How old am I again?

So it's pretty normal, especially when you've just had a birthday, to get your age a bit wrong. "I'm 18... no, wait, that's right!! I'm 19 now!!" Happens all the time. Or you'll just otherwise say your age wrong and then immediately catch yourself.

That didn't happen to me though.

I just wrote a post in which I gave my age as 23 with complete confidence. Then... no, wait a minute... am I 24? Wait...

Yeah, I sat here for a good two minutes legitimately unable to remember how old I am. I ended up having to click through to my profile (where my age is displayed) to remember for sure. Yeah, I didn't forget for a second and then remember on my own - I had to be told how old I was. I'm not sure if it's because I'm insanely tired or just because I'm getting to be an adult - where everything is made up and the age doesn't matter.

I'm 23, for the record.

[headdesk]

Tell me about your most hardcore - slightly scary - brainfarts. Also tell me to go the hell to bed. [lol]

I once forgot how to wrap dumplings while I was wrapping dumplings....weirdest thing ever...the incident was so strange, I remember that at the time I'd done one half of one after having wrapped many others and then paused because I couldn't remember how to fold the folds and what should have been relatively routine hand/finger movements.

I never 'remembered' how to wrap dumplings I had to relearn it immediately after that strange random moment of forgetting.

I've done that with my age before. I'm all...I'm 23. Wait....am I? And I got it right, but then I decide to second guess myself for a minute or two. And like, look at someone else to make sure I got it right.
But I suffer from a lot of brain farts.

~LONGCAT~ 02-20-2015 07:49 PM

I've done that with my age before. Mostly I do it for my brother's age. Like my little brother turned 21 last year. D: I still can't get over that. I still think he's in high school, not a semester away from graduating college with an engineering degree.

Kat Dakuu 02-20-2015 07:59 PM

haha. I've got my younger brother who just turned 21 down. Easy and significant date to remember. But I end up having to count up from my age to get my older brother because I'm like...is he really 25?!

linapoo 02-20-2015 10:16 PM

Ugh yes, all the time. 8( It's quite scary how the years go by, but at the same time, it still feels like you're a year younger than you should be. Haha...

zyne 02-20-2015 10:46 PM

i forget my age a lot too @[email protected] sometimes i swear it's 2011

in terms of funny things i've forgotten.. i tend to lose words
my favourite is forgetting the word for "skin" in relation to apple skin so i just called it the carcass :p

Cherry Who? 02-21-2015 01:24 AM

Glad I'm not the only one who seriously forgets my own age. [lol]

Ling - Oh god, losing muscle memory like that is just the worst! I don't know if I've ever had it that bad, but I've certainly had moments of "wait... how do I hold a pen?????" "What do I do with my arms when I walk???" and just generally forget all those simple motions you don't think much about doing.

~LONGCAT~ 02-21-2015 01:51 AM

Not quite forgetting muscle memory but sometimes when I'm sitting for a long period of time my brain forgets which arm is right/left and I'll move the wrong one.

Chexala 02-21-2015 04:48 AM

I once told a school therapist that I was 18, and then paused and said, "No, wait, I'm 20." He totally wanted to make a thing out of it, like it was a super important Freudian slip. [gonk] Luckily, we were filling out paperwork and by the time we got around to some actual conversation, he'd forgotten about it.

River Song 02-21-2015 06:45 AM

That doesn't really happen to me. Haha
Other people get my age wrong all the time, but I've noticed people think I'm legal now.
Most people guess my age being 20 or 21. When I was 20 a lot of people thought I was 13.
I'm 23 now and I once had a relative think I was still in high school. >.> I graduated a while ago.

I forget my age all the time around my birthday. But then after a couple of months I start remembering it better. :P

I think the worst brain farts I've had is when I'm driving. I'm still a pretty new driver, but I've lived in the same house my entire life, so I've driven with my parents, friends, family, down the same roads for years. I know these roads like the back of my hand, but when I'm the one driving,mI forget where I am and I always miss my turns or I have to be told where I'm going and how to get there because otherwise I have no clue what's going on its almost like the roads change when I'm in the driver's seat!

