Unique hairstyles for curly hair? o_o
So, ive had my run-of-the-mill hair for about... ever.
I want it to be different. Ive had tapered angles (back to front and front to back), and i've had it pretty short. I was thinking of having the front remain intact while totally obliterating the back, so its an extreme and immediate drop off, but i dont know o_o; I have a full face (i AM overweight), and the front of my hair has been dyed so many times that it doesnt curl up that much. so, what do you suggest? o_o |
I've had my share of curly hair fumbles, so here's a word of advice:
Simple doesn't mean boring. If you try to get it layered and angled and God knows what else, you'll most likely end up with a mass of curls that all blends together. I don't know how many times I've come out of the hair dressers looking awesome, only to wash it once and find that everything blended together. You'd be better off adding a touch of punk with hair color or accessories, instead of the cut itself. Otherwise: Completely shortening the back really would be a good idea, if you can make the angle dramatic enough. Another thought would be to get it cut all-over to about 2-3 inches in length, just long enough for one curl from each strand. Or go with a fro - Short, but not too short. Run a wire brush through it each morning with a water-squirt bottle, and you'd be set. Dreadlocks are also cool, if you're willing to go that far. A mohawk would also qualify as unique. It isn't too often that you see curly girls sport one. |
The fro sounds really interesting.
My little sister can do that with her hair, but I dont think I can. I dont have tight curls, more like soft ringlets. and I dont know how i'd look with a mohawk. I look like a man with my hair pulled back. o_o; And I always have my hair colored- its pink right now, in the front. Im about to dye a light auburn over it. > 3> I just want something... different. I think i'll be going with the "chop off the back and leave the front okay" thing... the back will still be curly, and the contrast will be pretty cool because the front of my hair is pretty straight from all the bleach. No angles, just... straight vertical drop. Ive had bad experiences with angles and layers. D: |
I can't really help you when it comes to curly hair. My hair is as straight as it gets, which allows me to do everything with it. However my latest style is long in the front angled up to being short in the back, with side bangs. you could try something like that, and have the rest curl with the front staying straight, that might work? I back comb my hair is its ridiculously huge so I'm sure you might be able to pull it off. Aside from that, maybe pick up a magaize, there are some devoted only to hairstyles... might be good for you. |
I have curly hair ;O; like lockets if i let it grow.. so I know what you mean... it's so hard to have it done different ; ;
I have eh really short hair on the back and long front @[email protected] some bangs too I also did my hair with one side shorter and the other longer >_< If you don't want to cut it that short you could try long hair and then you could easly make pretty cool things X3 |
i tried angles short in back and short in front; with my curls it wasnt all that noticeable. D:
i might go for a more extreme angle though- but all my hairdressers dont do it because its not noticeable. x_x |
Some of my friends with rounder faces have gotten short cuts, and I have to say, I thought their longer hair looked better. Sharp angle really only look good with sharp features, so maybe if you let you hair grow to a little past shoulder length and just give it soft curls?
Also long hair is pretty versatile; you can put it up in a lot of different ways. You don't have to totally cut your hair to make it interesting, just switch it up every now and then (curly one day, straightened the next, up the next day, etc.) Or get different shades of highlights, like get a lighter color for a while and then darken it up. :) |
I would do that, Meir, but my hair reverts back to curly within 5 minutes of me straightening it.
Its the humidity down here. Which makes my hair less work-withable. D: |

im currently planning on keeping the front long though. :3 |
I cant really say if it would work on curly hair, or even at all as i haven't tried it myself. But, you could have a side fringe put it straighten the front part of your hair, say to your ears and leave the rest curly. I don't know what it would look like but might be a idea for you. I'm not very good with hair.

yes, its rather fried, but its also long, which adds weight to it, keeping it straight. D: Im not good with hair either; thats why I turned to this forum. xD |
You can always turn to different kinds of conditioner or products to get the curl back into the front part of your hair. Look into deep conditioners the next time you step into Walmart. Just because it seems fried now doesn't mean that it has to stay that way together. A month's worth of care may get it all shaped into soft curls again.

You said you have a full face, so I'd suggest not going for curly hair.
Curls often give a chubby face far more roundness than straight hair. It increases the look of the weight. I'd say get a Chi and straighten your hair to death. |
@Rainbow-
xD Trust me, I've tried. My friend has a Chi and we tried to straighten it just for the hell of it. It looked... weird. But then we went outside, and within 5 minutes my hair returned to its former, curly glory. Thats Florida humidity for you. x_x The front is straighter than the rest though- ive bleached and dyed it so many times it doesnt curl up as much. xD @knerd- Ive been trying different products to do that.... I like the fact that it doesnt curl as much (which also might be caused by the length, too; when its longer it doenst curl as much as when its short); but I hate the fried-ness. x_x |
Sorry i got no idea ^^; i dont care for my hair being curly/dyed etc and know nothing about hair so i got no idea sorry. :(
have you tried to curl it with curlers? |
I dont need to, its naturally curly. o_o;
