Formal Dances
We have quite a few dances each year. There's homecomming, ring dance for the sophmores, a winter one, a valentine's dance, one in the spring, and prom for the juniors and seniors. I'm not a big fan of dresses or skirts but there's jsut somethign about getting dressed up for these dances... It makes me all giddy and happy. Not to mention, I love shopping for dresses. :D
Discussion topics: Wearing dresses/skirt on a daily basis. Getting dressed up for dances. Dress shopping. Things that make you giddy. Riddiculus traditions that make no sence. |

The only formal dance my school ever had was Prom for Juniors, and Prom for Seniors. And I didn't go to either of mine.
I just don't enjoy that sort of thing. Shopping for dresses reminds me that i have more important things to spend oodles of money on. Why blow it all on something I'll only wear once? (Or something that costs a thousand times more than it should? Especially when I could make something prettier by myself.) I never understood the point of renting limos and paying for high priced tickets and worrying over dates, etc. It as too much drama for me. I preferred to spend the night at home, relaxing, then head on out to the after parties. |
@Torikat: that's exactly why i dont' wear skirt. and the fact that they're just soo uncomfortable... I'm sorry to her you don't have any guyfriends. They really can be great when they're not hitting on you... :D
@Knerd: I never bother about dates. I jsut go and have fun with my freinds. and i don't spend more that $50 on a dress. Heck, not even that... |
Wearing dresses/skirt on a daily basis. I usually wear pants on a daily basis but skirts and dresses are nice in the summer.
Getting dressed up for dances. I haven't done that in years but it was a lot of fun of course. Dress shopping. I hated shopping for dresses usually cause I hated seeing them look bad on me. XD Things that make you giddy. My boyfriend...shush...he's not a dress. Riddiculus traditions that make no sence. *shrugs* |
Usually throughout high school I went to formal dances in a reasonably priced dress and hung out with my gay best friend. For my senior prom, my dress was free (free!) and I went with my best girl friend, who got all dolled up in a dressy shirt/vest/pants combination that matched my dress. We showed up an hour late, made fun of our friends, went to Sonic for snacks, then went to her house and played video games.
Best. Prom. Ever! |
Our school only had the senior formal but it was so much fun and it was the first dress that I wore in a long time, now I wanna go out shopping for summer dresses because I am sick of only ever wearing 3/4 pants.
The whole getting my hair done thing was great to though I had a headache because of all the pins jammed into my skull. Later on when I took em out I found out that there where 72 of them. |
@Masquerade: OMG that sounds like sooo much fun! haha my freinds ad i will probably do something like that... I doubt we'll go to the after party. we might jsut crash at my house and play Zelda all night. :D
@Aeisha: wow 72 pins... that's... A LOT! haha. i hate updos so im probs gonna get curls and pin them half up in a pretty way. |
My wardrobe mainly consists of skirts. I don't know why, but I think they're so much better than pants, plus they make me look creative. And skinnier. As for dances, our school has a few of them. Most of them are casual, though. No one dresses up (unless they want to stick out). But our school is having a semi-formal dance at the end of the year, and it's going to be the first one I'm attending. I'm a bit nervous, but mostly happy and excited. It'll give me an excuse to go shopping for a new dress.

I love being able to get dressed up and wear pretty clothes.
Sad thing is that formal dances at my school weren't worth going to. So it was never worth the money. Hopefully there'll be something fun at college.... Also, I love wearing long skirts. I've got a black velvet one and a dark grey velvet one...... I love wearing them all the time. |
Rose ~ I think it bruised my head, but it was really nice even if it was painful.
|
I hate dances. I'm intentionally avoiding all of them. O_O
|
I love dances too but I hate dancing with guys as they always step on my toes and it hurts! some of these guys are big! like really really tall young men who look dashing in their suits but look crappy when they are trying to get into your pants afterwards.

