Ever since high school, i've had an extremely difficult time sitting through classes. It's because, for some reason, the sounds people make irritate me unreasonably- from breathing, to coughing, to sniffing, to chewing gum. I don't know why, and i can't help it, but it makes concentrating almost impossible. I guess you could call it a pet peeve of mine (although that implies some sort of affection involved, so i wouldn't, quite). It also drives me up a wall when people sit in class and smack their gum with their mouths hanging wide open. Why do girls, especially pretty ones, do this? They look like cows chewing their cud. It's loud and distracting, and i find it unthoughtful and rude.

So! Most of you are probably stuck in some kind of class during the day. What do people do that drives you up a wall? Do you ever just get up and leave? Ask the offenders to stop? Or do you just grit your teeth and ignore it?

I'm not in school but on a similar note. My daughter and I cannot stand to eat at the same table with my husband, he is the loudest eater I have ever heard in my life, it's disgusting. My son is loud too but, that's because I have to keep telling him to close his mouth, once he does we can't hear him anymore. My husband also eats like an animal, he bends way down over his plate and shovels the food in fast like someone is going to steal it from him. So disgusting.

I know what you mean. I can't understand how/why people eat like that, no offense to your husband. My boyfriend's roommate is like that. Does it make the food taste better or something? I was always taught, chew with your mouth shut, sit up straight and bring the food to your mouth, not your mouth to the food. Never exhale or sigh after taking a drink. Never lick/suck on your fingers. Stuff like that.

And now i'm neurotic about it. My boyfriend is sitting right next to me and he thinks i'm crazy.

I'm not in school either, but in relation to what you brought up, I hate hearing chewing sounds. It just really disgusts me. And it's weird, because its mostly hearing my mom chew that I hate the most. And she eats with her mouth closed and everything! I must have better hearing than is normal.

  • I hate hearing chewing sounds. It doesn't disgust me, but it does annoy me. My room mate does it whenever he eats.

I think i know exactly what you mean, Immortaleyes x'p It's awful, because people usually think you're just being too touchy... but you can't help it, right?

Pickles, that's rough that your roommate does it. You can't really get away from that...

  • It's not so bad, I'd rather hear him chew, than to hear him snore (which is way way louder).

Some people get really annoyed by the way my jaw pops when I eat. It's a genetic thing, and it's gotten a little more noticeable over the years (although most people don't even hear it).

It's a little upsetting when people get angry at me over it. I can't do anything about it.

  • Zwelie - My jaw pops when I eat too. I'm sorry people get mad at you for it, you are right, it's nothing you can stop (unless you stop eating altogether - which isn't something you should do), so people need to understand that.

I'm sorry people give you trouble for that, Zewlie and Pickles x'( I can pop my jaws pretty loudly, but it doesn't do it all on its own.

That sort of sound doesn't bother me- it's like, the mashing, chewing, wet sounds that get to me, personally.

I hate it when people smell...funny. It drives me up the wall because I can't escape the smell. stupid noises people make I can ignore and get over, but the smells just drive me crazy for pretty much the entire class period. I used to have to sit behind this guy that didn't shower but -maybe- once a week. He told me so, and it was noticeable in the way he smelled. UGH I was so grossed out I went up to the teacher after class one day and told him i had to move. He asked why and I told him it was because I couldn't concentrate past my gagging on te smell of the person in front of me, he told me to not be so mean and ignore it. HOW CAN YOU IGNORE SOMETHING SO PUTRID?! I eventually transferred classes. that was my last non honors/ap class in high school. Me and the average kids just didn't get along well. ^^;;

I have noticed that a lot of people like to chew gum with their mouth hanging open though. I think they think it's sexy, or defiant to the school, but really it just looks stupid. :/

I can't stand people who chew food with their mouth open, or that smell. It just makes me think of bad hygiene, and that turns me way off. If someone is chewing with their mouth open, normally I'll just tell them to close it. Even if I just met there person. Normally they're cool with it, because its habbit and no one has told them otherwise. When I was in school I'd hate it when people would start tapping their pencils against their desk. Drove me crazy, at which point I'd normally tell them to stop, or just glare at them. It worked.

Ooh, with me, it's the people who talk all the time even when no one else is really around and the people who click their pens constantly even when they're walking around.

I'm a chronic gum-chewer, but I keep my mouth closed. It really isn't that difficult to have some manners.
My pet peeve in public is people who make stupid jokes and don't realize how awkward they are. Makes me want to smack them across the head and shout "Shut up!"

