Cake.

So it was my brother's birthday a week ago and we got him a chocolate cake in celebration. It wasn't very big, but it wasn't palm-sized either. I hated it, likely because it made my mouth very dry and the frosting taste like medicine. And I hate baked cakes in general, because they crumble when you so much as tap them.

I think I only like ice cream cake. I have a liking for ice cream because it's almost kind of sorta not really like milk and it's generally liquidy, so I'm a-okay with it since I don't need three or four glasses of milk just to wash it down.

Do you like cake? Favorite flavor?

Verucca 04-01-2007 12:19 PM

Someone else who hates cake??? Hoorah!!

tigerangel 04-01-2007 12:20 PM

I love baking cakes.
Devil's food with white, whipped-type frosting is my very favorite.
I make cupcakes more often then full-size cakes though.
The little paper lines keep them fresher than a cake would be after you slice it.
I recently found a recipe for cupcake-sized Boston Cream cakes.
I think I'll make those sometime soon.

I like some kinds of cake.
I'm making a Pound Cake in a few minutes, as we have a bunch of eggs that need to be used.
I only really like Pound Cake when it's just out of the oven. Once it goes cold I don't really care for it that much.

My favourite cake is one my grandmother used to make, it's a Sri Lankan recipe and called a Love Cake. Her recipe used something rediculous like 36 eggs though so I really can't be bothered to spend that much time cracking eggs and seperating the yolks o.o It was so yummy though, it had rose water and tons of cashews in it and was just the nicest thing ever <3 They'd also last for ages as they were to rich to eat much of at a time.

When I'm lazy I quite like the Betty Crocker - Devil's Food Cake mixes. They're so quick and easy to make and taste quite decent...especially with the Betty Crocker frosting <3

Razzle 04-01-2007 12:26 PM

Indeed!
We should throw a celebration for not - cake - lovers and not have any real cake there~ :B
Awesome stuff.

Ooh, cupcakes are neat.
Except when you have to peel the paper off and the paper is practically embedded into the cupcake. :(
Not to mention if there's frosting there, which leads to stickier fingersss. Bah.

Ooh, pound cake.
I used to always think that it meant the cake was made out of cement. P:
Love Cake is an interesting name. :0 It sounds delicious. That's a lot of eggs, though~ I wonder what the batter taste like. XD
I think a lot of people use Betty Crocker mix. :o
Just for convenience and generally 'hey i made this at home' card they can play sometimes.

Verucca 04-01-2007 12:26 PM

Okey...I DO like strawberry shortcake...but that isn't very...cakey...you know?

Glammy 04-01-2007 12:27 PM

  • I'm generally torn on my opinion of cake.

    A well made, slightly moist (but not so much as it's gooey) cake is nice on occation, but most people make pretty ew cake these days.
    that and I can't eat pretty much any dairy these days D: so 90% of cakes are out the window for me.

    I'm really more of a peacan pie gal.

    Or Cobblers. I <3 a nice peach cobbler.

    I think I really just like attempting to make freakishly coloured cakes personally.
    I've almost perfected a bright pink plain cake, with chocolate flavored turquiose iceing/frosting/stuff. I just can't get the 'muddy-ness' out of my turquiose ;___;

    But all that is besides the point >__>;

Verucca 04-01-2007 12:28 PM

Just give me some creme brulee instead. ^_^

Caroline 04-01-2007 12:33 PM

I just had amazing cake about an hour ago, actually.
It was white cake with fresh whipped cream as frosting between the three layers and powdered sugar on top. Earlier today I had seen the bakery on tv too.

Razzle 04-01-2007 12:35 PM

Nyum. Strawberries. <3
I like strawberry shortcakes except when the strawberries are goopy and sticky. And I guess how you make it depends on whether or not you can actually view it as a cake.

Most people just use a cake mix, I think. Rather than making it all from scratch all the time. That's a pity, dairy is a rainbow of assorted goods goodness. :(
For some reason, I enjoy looking at the baked goods rather than eating them. XD Which is really weird because I stare at my plate and my family stares at me. P:
It's fun to make cakes all weeird colored. Muddy icing is a pain, though. :/

Oh, creme brulee. Delicious stuff.

And that sounds fantastic. :O Must have been pretty.

Celeone 04-01-2007 12:35 PM

I hate cake! It always makes me feel sick.

stilettolover 04-01-2007 12:36 PM

I love cake, but I can't eat it all the time. ^^; I like chocolate cake. :Q Cheesecake=good. Chocolate + strawberries = wonderful.

