Suicide Awareness Day~ To show your support for people who have committed suicide, contemplated it or self harmed, write "love" on your wrist or wear something yellow.

Do i write in between the scars or over them :/

RoadToGallifrey 09-10-2012 04:06 PM

It's up to you. Everyone does it differently :) My scars are halfway up my arms, so I never had that problem of deciding xD

I guess im lucky the screen is too bright, it bleaches out everything :)

ClockReject 09-10-2012 05:12 PM

WHY IS EVERYONE SO PRETTY!?
oh gosh.

Larue 09-10-2012 06:49 PM

I did some art for the occasion, but I don't really plan on participating further. I've never been big on awareness "days" because I feel like they're just trendy things that lack passion for most people participating. I've seen girls write love on their arms when I've witnessed them tell someone to go kill themselves on another occasion.

/end rant

RoadToGallifrey 09-10-2012 06:56 PM

I normally don't participate in awareness days either, just this one has some importance to me, so I joined in.

Keo 09-10-2012 07:28 PM

its not something that happens in the UK, but I wanted to show my support in here for those going through this, or recovering from this and those who are there to support other people.

Clock: everyone is beautiful in their own way its just confidence :)

Larue 09-10-2012 07:39 PM

Everyone's a little different, I suppose. I've been a major self harmer in the past, and it usually seems almost patronizing to me. But if it helps anyone, that's what matters.

Keo 09-10-2012 07:48 PM

All the people in TWLOHA teeshirts irritate me a little. Because wearing a tee doesn't really help.
it makes it all rather commercial and SH is such a private act it's not like raising money and awareness for something like breast cancer which affects many women (and some men)

Also, I'm yet to see the charity have any affect on those who do hurt.

But yeah like I said it's all quite american really and I can't speak fopr them because I live in england but people in england just raise an eyebrow. The people who get help for SH are the careless ones who don't hide it properly.

Some of which seem to brag and boast their scars l;ike they are some badge of hour.

Suicide Awareness Day is worldwide. :)

Also on the subject of scars, they're nothing to be ashamed of. If you've recovered and you've stopped cutting, why shouldn't you be proud of how far you've come and how much you've changed for the better?

Keo 09-10-2012 08:06 PM

"world wide" is an intention, but I didn't know it was happening and there is nothing on my FB from anyone else I haven't seen any posters about it. :p it didn't reachj the uk and if it did it's very poorly advertised.

I don't think anyone fully recovers from SH. the thoughts are still there.

But can we move on from this topic and share pictures of cute and happy things? ^-^ No need to be all sad and whatnot.

RoadToGallifrey 09-10-2012 09:04 PM

I'm in the UK and people knew about it...

Sure, self harm is a touchy subject for most anyway. I'll also agree to disagree on the recovery side of things

lunanuova 09-10-2012 09:48 PM

Was it today? I didn't know about it being today, but I know of it. I just never seem to remember the actual dates or whatnot! It's nice to see pictures showing support.

RoadToGallifrey 09-10-2012 09:49 PM

Yeah it was today :) I was so happy seeing a lot of people take part <3

ElysiumFate 09-11-2012 01:56 AM

Darn, I would've worn yellow today had I remembered what day it was.

On another note, I bleached a blonde streak in my hair that I'll take pictures of soon. :)

Draciolus 09-11-2012 06:15 AM

I only found out about suicide awareness day as I was sitting down after work for a drink with the crew...about 1hour ago. Turns out, I'm not wearing the colour specified...and that while intoxicated my spelling goes down the drain...and that nit is actually in Firefox's dictionary...neat.

Still no picture from my vacation, turns out the only picture of me needs to be scanned then uploaded....and I need free time to do that...13.5hour days do NOT allow for free time. -.-

Keo 09-11-2012 08:20 AM

:( So much stuff to get done in the next week :'(
But omgomgomg I saw gaga :D
i wish I had pictures of THAT, but we weren't allowed cameras and i didn't wan tto be refused entry because of a camera, but so many people got away with them :'(

ElysiumFate 09-11-2012 09:17 PM

How on earth could they try to forbid cameras around Lady Gaga? They didn't even do that with Obama.

That's a long work day, Drac. I hope you get some relaxation time every now and then. [:O]

Larue 09-11-2012 09:34 PM

I think most of America thinks Gaga is more important than Obama. :P

Uhm
Yeah Gaga > Obama.
I'm british, I live in devon, England :D I traveled to london for the gaga event.
its common to not be allowed cameras at gigs.

ElysiumFate 09-11-2012 11:24 PM

I think more Americans would go see Obama than Gaga if given the choice. If Gaga was singing, though, Obama would lose. [lol]

Larue 09-12-2012 02:31 AM

I'll have to agree to disagree, Ely, haha.
I would choose Obama personally, but I think the amount of people who idolize Gaga outweigh the people who idolize Obama, or even care about politics. Maybe I've just been encountering a lot of people who hate politics lately, though.
