Almost time for Halloween!
Or, well, sort of. It's still early September. But Halloween is our next event and a popular holiday, so let's talk Halloween!
What are you going as? (I'm undecided.) Do you have any plans? (I do not, though you may hear quite a bit about my dream Halloween party.) What's your ideal Halloween - what would be your costume? What would you want to do? (...again, you may hear a lot about my answer.) And for the Mene side of things - are you looking forward to the event? [afrod_harhar] And just a bonus - anything you really get tired of on Halloween? Rant about how to make it better! |
Aha! I found you! heehee :3
I can't go as anything because I have nowhere to go. Halloween is just now catching on over here in Sweden. It's cute, though, what they say instead of "Trick or treat!" is "Godis eller boo!" (candy or boo!) and if you don't have anything for them, they go "BOO!" like to scare you, haha. I love it :3 I used to go in costume to school and to work (when I had a fun boss that allowed it), and my favorite became cosplaying as Abby from NCIS. I've done that for two different years, and it's such fun :) And for Mene things, I think I'm going to try to run a thread and see how that goes. I found I have a ton of Halloween EIs from 2008 or 2009, I'm not sure which and haven't bothered looking it up, and so it'd be fun to give them as page prizes. |
One of my favorite parts of Halloween is how adorable the kids always are. Like I said in the event hangout, I used to have a haunted house every year that was pretty well known around town, and it was considered a rite of passage to be able to go through it without a parent.
...then there were the preteen/young teen boys who were absolute little shits, "haha, this is so stupid, this isn't scary!" trying to be tough...we pulled out all the stops with jump scares on them. One time we got one so badly with fog and a dropping giant spider that he dropped his candy bag and ran. He didn't come back for his candy - whether for fear or shame, I do not know. |
ROFL XD Oh that poor kid, but it sounds like he got what he had coming to him, hahaha... wow that is amazing!
One time I went through a haunted maze with some friends who knew some of the costumed volunteers, and so every so often we'd come across one that would call out their names all spooky or actually jump out and grab them. They weren't supposed to touch the people going through, but you know, friends, haha. It was a lot of fun. Oh, another Halloween tradition I keep is I always watch Young Frankenstein. That started for me at university and I've been doing it faithfully for many years now. I can't handle real horror films because my stupid subconscious likes to use whatever I see later when I sleep in vivid nightmares, ugh :| So I like the goofy spoof :D It's still fitting for the holiday, I think, lol. |
I looove Halloween!
It's the only time you can play dress-up and not be called a nutcase! I usually do some kinda creepy face makeup...to answer the door to trick or treaters. But, where I live, now...in the mountains...there are no children nearby, and since we live right off the highway, kids don't venture into our neck of the woods. I care for my adult, disabled daughter 24/7....or I would volunteer at a local haunted house....but finding someone to stay with my daughter would cost me a fortune....so, I just stay home with her. When we lived in the city, we would put a life-sized monster man on our porch... One year we attached a string to the guy's arm so we could pull it from inside the house...making the monster look like he was reaching out... We had kids screaming and running from our porch....only to go get their friends to come get scared, too! Lol! So, the next year, we put monster man on the porch....but the BF dressed up and sat next to monster man.....kids didn't know he was a real person until he stood up and said something.... Oh! The screams!! One kid dropped his bag and ran to the street where his mom.was waiting, laughing her head off! What fun! Then, the following year, the BF and our housemate laid in the yard, under all the raked up leaves....they would wait till a group of kids would come by, then they would jump up and yell! More screaming!! ....I miss those days! This year, I think I will decorate, anyway....cuz I have my 2 & 1/2 year old granddaughter living with me...I think she will enjoy helping! Maybe we will have a running car by Halloween and we can go trick or treating....maybe.... My only complaint about Halloween is that it is only 1 day a year! Lol! And...as for the upcoming Mene event....Of COURSE I'm looking forward to that! I hope I have time to participate more than I did during the last event. So....what is your favorite Halloween candy? Mine would have to be the Smarties....I will nearly pickle my tongue with sugar eating waaay to many of those little sugary candies! Lol! |
Oh my gosh that is amazing, Inzane, haha :D
My favorite Halloween candy is candy corn :) I eat it until I feel sick, lol. |
I've been a vampire for the past few years because I've got all the makeup and such so it's a money saver plus I do love vampires.
My friends want to go to a local comic shop that is participating in a Halloweenfest event in which comic shops give our free comics in a trick-or-treat fashion. If this thing is what it advertises than I'm excited to be able to pick up some Buffy and Angel comics. |
Fall is my favorite season so I should be enjoying all this Halloween talk that I see on the internet (and I'm not going to lie, I have been craving the spooky stories sites I frequent break out around the holiday) but at the same time, I want to savor the season and not feel rushed through it, or have it whittled down to one thing. Maybe I'd feel better if November was still treated like an autumn month and not pre-christmas. Things have changed so much since I was a kid. Christmas was a much milder thing. I miss that. And it's not like it's for a good reason. It's just been a capitalist push for more consumer $$$. Really quite sad.

