My name is Amalie. It's a German name meaning 'Hard-working' or 'industrious'. It doesn't describe me well at all!

I was supposed to be called David, since my parents were sure I would be a boy.

Phareas 03-23-2007 07:35 AM

iMani 03-23-2007 08:15 AM

My name is Amanda, hence the nickname Mani, or ManiYani.
I was named after my great grandmother. She was Flora Amanda yadda yadda. I just know my name was in there somewhere. XD

Heres something I looked up on my name:
"Meaning: She who must be loved
Origin: Latin
Additional Info:A name created from the Latin gerundive of the verb 'amo' (I love)." Here

Also got:
"Created in the 17th century by the playwright Colley Cibber, who based it on Latin amanda meaning "lovable"." Here

Oo I'm lovable! Looove love love!

Ancasta 03-23-2007 08:53 AM

Legion, for we are many. *loom!*

Ok, seriously now, my name isn't even Christian. I was named after an ancient prophet who always saw true, but was never believed. They even (according to some legends) saw their own death and the end of their people, but were unable to prevent it.

Despite the sheer angst of the story behind it, I like my name.

Coli 03-23-2007 09:42 AM

My real name is Kat, or Kathryn. It's something greekish for 'purity'

Condom 03-23-2007 10:05 AM

Jitsumi1221 03-23-2007 10:23 AM

my name is Michelle (Hebrew) for "who is like God?"

Keeyats 03-23-2007 10:26 AM

  • Daniel, which is shortened to Dan. But my birth certificate says Daniel.

I don't mind it, but it seems that no one knows the name Daniel exists, for some reason, so they always say Danielle. Or, another common thing is that when I say my full name is Daniel, they spell it D-A-N-I-E-L-L-E. It can get irritating. Doesn't anyone read the bible anymore ?

( I'm not religious, but I know that Daniel is a character in the bible, or at least biblical stories )

Daniel means " God is my judge " or something along the lines of that.

Especially since theres a whole Book of Daniel.
That and well the first thing I was going to say was that I've came across several Daniels in my life. Just classmates primarily.
But then that somehow came into my head. Even though I've hardly read the bible.

Miss Charlaine 03-23-2007 10:46 AM

Andrea :o

As far as I know, it's just a name. XD

Jac 03-23-2007 10:53 AM

My name is Jacqueline, which apparantly means "supplanter" in French and Hebrew. My nickname is Jac, a variant of the masculine "Jack" which means "God is gracious" and originates from Hebrew.

Hmm. It used to be a nickname for "John." Interesting. Very interesting, to me.

I looked up your name, and apparantly it's unisex. It is given to boys in Italy, but in English it is considered feminine. It means man or warrior and has Greek origins. :D

Claha 03-23-2007 11:07 AM

Real name? Claha. . . It's funny how many people believe that.

PMS the Demonic Pirate 03-23-2007 12:54 PM

My real name is Morgan. I was named after Morgan La(Le?) Fae (Faye? Fay?) from the King Arthur stuff.

Sapphyre800 03-23-2007 01:20 PM

My name is Janelle. It was this really unique name as I was growing up, and my mom thought of the name from a combination of my grandmother and great grandmothers names: Jean and Ella. Everyone's name in my entire family begins with a J, so it was natural for her to do that. Well now theres younger people with my name and I don't feel special anymore T_T

Pink 03-23-2007 01:45 PM

Michelle.

I'm pretty sure it means, "Who is like God", and I know it's the female version of Michael. Which is my younger brothers name.

I almost got named Christy, but on the way to the hospital...my Dad heard Michelle by the Beatles.

Good save Dad.