I hate dresses and skirts pretty much more than anything. I also hate doing my hair and make up too. I hate dress shopping too. I go for suits because they look better on me because I have boney legs and shoulders. Plus they’re more comfortable to me. I only went to one dance through high school and that was my senior year homecoming. I found it very boring too. Dances and formal evens just aren’t my thing.

wow... again I find a thread on Menewsha about a conversation I had the day earlier.
My dad once again sounded his disappointment in my lil sis and I; we both wear long jeans all the time and never skirts or dresses in public (I wear them at home sometimes when its hot, skirts I mean. I don't think I own a single dress) I was browsing through dresses, contemplating the idea of going to homecoming this year (alas, I couldn't get a ride). Ugg. Every dress was either no straps or thin straps or overly decorated and poofy. I like simple, like the Ross commercials, too bad I can't go to Ross... and I wonder if they have those dresses in junior sizes? I get giddy when I read comedy, watch comedy, and watch my amusing friends. ^o^ I don't see the point in getting all giddy at dressing up though... except for cosplaying of course! I never liked chinese traditions based on word play - such as not washing your hair on your bday and chinese new year's because of luck reasons. I like the tradition of giving kids money though ^o^ |
I would love to dress up all the time but I really have no pooint to and its very cold here right now :( otherwise I would dress up pretty all the time ;P

I would like our dances if they didn't have such bad DJs and ONLY play rap music for people to have dry dance sex to.
I like getting dressed up. I like feeling pretty. I like being taken out and being a cute girl. Our proms are always really nice, well planned and put together but its always ruined by this icky music. >_< I woudn't mind SOME rap/DJ but I'd love for once for us to get a real band to play some nice music and then to have a DJ come in or whatever. It seriously sucks. I don't know if I want to go-the only reason I might is because I haven't gone to a formal dance yet >_>; and it falls around my boy and I's one year anni and all so *shrug* |
For me especially, it depends what kind of dance I'm going to. School dances, I'm not particularily fond of. Mainly because I hate the people in my school and my friends seem to act a bit lame at dances. ._.
Team Dances or Family dances I like because my b/f is on my team and when there is a dance, it's magical, plus all my better friends are on my team. family dances are just pure fun because I get to sit around and waste time, eating the free food. 8D Edit: And dresses. I don't usually wear dresses. I usually am the one in a T-shirt and skirt. Ha. None of the dances I usualy go to or so formal that we're expected to wear a dress so I've only been dress shopping once for my Aunts wedding. I didn't like it considering my grandma basically was going to torture me if I didn't buy some Chinese Oriental Dress 3 sizes too small for me. x.x |
I hate formal dances!! -_-
I went 2 my prom and it was bored!!!! And 2 my causin birthday and it's was formal it was her sweet 16 and it was soo bored!!! So I reallly hate Formal Dances party's!! |
There's hardly any dances except semi-formal and prom at my place. I think there may be one or two dances aside that? But I don't go to them. Waste of time in my opinion.
|
My middle school had more dances than my high school did. XD And they were better DJ'd. X3
But anyways - I've only ever bought two formal dresses. They still fit and I feel like a princess when I'm in them. ^^ The first one I bought when I was in tenth grade, and it was for the Snow Ball that year. It's a powder blue color with lots of blue/purple iridescent beads sewn onto it in flower formations. I also wore it to Prom (my boyfriend at that time was a senior that year), and felt like I was the center of attention (in a good way)! My boyfriend (again, at that time - but we're still good friends!) wore a matching shirt and tie under his suit jacket - we looked really nice together! The second one I bought for my own prom. It's a pinkish-magenta - a color I never thought I'd wear! But it looks so good on me! X3 I feel like a movie star on the red carpet when I wear it. ^^ |
I love dressing up, as well as gettting dressed up.
(costume/prettyfying) Though that was pretty much the only bit I enjoyed about my formal...the music was deafining toward the end so I sat outside by myself in the freezing cold, I dont dance, my friends were acting weird, I didn't GO with anybody.. xD ok, enough of that... but yeah I love dressing up, cupid, pirate, my own super-hero, FRUiTS, Lolita, Elegant gothic, space alieness (I was 11 at the time), Ghost when I was like 4 in the primary school parade, clowns, disney characters, Betty Rubble, Good times good times! |
My daughter is at her homecoming dance right now and we had a pretty good time shopping for her dress. I never got to go to any of the formals when I was in high school. I am not generally a skirt or dress kind of person, I prefer a comfy pair of jeans or shorts but, occasionally I like to get dressed up and go out to eat or something, it just feels nice to do that once in a while.

Our school is never organized enough to put on dances, and when they do, there tends to be a huge crowd of druggies. It's a shame, because I'm a darn good dancer and dressing up is fun.