Well I said that and then yesterday I bought a Halloween decoration [lol]
|
Well, it's difficult to tell what the hell season it is here in California with the way the weather is but how early holidays are acknowledged doesn't much matter regardless as far as I'm concerned.
|
I haven't got any Halloween plans as of right now, but my girlfriend's family usually throws this huge Halloween costume party, so we'll probably end up going to that. She gets really excited this time of year - she's already started planning what costumes we'll wear!
|
I would love to dress up as Snow White from Once Upon a Time, I'm getting my hair cut like Ginnifer on Saturday!! [eager]
Only plans we have are decorating the yard/house, giving out candy and maybe taking the boys out to go trick or treating. Oldest boy has decided he's too old so I dunno yet. My ideal Halloween.. hmm.. i'd say just getting to take the boys trick or treating without any disasters happening LOL! And no creepers at our door! One year we had some freaky dude dressed as a zombie construction worker come to the door wanting candy. it was weird. I cannot wait for the Mene event!! I always love event time! [heart] Halloween the most because it is my Meneversary! I don't know if I get tired of anything other than kids who come to the door without costumes. Around here the high school kids go out still. It's pretty silly. I'd rather see the cute little ones! |
I love Halloween way more than I probably should...
My costume this year is going to be a Stitch Kigurumi I found one on Etsy for 1/2 off until the 11th! So I'm going to buy it. :D My ideal Halloween would be me with friends and having a Halloween party where we play cheesy Halloween games, watching horror movies and eat a ton of organic treats! Lots of fun, halloween music would be awesome as well as awesome costumes. I had a pretty fun Halloween last year I spent it at my favorite comic book store and they had a Halloween party! This year I'm spending Halloween in North Dakota at a comic con! |
Oh my goodness, Ava I am so jealous!
I swear, Halloween makes me miss the US more than the 4th of July does... is that weird? |
Do they not celebrate Halloween in (Sweden? Switzerland? I can't remember where you are.. Sorry! So, I guess, insert country here)?
I know they don't celebrate Halloween in Hungary. :C |
Sweden, your first guess was correct, haha.
It's kind of like a new fad that some teenagers are getting into, or something? Yeah, Halloween is incredibly new in Sweden and most people don't know what to make of it. They're very much into All Saint's Day on Nov 1st and go put candles on loved ones' graves, and so they think Halloween just does not mesh well with that and it makes no sense to them. So there's a little bit going on, and some awareness of it, but I don't get trick-or-treaters coming to my door and you don't see decorations up anywhere. No jack-o-lanterns or scarecrows or ghosts or skeletons... nothing :| I has a sad. |
Aww. That's too bad. :(
We should have a Mene Halloween party! Though I'm sure there will be a Halloween event. :o |
I love Halloween! I don't know what I am dressing up in yet, I am sure I will have to work it since it's on the weekend this year.
I am currently working on a Halloween based character, she's a skeleton kitty, about 2 and a half foot long and half furred. working on her body form right now. if you are interested in seeing my progress on her check on my blog =3 anyways that's about all I have planned for now. ^^ |

Darkness - Kind of? There's no real celebration other than just going to church and putting candles on the graves, it's all rather somber and respectful. That's why they think the revelry of Halloween does not mesh well. My husband's grandmother and I have had this discussion every year, I think, haha.
|
I LOVE Halloween! I'm taking this season to make charms to sell. Little pumpkins/jack o' lanterns, little witch hats, ghosts, the like. There's a fall festival at my work, and this year they are hosting a chili cookoff. I'm excited to do this. Although, it's been six years since I've made chili, lol. |

I'm American BTW, but I've seen plenty of movies and took 3 years of Spanish in high school. There is another version of where Halloween was derived, from a celebration from early centuries called All Hallow's Eve on which day is believed that the dead can rise. I believe Day of the Dead has a similar belief, hence the offerings at graves but I am not entirely sure there. |
Unfortunately I don't live in the nicest of neighborhoods and there are houses down the street that have parties pretty much every weekend. Last Halloween, I wasn't home because of college but my mom told me that someone attacked our house and caused damage on some wood near our front door, so my plan this year is to just stay home and make sure my family is safe.
|
What am I going to do for Halloween? I'm going to wait for it to pass over so we can get through Thanksgiving and get on to winter already. I'm so done with hot weather and storms. And the BUGS. My gods!

Amane is going to dress up as Ava for Halloween this year...