[sweat] I was born in 2000 yet I still can't answer that question without doubting myself. "How old are you?"
"Thir---fourteen...[oops]".

zeapear 02-22-2015 06:52 AM

Oh man, stuff like this happens to me a lot. Aside from the usual (like forgetting my age), at various points I have forgotten long term friends' (like, friends for over two years) names mid conversation, not to mention forgetting my own name on a few occasions when prompted...

But talking age specifically? I remember one time a few years ago I was browsing a bookstore and one of the workers saw me looking and casually asked how old I was so he could recommend books for me. The thing is, though, rather than just saying the wrong age then being like 'woops! haha, actually im x,' I just stared at him, trying to remember how old I was for, like, a full minute. You could just see the life draining from his eyes; it was horrible. Eventually my mother had to step in. I would have been around 14 at the time. [lol]

Another extremely memorable moment, again from a few years ago, would be when I woke up one morning and for a few minutes as I scrambled to wake up fully I forgot who I was. Like, I was panicking because I couldn't remember my age, name, sex... etc. That was fun. [:P]

But yeah, I think that's all pretty normal. Doesn't make it any less funny/embarrassing when it happens, though. [lol]

I still have to mentally perform the 'put your right hand in' part of that dance to know which is right and left, like almost all the time [XD]

And the only thing I can really remember is that I was born in '96, and I have to calculate the years most of the time to know my present age [lol] and there's always me forgetting that it's 2015, my brain is still stuck in 2013 [illgetu]

Aimless.Wanderer 02-22-2015 05:42 PM

I've had the random brainfarts when I can't remember how to spell a certain word (i.e exceptional, because, or any other word) because it's either too late or I just can't seem to type. It seems to happen to me more when I am staying up too late to finish a paper. Or when I'm half asleep writing a story and I can't seem to concentrate. I've been doing that a lot with my age too, I just turned 18 in November but I still sometimes tell people I'm 17 [sweat]

I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO IS STILL STUCK IN 2013!! It seems like my biological clock is always two year behind or something [stare]

Cardinal Biggles 02-24-2015 01:14 AM

I usually know how old I am. My mom was once off on my age by three years though.

Bartuc 02-24-2015 01:53 AM

I never remember my age. I have to stop and think about it quite often. [rofl] I think its just because I stopped caring after 21. Now that I am 27 I have to stop and think about it. There is no real reason to keep track of your age anymore.

Elirona 02-24-2015 02:04 PM

Honestly, "age" is a human concept. [yes]

though, I totally do have issues remembering how old I am. Have to constantly remind myself that i'm supposed to be 20 years old, and not afraid of driving or adult responsibilities, but here we are.

ElysiumFate 02-25-2015 03:44 AM

The other day somebody asked me how old I was and I almost said I was 18 before I stuttered and realized I was actually 22. o.o Lolz, I dunno why I get stuck on that age sometimes.

I was just like: "holy shit, I'm old, now." Even though I know I'm not that old yet. XP

Elirona 02-25-2015 01:54 PM

You know how when you go on naughty websites and it asks you if you're 18+? I would be like "haha, of course I'm 18+ ;)" and then I would be like "oh wait I am actually 18+ now"

Cherry Who? 02-25-2015 10:12 PM

Ahahaha. [lol]

Yeah, there have definitely been a couple moments where I nearly gave my age as 18 or 19. I really don't feel like 23. [lol] Well... at least until I talk to someone who's actually 18 or 19. Then, yeah, I'm 23. [:|]

Chexala 02-25-2015 10:55 PM

Haha, Cherry, I get that too. I don't feel like much of an adult at 26, but then I see all the high school students in town and think, yep, I'm definitely not a teenager anymore.

ElysiumFate 02-26-2015 05:27 AM

Omg, high school students make me feel so old now, lol.

Even the seniors, you talk to one, or see them walking through a mall or something, and you realize you were so not grown up then. XP Makes me wonder what I'll think of my 22-year-old self in a few years.

Cherry Who? 02-27-2015 03:58 AM

Ugh, yeah! Eventually you get old enough that you recognize the pattern and stop deluding yourself into thinking "wow, I bet I'll always be the exact same way I am right now - super cool! [cool]" And then sometimes you can just feel yourself doing something you know you'll cringe at in a few years... but you just can't stop yourself. [lol]

Like, "wow, I sure am gonna hate this CD in a few years... BETTER PUMP IT UP AND ENJOY IT WHILE I CAN!"
