I know this is more of an American/British thing; but how do you all feel about hippies?

(Here's some info if you need it:Hippie Info)

I, personally, love them. I was raised by hippies, I was brought up around hippies, for awhile I didn't know that there was anything else. And then we moved to a city closer to my family and I was in culture shock!

I didn't know it, but most people in the southern United States hate Hippies. ><; It's cute now that I'm grown, but back then I was so confused~

Like em?

-Culture Shock
-60s culture
-Do you know strange things other people tend to forget?

I was raised by hippies, but not in a commune or anything like that. I grew up in Canberra, and then we moved to a small mountain town where there's a big hippie and new age culture, and a conservative culture too, I don't know which is the counter culture of the other. The hippies moved there because apparently it was a native spiritual area, and they feel close to the earth. The conservative people were there because there was farms, and their grandparents had lived there, and normal things like that.

I...

I actually don't have a good experience of hippies, or the conservatives. That whole area was fucked to the core.

They're people like everyone else, but I don't know. I guess people aren't great, haha.

I'm kind of a hippie, I guess. I have long hair and am extremely liberal. I usually don't think about what other people call me. I'm a hippie nerd through and through though. ^_^

I've never really seen any hippies, but that's probably because where I live it's quite conservative and there isn't really too much going on around here. People usually just keep to themselves, so if there really is anyone near where I live with the sorts of ideals and things that hippies have, I don't know who they are. All in all, I suppose, I'm okay with them. They're not bothering me, I won't bother them. As long as I can live in peace with people I'm not complaining. xP

Both political extremes scare me, extreme liberals and conservatives. I don't know a lot of either, though. I'm not very hippie, people tell me, I just think I am.

Holy mess, I love the hippie culture. So, to answer your first question, yes, I like 'em. My friend's mother was at Woodstock, and the stories she tells that happened there leave me truly envious. I was born 20 years later, in '89, so it makes me yearn and have that zealous wish that I could have been born back in the 50s or so just so I would be a teenager during the hippie era.

Seriously, what a great time to be alive, even amidst war. War's around today, even, but there was so much more harmonious living back then, and the hippies are a great showing and display of that.

If anyone has any stories they'd be willing to share that maybe your parents of friends, or even YOU have experienced, I'd be all ears to listen. I find the culture extremely fascinating.

Hippies also scary me a bit >>:
Dunno why, like my fear of clowns you could say.

I love the fact that they are open to nature though, but Im more of a country side kind of person. Id be in heaven if I lived in a far away village with some tech. But Im sure Id complain about it sooner or later xD

Oh and I like how they made the influence/culture change. Meh, I dont know much about hippies. Im probably biased.

I think in some ways I am a hippie- but there is a new generation of neo-hippies coming up.

We're the techie hippies that are pushing and creating things like hybrid cars, electric cars, cars that run on vegetable oil, solar electricity, wind electricity, recycling, and all the fun stuff.

I shop at a co-op ( Weavers Way to be specific) and we compost, recycle, and because our stupid city does not recycle plastic we set it aside and take to to the recycling plant periodically. We shop organic and we shop local - we will almost always buy locally produced products and foods over something imported (even from within the US).

In my mind a hippie coincides with an environmentalist - and the face of environmentalism is changing. hippies were never really anything bad in my mind - as long as they had decent standards of cleanliness.

The closest to hippies that I have had experience with would be a few of my pagan friends. Closest would be "Dress." We call him that since he wears dresses quite a lot. Also have a few friends who believe themselves to be. So from my limited experience, i'd say that the group in general likely would be easy for me to get along with. :3

Dunno why some people hate hippies, but some people do. It's kinda crazy in my opinion. Oh well. Only thing that I disagree with would be the use of drugs (even though that's gone down somewhat I think).
