My real name is Wenonah. It's a family name as I am the 5th with this name in the last 5 generations. The name is native american, even though my family is not. My "family history" says that the name entered the family due to an ancestor who stayed with a native american couple who had a daughter named Wenonah and then when he returned home and had a daughter he named her Wenonah. Wenonah means eldest daughter or princess of the stars. Apparently the name was considered cursed at one point and that any girl who was named Wenonah would die an early death. My great grandmother disproved that when she lived to 96 in the 1800's. sorry that was probably a longer ramble than needed.

Though it pisses me off a bit how people get finicky with the spelling. "Oh, your name is spelt E-R-I-C-A? I'd rather spell it E-R-I-K-A, it's more unique." Yes, SO unique that everybody is changing the C to a K! I hardly see ANYBODY with a name like mine nowadays... and besides, if you change the spelling, you ALSO change the ethnicity.

It's too long. And if people try to think of a nick name, things get horrible. One of my teachers at school keeps calling me 'Chany', which I wouldn't mind at all if only that wasn't the name my dad used to call me alot - and when a teacher says it, it just feels weird since it's more of a name that only my family used.
My mom used to call me 'Tahn' or 'Tahntahn' when I was little, I don't know why or how that translates into 'Chantelle'.

I don't know, I just know of all these people with great names like "Jade, Vann, Pete" and having a longer name can be a pain. ._. It's not a pain verbally, but just the fact that you can't cut it up and make jokes with it. And yes people, that is a bad thing. :sarcasm:

(so, my avatar's named partially after me, and partially after the song by the queers.)

carrie's derivative of charles, which means "manly," so the female equivalent would be "womanly" or "feminine." janelle is derivative of jane, which is hebrew for "the lord is gracious." my parents weren't thinking of the meanings when they named me, though. they just wanted something that flows well together and isn't dreadful common.

Anyway, my real life name is Molly.
I'm content with my name. When I was a kid, I often fantasized about changing it, because I read a lot of fantasy and encountered a lot of cool names that I wanted. (It's a really good thing I never did change it back then though, or now it would be something really silly.) I've gotten used to being Molly though, so I can hardly imagine being anything else.

I like to tack extra names onto my name from time to time though, sort of unofficial middle names if you will. That way they can fade in and out of my life as they will. :D

Yeah same here, but my grandma ordered a bunch of custom-made pencils with my name on them (my name is Juliet, btw). Very nice of her indeed!