Glammy 04-01-2007 12:44 PM

  • ;o;

    you people and your strawberry + chocolate cakes make me sad.

    the two things in the world I'm allergic to - high dairy content and strawberries (in ever way, shape and form).

    and now I've got a serious craving for them both :fail:

Razzle 04-01-2007 12:47 PM

Blech. Seriously? That must make cake such an awful experience for you.

Chocolate ice cream cake is a favorite of mine. :0 Sort of kind of not really.
Chocolate and strawberries, though, wins hands down if I was ever asked what kind of regular not - ice cream cake I like best.

And so sorry, Glammy! :(
Never meant to give you craaavings for things you're allergic to. Which sounds kind of weird, but a lot of people like the taste of things they're allergic to. XD

stilettolover 04-01-2007 12:54 PM

Awww!! Well Vanilla cake + peach mousse is also yummy. ^^;

Glammy 04-01-2007 12:58 PM

  • haaa~ don't worry I'm constantly craving stuff I know I can't eat (particularly this time of night), and the worst is strawberry flavored icecream and milk...the best or uh.
    wost. of both worlds.

    I've only given in twice.
    and. well. headache a-go-go.

    stilettolover
    I've never heared of Vanilla cake + peach mousse @[email protected];
    sounds...
    interestingly niiiice~

Razzle 04-01-2007 01:18 PM

XD
Well, it must have been well worth it.
Or not.

Sounds like your bakerys are just crappy. I LOVE the cakes that certain stores make here in town. Except for the Wal-Mart one...That is way way way to sweet. You can barely eat it.

But, there's this chain of stores, Price Chopper and Reebles. I know there are other stores out there with that name, but a local family has owned these in town for years upon years.

Anyway! Their bakerys are amazing. This one women would bake the cakes for all three stores and she did the best job ever. When she retired you could tell someone else was making the cakes, but she came back and trained her up a bit more and they still take amazing.

Their always to big though, I need like a mini personal cake made. XD I work at one of the stores now, I keep trying to get them to cut one in half so I don't waste half a cake, cause I can't eat a full one by myself. XD

Keeyats 04-01-2007 02:41 PM

  • I'm not a big fan of frosting to begin with, and since I went Vegan, I haven't gone out of my way to make my own frosting.

    Cakes made with baking soda and such are not the most delicious, or the lightest... but hey, they work for birthdays.

    So, I'm not a big fan of cake either ( it's been a while since I've had cake with eggs, milk, butter, and the like ).

KilalaBlue 04-01-2007 02:43 PM

two words. CHEESE CAKE!!!!!

My absolute favorite kind of cake EVER! I have for like, ever birthday. Sadly it is very rare that I ever get it disincluding my birthday (which is coming up in like 2 weeks *squee*) So yea. I never get sick of it ^^

Doofus Soda 04-01-2007 02:43 PM

  • I looooove ice cream cakes.
    *Drools*

Lucky55 04-01-2007 03:17 PM

i love cake; i do not know how you cannot like the baked cakes; really i think it also depends on who makes them; because i know some people who are really bad at making cakes; but my mom who could make a profession out of it, i LOVE her cakes; also she always puts on really cool designs on them; me i am a fan of ice cream cakes; but they are kinda expensive; but over all favorite would have to be chocolate cake; my mouth is watering just thinking about it; good lord last night at one i was with some friends hanging out playing cards in the lounge of our dorm and other people were in the kitchen baking something chocolate; now i am craving sweets, almost went to walmart to buy something, but i just bought a season of furturama so i had to control myself from buying too much; trying to save my money; i am a poor college student, what can i say......

Elwing 04-01-2007 03:20 PM

I think I like the cakes my mom always made on birthdays, when I was young.
It was very simple, but very tasty:
A botom of cake, and a sort of strawberry jelly with whole strawberries in it,
and then some cream.... .____. *drools*

And I also love chocolate cake, but I am allergic to chocolate...
Addicted but allergic. Oh the irony.

Atlantis 04-01-2007 03:24 PM

If I had to choose what kind of Cake I like the most, it would definitely have to be...

Ice Cream Cake ^^ Haha, I just like the chocolate in the side.. -dreams about it- Ahh, just talking about it makes me want them even more ;__;

-craves-

Moon 04-01-2007 03:38 PM
