on the hunt to find a new, nicer set of frames. Not only do they look bad on me but they slide down my face constantly so I have to do the whole anime push up glasses things more than I should have to, as much as I'd like to. >.>

So to answer the sort of topic, Im good to my glasses since they never leave the case.

The Wandering Poet 10-04-2014 08:25 AM

This rage comic is so true when I lose my glasses XD

Not anymore Jelly they now insert a lense when they do it so you don't have to have it redone.

Bearzy 10-04-2014 10:59 AM

Oh man, I just got glasses, but only for reading/using the computer because my eyesight is fine... unless I'm focussing on something. Then I get a headache.
Anyway, I've not even had these puppies a week and I keep getting up from the computer to do something and forgetting that except the computer is blurry while I'm wearing them. Fun times. I'm basically counting down the days until I put them down somewhere and lose them at this point.

jellysundae 10-04-2014 03:22 PM

Time for glasses wearers to wear cooler versions of those cords that hang your glasses around your neck? Those should no longer be the sole provence of spinsters and librarians! [illgetu]

I used to wear contact lenses, I wore them for 7 years. I went back to glasses because I needed some sun protection for my eyes as I was going on holiday to Lanzarote, and the optitian said glasses with reactive lenses would be made faster than new contacts. Plus I didn't really relish the idea of finding some sunglasses that I liked, actually offered UV protection, and didn't require a mortgage to pay for them...

The joy of having contacts and glasses at the same time is that moment when you put your glasses on and can't understand why you can't see a damn thing, then realise it's because you already have your contacts in...[headdesk]

Those of you who demoan not being able to find your glasses, try finding a contact lense that's pinged onto the floor when you've taken it out. [gonk]

Amane 10-04-2014 04:18 PM

I'm scared to have contacts.

I'm very careful with my glasses. I forget how, but once I broke them right down the center. Just like the stereotypical nerds in the TV shows used to have bandaged up! >.< Another time I broke one of the lens holes with my harpy nails while I was cleaning them. When I was younger, I think once I scratched a lens.

Alexander J Luthor 10-04-2014 07:18 PM

The only time I ever use a case is if I'm traveling.

Amane 10-04-2014 08:06 PM

I used a case when I was a little one. I had cool ones, but I've closed my finger in them before. OUCHIE‼
