New Possible Fuel Source : Saltwater

  • Shocked at the title, eh? It appears that a Cancer Research Scientist accidentally found a way to burn Saltwater. He was testing out a device to try treat cancer. To read more ; see this link, its a very interesting story.

I'm sure I read somewhere we have too high a level of salt in the water in many places... this would be great!

I still support windmills and solar panels, but they really are too costly. this sounds cheap. They are right, water is very abundant!

Shrii 09-12-2007 07:54 AM

Now that, is pretty darn awesome xD. I have to show my dad this - he'll probably get a kick out of it. XD.

Alexandrus Gambino 09-12-2007 10:07 AM

*cough* But that means we'd be releasing... Let me see... Chlorine, Sodium and Oxygen as a byproduct right? YAY!

padfootsy 09-12-2007 10:09 AM

  • well hey that's great, seeing as how more than half of the world is made up of saltwater. It seems too good to be true.

`F o a m 09-12-2007 11:41 AM

  • Yeah, let's use up all of the water now! xDD

Icebreaker 09-12-2007 10:03 PM

yeah i remember seeing this topic on yahoo earlier ^_^
pretty interesting...but itll take a while for them to actually make it into fuel for cars though, i think...
its a little wierd
like, it wonts be as great when you try to do a donut in your car and leave it smokin'
its not just the tires that creates smoke, its mostly the exhaust
salt water will...like...not be visible... :(

  • Steve lives by the Atlantic Ocean.
    Atlantic Ocean=Salt.
    Steve=Saved.

Stephanie 09-12-2007 11:54 PM

Oh my God!
I want to cry right now! We're SAVED!!! :DDD

Thats freaking amazing!!!
This way we have a TON of it, everyone can use it and there aren't any harmful chemicals and gases going to the atmosphere!

The only problem is, how are we gonna regulate it? People could go to the beach and just fill up their tanks. Unless we could all get free salt water, with a limit cap of course though.
I'm just blown away by modern science. This solves SO MUCH of the Earths problems right now, especially for America and China. I'm not saying other countries don't burn up fossil fuels, but the two countries use up a TON more than other countries.

I'm dazed right now xD This is FANTASTIC!!!

poet`s playground 09-12-2007 11:54 PM

I love that x3. My friend showed me to that, because she knows I'm all about finding alternative fuel sources and all of that. So naturally I think that's pretty cool.

I don't think it releases chlorine... if it did, I think we'd be in trouble o_O.

The Mad Hatter 09-12-2007 11:58 PM

Thats awesome, I hope that this really works out. Even if it does work it doesnt mean the government or people are going to willing to use it. Which sucks because we really should. It's a great discovery. I cant wait to see it a few years from now! :'D

padfootsy 09-12-2007 11:59 PM

  • Padfootsy lives by the Pacific Ocean
    Pacific Ocean = Salt
    Padfootsy = saved too!

Zweres 09-13-2007 12:01 AM

  • : ] It doesn't have to be used for only fuel. There is tons of possibilities that could be formed by this new amazing discovery

I'm not too keen on it; I'd have to see some more research and especially the effects of even considering salt water as a resource before actually taking it into account of use. Radio frequencies used for cancer leave a radioactive residue (Which is why cancer patients who have had chemotherapy cannot travel without a doctor's permission paper) which sets off alarms and can cause illness to others when it hasn't gone through a proper time of half life.

Plus, we have ways to use new resources, ones that are renewable, ones that don't cost anything, and that don't take more energy to create than they generate (like some ethanol sources [corn]). Our industry chooses not to because of the economic pressures of politics.

I'd just prefer to use anything that doesn't have any negative effects. However... a legitimate concern for ethanol being used as fuel is it would make the price of corn skyrocket, and corn is also used as food, adn there are so many people who don't get enough food as it is. That said, though, I do wish they would make it more usable.

I'm not wild about it. I don't want chlorine gas in my atmosphere. It's toxic. It kills people. Politics make it seem like the world will end tomorrow. Do you really think humanity can fuck up the Earth that quickly? I know we're good at it an all but, damn, that would be a record.

That is interesting. unfortunatelly the sitters from oil companies will do thier best to keep it from reaching a practical use for as long as they can.

  • Because as we all know, money is more important than the world on which it exists >.<.

galdon 09-13-2007 03:25 AM

Sadly, that is how business sees things.. i'm still waiting on the hydrogen cars to get popular, all they produce in fumes is water vapor, so, that sounds pretty good. plus hydrogen is cheep and readily available, most common element in the known universe.

diehly 09-13-2007 05:45 PM

Not a good idea I love our oceans. However if you made a saltwater tank and just used that water that would be a great idea.

cleric sarah 09-13-2007 09:35 PM

I think ANY new possible source of fuel is good...the oil supply has gone down and how long will digging for oil last?

I believe that a better source and possibly one that will save whats left of the ozone is a good idea

Spencer 09-13-2007 11:58 PM

That would be a great idea!

:o

Allucard 09-14-2007 12:00 AM

I think salt water should make a great fuel provided that;

1)the water that is used remains in the water cycle, like it turns into water vapor and goes into the atmosphere, condenses and falls back to the surface, so we don't run out of usable water.

2)people renew the salt water taken from the oceans. I don't think it's a great idea to kill off all the fish and other creatures that live in salt water.

mystic kiwi 09-14-2007 01:39 AM

It’s interesting, but even if they do find a way to power cars with it, they most likely won’t be too fast to switch over to saltwater. It would hurt the economy anyway because saltwater can be gathered for free. It would be nice though if it did happen.