ARGH. So today I was at school (obviously) and I was just in a really, really bad mood. And so, because karma seems to want me dead, all day today people just KEPT SMACKING MY ASS.
Normally I find this sort of amusing, but today it was just really pissing me off. All throughout eighth period, the girl who sits behind me kept stabbing me in the ass with her knee. She didn't mean to, but it was really aggravating...
And that's my semi-on topic rant for the day.

But yeah, I REALLY hate being slapped, even jokingly. I'm not sure why, it just makes me want to hit the person as HARD AS I CAN, even though they didn't mean to hurt me.
When I'm in a bad mood, I also can't stand being poked or really touched in any way that I didn't initiate. I LIKES MY BUBBLE!

  • My best friend has this thing called sensory defensiveness - she gets unnaturally quickly annoyed with people chewing gum, and it can completely ruin her mental health and her whole day. She won't be able to focus on anything else and it drives her mad. She's been reading a lot about sensory defensiveness now and has also been seeing a shrink about it, and I think it's a lot better now.

What I personally can't stand in class is when people are talking near me. I mean, I can understand whispered conversations, I have them too sometimes, but when people aren't whispering but talking, that can infuriate me so much. The other day, there was this guy who kept ranting on and on and on to his friend who didn't really say anything back, he was just reading some manga online. But this guy, he talked and talked and talked, not loud enough to disturb the teacher I think, since we were right at the back of the room, but well loud enough to disturb at least half of the class. Finally the guy in front of them asked him to shut up, I was so thankful I wanted to hug him. >.<

I hate when people talk while the teacher is talking, or try to talk to me while the teacher's talking. Even if I'm totally not paying attention, I don't wanna be bothered by their noise XD

My pet peave is cell phones. I hate when someone is talking to me/ or I am serving them at work and they just hear their cell go off and just answer it and ignore me. It makes me really irritated and I squish most of their stuff after they do that or I just act really rude back. As for table manners my family is really good so no worry there and when at work I often go outside and eat by myself. It is just more pleasant to eat in the sunshine where you can't see all of your co-workers gloomy faces.

I cannot stand whiners, such as comments I have heard from these people "Its not fair" *insert whiney tone of voice* it really drives me nutty, so much so that I just almost want to smack them in the face or something just to be able to snap them out of it or whatever. I mean if your unhappy with something try to fix it already.

ugh D:

I feel the same way, I can't stand certain things and noises...

If in a learning enviorment, I cant stand people who wiggle their foot/tap their foot, tap their nails/chomp on gum, tap ANYTHING...those things drive me bonkers...

I also can't stand when you have a person who just doesn't understand and is constantly asking the same questions over and over which (I have a 2 hour class in math and I'm semi ok with math so I want to learn) depletes the class time and then when your given the work you don't know how to accomplish it because someone was asking questions and the professor wasn't able to finish explaining D: <

I also cant stand the popping of the gum -___-

>-< I know how you feel! It's just annoying and disgusting the way they look like cows when they chew the gum with their mouth wildly open! D: It's not a pleasant view for sure! I try to not look at the person who acts like cow and as well I try to not let out a evil comment..

What annoys me too is when the room is completely in silence and someone is making a stupid sound with their mouth! And when they think they are a drummer, slamming the pens on the table while people are trying to focus on doing a complex calculation! IT'S NOT A CONCERT IT'S MATH! :x On those moment I just imagine me sticking the point of the pens on their eyes or slamming my hand against their faces! <.<;; It's a bit to rude but they make me go nuts when they do stupid noises 3x

Maybe I'm weird, but without those sounds I can't focus. I need noise of some sort. If no one else is making noise, I will.

I very rarely pay attention anyway. The lectures bore me, and my school's stupid curriculum repeats so often that it's not uncommon for me to know the material better than the teacher.

And I chew like a cow...

What I can't stand is when a teacher treats the ADVANCED class like we're BASIC. With the problems in math, I'm usually done the problem before the teacher even finishes the the first step. I hate it. It's so boring.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that gets irked by that sort of thing. My fiance says I'm just 'extra sensitive' because I tell him to shut his mouth when he is eating o_O
My step-father smacks his mouth when he eats as well...and dont get me started on when he eats nuts of any kind, he chews them for about 5 minutes with his mouth open like a cow with cud, until it gets to the point where I am screaming in my head "Just swallow the bloody things!"
