Apparently today they're nominating it to be a day where you go out of your way to do something nice for someone else. I guess they're wanting to make September 11th a national day of charity, good deeds and volunteer service.

I do volunteer work all throughout the month a various places and am thinking about adding a couple more organizations to my list including our local animal shelter.

You don't like *have* to go out and do something, something simple as asking someone you don't normally talk to how they are, or saying hi to that really awkward nerdy kid no one likes at school or asking an eldery woman if she needs help with anything.

Or, if you'd rather just sit back and not have to phsyically do anything, donate a small amount of money to a charity via the internet or a local one. Or, clothes are something that are very needed. If you have a good will, salvation army, etc and a women's shelter or men's shelter is a very good place to donate clothes and I would highly suggest talking to them about donations first.

I have a big issue with Sept. 11th and most holidays based on such events or similar events. This charity thing is a nice idea, however I don't think in this day and age it matters. To many people don't do anything for their neighbors or for poor people or even animals. This generation of people are so stuck up and spoiled that I just feel devoting a day is not enough and not ever going to work. If we really wanted too we can stop poverty, stop the government from making horrible decision and do so much more but people are not wiling to get together for anything.

Nice idea but I doubt it will work. They can raise millions but it will be the same group of people and you have seen the world? Nothing really changed.

I'll tell you like I told another person earlier who commented that it should be everyday, not just one day.

Doing something like this makes people feel like they're filling an obligation, but there are positive things that rise up out of it. They realize it was easy, it didn't take much and it raises awareness on issues and brings attention to the charities and organizations that are available to people in their hometown.

If you can't see any good in it, try to think about the fact that it does bring attention to what people can do to help out and maybe they'll be more likely to do something again.

  • I like this idea, I certainly will join. C: I love it how you're doing volunteer work, very kind and sweet of you. I do it as often as I can, mainly helping out at homeless shelters and such. : ] I think all people should do good deeds automatically though, rather than some people be told

I'd love to work at a homeless shelter, but the closest one is like 45 minutes away and I just can't afford the gas to get there, nor could I find the time to do all the driving back and forth. It's hard enough keeping a full time job, being a full time student and doing all my volunteer work.

I'd love to work with our animal shelter, but I don't know if I can handle it emotionally since they went back on their word of it being no kill.

go to www.thechildhealthsite.com for the click a day charity. They also have www.thehungersite.com www.theliteracysite.comwww.therainforestsite.comwww.theanimalrescuesite.com
www.thebreastcancersite.com

All you have to do is click a day to fund a mammogram, save a square feet of rainforest, feed a cup of food, give the gift of reading to a child, etc.

Also, use Goodsearch.net to search and the proceeds go to whichever charity you choose![/url]

I don’t know why there needs to be a special day for that kind of stuff. I do stuff like that all the time because I like to help people and animals. It bothers me that people are so selfish that they don’t normally do anything for anyone else other than themselves.
