Picnics...picnics...picnics... Ahh. What could be better than eating out in the open surrounded by itchy grass and biting ants.
What could be better than arriving at the site your supposed to eat only to find out that it's closed for nearby construction? What could be better than discovering that -someone- brought an item that your allergic to?
What could be better than going out there, having the perfect meal set up, and have it all fancy like...only to find out that it's twenty below zero and you no one feels like freezing their tushes off?
xD;; Anyway. I've never been on a picnic. I had the idea of having a picnic sometime soon. :'O My problem is that it's been really really windy lately. And I live in an area that's almost constantly -hot- so this would be the perfect time of the year to have a picnic.
However...I've never had a picnic much less been to one. What does one -bring- to said picnic? What's needed? Do I need to pre-block off the area so that no hungry bears come by and eat everything all up? D:~ xD;; <3
So... discuss:
- Have you ever been on a picnic?
- What sort of foods do picnics usually have?
- How big does the blanket need to be if there's only a couple people?
- How the heck do we keep the food warm?
- What time of the day would be better for a picnic? Sunset or afternoon?
- Do we need...fire? Candles? Warmth?
- What sort of dessert should we have?
- Is bug spray needed? >>;; xD;;<3

Never been to a picnic, or ever going to have one either. Sure I eat outside, or while I'm out biking all bring a sandwich and sit under a shady tree and eat something, yet I don't consider that a picnic.

I havent been on a picnic since I was 8! D:
But I can remember how it went..
We at peanut butter sanwhiches and egg salad with soup. 8D
The soup got cold though..I dont think there is a physically possible way to keep your picnic food warm. D:
I like going for picnics around 11 o' clock. Nice and early. :3
Yurr..Candles or fires arent needed for my look on picnics. :/
Desert? COOKIES!! Durr. x3
I dont know why but I cant remember myself ever getting a mosquito bite..EVER. D:
I remember getting bit by a spider once..and maybe ONE mosquito bite that only lasted one night..but nope. Bugs just naturally dont bite me..:s
So I wouldnt bring spray. :3
Though..the thought of having to be around and look at bugs during the time I eat makes me sick. x.x
Id much rather be inside, away from those creepy crawlers and ants in your food. D:

I've been on a few picnics. Basically the best foods to eat are things you eat cold. Potato salad, coleslaw, fried chicken (yes cold), sandwiches, chips, and fruit are typical favorites. I always like to bring extra blankets for cuddling up if it gets chilly, but I get cold easily. ^^;
Basically the big things to remember are blankets, food, napkins, plates, utensils (if needed), drinks, and trash bags. Gotta remember to clean up afterwards to keep Mother nature happy!

I've never been to a real picnic, with the whole picnic basket and blanket on the ground with all the food out and stuff. I think it'd be awful cute to though..

I love picnics, even if it’s just in my side yard. My sister and I will go to some fast food place and go to the park for a picnic and eat it during the summer time. If it’s a large group of people potato salad and hot dogs work well, if you have a grill you can bring or one’s provided at the picnic spot. I also have brought cut up cheese cubes and apples, chips, and other stuff that doesn’t need to be kept cold.

I've never been on a picnic before but I have thought about having one a couple of times.
Then the thought of bugs everywhere and knowing me I'm constantly getting bitten by something, it didn't sound so great. lol.
But I think one day, just one day, I'll end up having/going to one. =]

- Have you ever been on a picnic?
Yep. Me and my bloke went up onto the moors and sat on one of the rocky overhangs with our feet dangling into the gorge. It was lovely. He ruined his shoes and I was shivering. It's a lot colder at the top of our hills than at the bottom :P
Oh my mum also used to take us to a park for picnics when we were little...
- What sort of foods do picnics usually have?
Sandwiches and then whatever the heck else you want. We had sandwiches, grapes, cookies, chips....
- How big does the blanket need to be if there's only a couple people?
You don't actually need a blanket... Big enough to sit on...
- How the heck do we keep the food warm?
You buy one of those packs that keeps hot hot and cold cold, but the whole point of picnics is that they're not hot/warm.
- What time of the day would be better for a picnic? Sunset or afternoon?
Whenever you feel like eating!
- Do we need...fire? Candles? Warmth?
If you want...
- What sort of dessert should we have?
Whatever you like...
- Is bug spray needed? >>;; xD;;<3
If you're likely to get bitten, yes. I never take any. I never get bitten.

