I am guilty of bashing Americans, even though I know it is a belief that is is ignorant based on stereotypes and bordering on racist. Americans to me are presented as being ignorant of anything outside of their own country, being dumb enough to vote in president Bush for a second term and being greedy enough to dine out on super sized big macs once or twice a week at the least. The stereotypes of an American to me is an overly religious, Christian zealot, who is overweight, eats too much fast food and has the intelligence of a door mouse. Though through experience at least, I have come to know that all three of these things isn't necessarily true...

America is great compared to some countries. I prefer Canada much more, even though I lived most of my life in the US. I just like how the government is run better here. The justice system is also better in Canada in my opinion. Yes, a lot of Americans are stupid, but I’ve met some people that are very well educated that are American that know better about what’s going on in a country than someone who lives there. About being rude, I’ve met French people that were pretty rude along with some people that were from Japan. So the rudeness thing doesn’t only apply to Americans.
It does not cost ten thousand dollars to go out of country. O_o; The most I spent $3000 and still had a nice trip to Ecuador. My sister also went to France for two weeks for around the same amount. Passports themselves are however becoming harder to get.

I don't hate America, I just like making fun of Americans occasionally ;o
And eh, in most countries/cities etc most people tend to form a general opinion based on what they've seen/the majority of what they've seen although as with all cases, not everyone is like that, the majority doesn't count for everyone blah blah blah.
And i've never noticed any proper American hate, for lack of a better term, I just kind of assumed people were just fooling around and not taking it too seriously etc
I also make fun of other countries too, even my own, just by using stereotypes etc. IE - All Scottish people are ginger and wear kilts ;p XD

What's wrong with being American? What's wrong with being male? What's wrong with being female? Heterosexual? Homosexual? Bisexual? What about being black? Chinese? Japanese? Caucasian? A mixed race?
Nothing's wrong with being any of these things and more. Prejudice blows, plain and simple, and I feel for anyone who has been prematurely judged based on anything, be it physical or "heard it through the grapevine".
That aside, it still chaps my rear when someone sincerely believes that one race or country really is so rotten. It's a shame that some societies on the whole are so corrupt that it ruins it for everyone.

now I didnt read all of these posts but I already saw a few things that were like....what?
The lower class in America probably wouldn't consider themselves "fat". There are starving people in America, not as many as in many other countries. But if we are supposed to be the leaders of the free world shouldn't have starving citizens.
And Im sure a lot of the lower citizens only have themselves to blame in some way or another-addiction etc.
but this isnt really addressing the topic sorry.
When I was in Japan the other month I was really amazed at their country and how it runs. The customer service (even in grocery or dollar stores) was absolutely amazing. The people at the airport even thou they only spoke Japanese (and had MANY foreign people who spoke no Japanese coming to them throu customs) were very kind, they all tried to be friendly and always were very surprised and happy when they found out that I spoke Japanese.
Most Americans complain that anyone who steps into our country and dosn't speak perfect english just isnt trying hard enough.
I'm also not very happy with the huge debt we have, not just from the war but from our own citizens. I'm tired of seeing the commercials that say they can reduce your debt and "are you 50,000$ or more in credit card debt?"
I think there should be a test, or at least a class you have to take before getting a credit card. We are spending invisable money! >_<;;;
But I am upset at this anti support because nothing will change if everyone says "f-this" about their own country. It takes people to change a government no matter how messed up it is.
anyway enough off topic rambling. sorry if I was totaly off topic with that mini-half-rant.

I've got relatives in Wisconsin. My relatives who are children show me nothing but hatred and jealousy. They think I've got it all because I live in California. They see me and asume I'm thin and pretty because of where I live and that their obesity on not their fault. They eat garbage. Tons of fried garbage. They don't see or believe the correlation.
I don't wear expensive clothes. I'm a bargain person. I like clothing with a little touch of ribbon or frill. I dress sort of cutesy. It fits my figure and my features. They automatically assume that the little, golden sandals I got for five dollars, must have cost hundreds. So what if I like to dress nice? I don't judge how they dress. Why should they judge me?
Random strangers will make an extra effort to be rude to me, because I'm thin. I'd heard that in California we were unfriendly, I no longer beleive it.
After going west I can understand how we might be stereotyped as rude or fat. I hate to think I've been lumped in with the smae people who take joy in harassing me.

Well, hmm, I tend to say i hate my country, but then i live in the USA and tend to hate most people i come across.
Simply, because, well, most people when I try and discuss topics that does not consist of football or Lindsay Lohan, most people don't know anything.
And it's not too much to go across the borders and need passports, got Canada to the North and Mexico to the South. I've known quite a few people who went back and forth between the 2 and usually required maybe 20 dollars, less if it was mexico.
But yes, i do hate stereotypes, and have noticed it's not most people seem to hate americans, but just those in charge.

Wow O.o Major America bashing going on, nee?
Let me touch on the topic of the war and politics really quickly.
The war itself is very frowned upon by most if not all liberal thinkers and even many republicans are second guessing it. No one likes war and in my personal opinion it is needless. However, what people don't realize or even think about is that the reason we're there is because other countries expect us to be. America has to hold up this image of power and indestructibility and essentially we've become a sort of police for the world. What if we hadn't done any thing at all? What if al qaeda and other such extremist groups had gone on to bomb or attack other places? Then the entire world would instantly be jumping on America's back to do some thing and why we didn't retaliate and basically blame us.
Now take a look at what the makeup of the population of America is.
I know Italians, Slovenians, Irish, Germans, French, Koreans, and just about any other heritage you can think of. Hell, I just went to little Italy yesterday XD We have cultural awareness at our school and a whole day to celebrate Hispanic heritage. The thing is, America is a compilation of all other countries into one large mass. Aside from native Americans, Americans come from all other countries so people who bash Americans are essentially bashing themselves.
Instead of talking about what you think Americans are like why don't you talk about some thing more productive like the conflict Darfur or the Sudan. How many of you non-Americans know what I'm talking about?

I actually live in America but don't like it. Not to say I hate the people, I just don't care too much for the country >.> If that made sense. I don't like it much here because of the weather, politics, and laws. That's about it =/

I'm the same way, but when people hate me just because I'm American, it bugs me. When they assume I'm fat, lazy, and stupid and the only thing I know about are about Brittney and Lindsey? I don't think so. If I had made a thread about the UK (which I wouldn't, I want to become a citizen there someday. ^^; ), then I'd get bashed. If I made a thread about anywhere but America at the same time as that thread was made, calling the whole country ignorant and stupid, do you think I'd get good reactions?

I'm American, and I'm damn proud of it. :3
As for people thinking we're stupid because we are American, you can blame that on our president. </3
