My friend swears she sings terribly. "Like a dying crow" is one of her favorite similes to describe her singing with. But right now she is singing with some Bleach opening theme song thats sounds beautiful to me. Ahhh such lovely singing! Does your singing just sound worse to your own ears?

i think people SAY they sound bad so that people are a little easier on them :3 my friend is that way...shes doesn't build herself up and that way, people wont criticise her as harshly.

I've actually been trying to convince her that she sounds fine for years, but I think it just dawned on her that I'm serious. Or maybe she is just keeping it a topic of discussion for somdthing to discuss. She is quite an actress. . .

I think alot of us are like that, especially if you can hardly take a compliment (like me) >.<

Otherwise, I would be like that.
But, most of my friends are the choir kids at my school, so they can and know they can sing well.
And my other friends... can't sing too well. And they realize this. So everyone's pretty mch on the right page.

I'm a choir kid, but I was in the only choir you don't have to audition for...>.> Though, I was invited to join one of the more advanced choirs. x.x

I like to think I sound horrible (I like saying it too.) but that's mainly because I don't want to say I think I sound okay because then I might be accused of having a "big head?" xD;;<3

Thinking you sing worse than you actually do is probably better in some ways than thinking you sing much better than you actually do.

My mother is obsessed with American Idol, and I used to have to watch the stupid thing with her. Honestly, it broke my heart when some wannabe-Madonna gets their dreams crushed by the brutally honest judges. But still... there's a limit, you know? Not everyone is a fantastic singer. If you're not, go find your own niche.

• Our voices sound different to us than they do to others. I think my voice and singing are terrible, but everyone loves them. No clue why though.
  
  If you wish for her to know how good she is then.... Maybe record her on a good camera with sound and let her listen to it. It may change her mind. I had to do that for myself. Haha.

• Phones normally never record your true voice. Try a camera or webcam mic. They tell the truth more.
  
  My cell phone makes me sound twelve years old when recorded, it's terrible.

For me..while I sing to a song or something afterwards I'm just like
"Ho shizz..I should sign up for Canadian idol 8D"
But then..when I record myself singing or listen to a play-back I burst out in laughter at how horrible I sound. Others agree that I don't sound fanominal either..

When listening to yourself sing, it can sound better or worse. The voice we here in our head, usually isn't the voice other people hear. Or so I'm told. Some of my friends sing wonderfully, and think they can't sing. And some of my friends sing HORRIBLY, and think they're amazing. :roll:

Honestly, I do think I sing horridly. All of my friends, except this one apparently, hold their ears when I sing. xD

My friends say they can sing.
When I sing they complain.
I know I can't but ._. I don't tell them that they suck.
When they sing they sound really aweful.

Haha, I can sing alright, and it's fun. It really annoys me when someone goes fishing for compliments by complaining that 'OMG liek i cant sing' when they are perfectly decent at it. Besides, I'd rather listen to someone confident and off-key then someone who sings beautifully but is too shy to let it shine.

If someone has low confidence, they probably don't realize they sing well.

I know that I'm always afraid to sing in front of people but my friends have caught me singing along to some songs and have always said that it sounds wonderful. Even after I've been told that, I still try to not sing around people unless I'm absolutely comfortable with them. Just started singing in front of my boyfriend after we've been dating for 6 years ^^;

Your friend is probably just not confident enough to sing in front of others so she tries to get out of it by saying she sings horribly.

I'm an oddball I guess... I think I sound really good when I sing (when my throat's in good shape, of course. XD; ). I hate what my microphone does to my voice (it tends to make it sound like I'm struggling to hit some notes even though I can hit them just fine); I need to get one of higher quality. XD;

i think im good and bad sometimes..but i mostly hear im a good singer..i think my friend has a really good voice too

I dont' generally sing, but I think that sometimes I cacn hit notes I didnt' think I could depending on the song. But then again most of the time when I sing along, to songs I'll scream the lyrics all metal like, and yeah... as a joke anyway. I have friends that can really sing though, and they're amazing. I just stay away from that. I'm content with being an artist.

Eh, a lot of people are over-critical of their own talents, either because they're comparing themselves to much better people and are setting high standards, or because they're fishing for compliments. I couldn't say which your friend is without knowing them.

Myself, I can hold a tune, but I have a limited vocal range and a voice that isn't very distinctive. On the other hand, I've got a strange talent for singing very fast (my songs have a lot of words but rarely last more than two or three minutes), and I have been complimented by people a few times, so I suppose I can't be too horrible.

I know people who are the exact opposite. They think they sing fantastic and it sucks so much! They sing all the time too! I just yell at them SHUT UP! D:<