My friend and I went on a picnic about 3 weeks ago before she left for university. Although the weather is not that fantastic and yes it was very cold and breezy we still sat outside on a rug on the floor and discussed life and ambitions whilst eating homemade prepared food.
There are no real specific rules to picnicking (sp?) just make sure you are prepared for most things such as; what do people like to eat/ drink? what do we eat on? what do you eat with? Where are you going to eat / sit? What are you going to sit on? e.g a rug or a picnic table. Does anyone have specific needs or allergies you need to be aware of. Most importantly what is PLAN B!!!
I brough tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juice, fizzy drinks, sandwiches, crisps, cakes, fruit....I can't remember the rest but it was pretty successful lol. Basically just bring food that is easy to prepare.
If your concerned about bugs then take bug spray, but i have never really had a problem with bugs whilst on a picnic so I dont bother lol.

I haven't gone to a picnic for years..... I remember that I hated it, though. And I don't think that I'd like one. Hooray for bugs and heat and wind.
Yea.

- Have you ever been on a picnic? Plenty of times, went on one a few days ago.
- What sort of foods do picnics usually have? Depends. When it's a familty picinic, it usually ends up as a BBQ. lol ._.
- How big does the blanket need to be if there's only a couple people? I have no idea, but there's a standard sized 'blanket'.
- How the heck do we keep the food warm? Uh, BBQ! xP
- What time of the day would be better for a picnic? Sunset or afternoon?
Afternoon, not as many bugs. o.o
- Do we need...fire? Candles? Warmth? No idea, take a battery powered lamp.
Over here, there are fire bans in picnic areas, so none of that stuff.
- What sort of dessert should we have? Whatever you feel like having. :B
- Is bug spray needed? >>;; xD;;<3
If you get swarms of bugs in your area then, why not.
Otherwise, don't bother. :]

I've been to a bunch of picnics.
We had all sorts of foods.
The type of food depended on the picnic though.
For Example: I'm asian and if my family had picnics, we'd serve noodles and other stuff most people wouldn't know about.
And in 5th grade we had school picnics. Which served pizza, milk, soda, and others.

- Have you ever been on a picnic?
Yes
- What sort of foods do picnics usually have?
finger foods, basically foods that you don't need cutlery or chopsticks to eat.
- How big does the blanket need to be if there's only a couple people?
as long as it fits the two people and the food it should be fine
- How the heck do we keep the food warm?
eh, you don't. Usually you bring food that doesn't need to be warm to taste good.
- What time of the day would be better for a picnic? Sunset or afternoon?
I'd say afternooon because if you eat at sunset chances are there'll be more bugs around.
- Do we need...fire? Candles? Warmth?
I don't think so.
- What sort of dessert should we have?
fairy bread...seriously though, just sweet finger foods, cupcakes, muffins, that sort of thing.
- Is bug spray needed?
depends on where and when you have your picnic there's a chance you may need it but also a chance that you won't.

Haha. Unfortunately, no. I live in southern Arizona.
I'm just... very opposed to the "Great Outdoors." xD;; And bugs tend to like latching onto my skin.
Ooh! Noodles?! I can bring noodles!? xD;; Yay! I was actually thinking of bring Fried Chicken and a pudding cup. xD;;<3

My grandma is having a picnic thing for Thanksgiving.
I ... don't really like picnics, myself, though; I wouldn't be able to tell you any answers to your questions.
Bug spray would probably be a good idea, though.
> o>
Usually, and maybe this is just me, but the picnics I go to are at parks that have those big concrete tables with benches.
I'd try to find one of those, if I were you.

Sometimes we eat outside during lunch.
That's our picnic.
In all seriousness, when I was little, my best friend's mom was one of those crafty, happy, let's-do-something-fun! mothers. So we would, on occasion, go out to the park for an old-fashioned picnic. We had baskets, blankets, picnic hats, and everything. It was fun when I was little, but I don't know if I'd particularly enjoy it now.
