- The person using chatspeak are absolutely lazy?
Or they haven't figure out yet that it isn't cool. Whichever explanation works for me.

- Iâve never understood it either. I can understand the simple Acronyms like âBrbâ and âWtfâ, but not the full on chat speak. I have no idea what is going on in the heads of the people writing like that because it DOESNâT make them look cool at all. On the contrary, they look like idiots or somebody who just fell over and had a seizure on the keyboard D=.
Also⌠when I ask they tell me because itâs faster to write that way⌠now...v. doesnât it actually seem HARDER to write:
âLoL U nO I WuLd TTLY Do It 4 U L8Terâ
Then it is to write:
âLol. You know I would totally do it for you later.â
D=⌠*DIES*
I remember when I use to be a TA in a English class back in high school. Somebody turned in a complete essay using chat speak X_X.

What do you think of chatspeak?
It's bull. D: I can understand saying LOL or BRB because those are actual used words, but spelling words incorrectly on purpose like: "kl" or "wtevr" or "ur so annoyn" is totally self-disgracing and I laugh at you! D<
Do you use it, or would you ever use it?
Ive used is once when I was practically falling asleep at my computer from fatigue..
I'll use LOL or LMAO or TTYL but never would I use shortcut wording in any other form. :/
How many of your friends use it?
Too many.
I'd say 2/3's of my friends type horribly. D;
Why do you think people use it?
The only reason I can picture MYSELF using it is from exhaustion, or crampy fingers..
Some people do it to act 'cool'. I don't think its cool. You're not cool. D:
Also, they could just be LAZY. :3

Personally, chat speak is one of the most annoying things in the world for me. o_o; It's not that difficult to type out your words... Unless your fingers are broken or horribly cramped for some reason. >_O Then I understand... But doing it out of sheer laziness? That's a no-no. D:<
When people talk to me using chat speak, it makes me feel as though I'm not really worth their time. Thankfully, all of my friends are literate. <3 The only time I have to deal with chat speakers is when I make roleplays... Sometimes I get a few.. well, just flat-out unacceptable profiles. >_O Either they have horrible grammar, or, one of the things that really gets on my nerves -- they don't capitalize the letter 'I' when referring to themselves. @[email protected];
I actually used to use chat speak when I first joined Gaia, but after, what, not even a week, I realized that people liked it more when I typed out my words (this was like, three years ago~ xD). I actually got my friends into the habit of typing literately. xD Yay, go me!

Ugh... Chatspeak. I used to use it. Actually, I didn't even note the transition I made between typing like "lmmfao omg lik totly u rok" and actually typing out my words. Years back I used to think it was totally cool to use chatspeak, faster replies and a lot less keyboarding. I started talking to some friends online, friends who typed out their words, and eventually I developed their typing habits and literacy. As of now, I can not understand chatspeak (simple things like 'brb' and 'omg' excluded) so therefore I rarely use it. Why not type out your words, it makes you look way more intelligent. =o

What do you think of chatspeak? I don't really like chatspeak. I find it silly and annoying.
Do you use it, or would you ever use it? No I don't use chatspeak. But I have a good find that does it.
How many of your friends use it? My good friend uses leet speak because he found out that it drives people nuts.
Why do you think people use it? I know people use alot of leet speak in World of Warcraft because that way they can talk to both parties.

I only use 'lol' and stuff like that.
I guess they think it's 'faster.' I think
actually typing out the words is just as
fast, depending on how fast you type.

I think people use it because they think it's 'cool'. Personally, I always type out my words, and get on my friend's cases if they don't when talking to me. Because, some people think that it's 'nerdy' to type out your vowels, apparently. Well, in my opinion, look at the real world! Most successful people type out their words, no?
I think chatspeak's just some people's way of showing the world how 'cool' they are, but it's just annoying, and, at times, hard to read. And really, does it really take that long to type out your words? I guess the world will never know.

Hmm...that's an interesting question.
I think chatspeak is a lot easier to write that normal speech. It's sort of like a speak for lazier people. Soon, people get into a habit of it, and end up using it all time.
I believe that chatspeak is also used when people text. I find it hard to text message someone, and chatspeak could be used just because its shorter and stuff.

Bleck.
Chatspeak makes my eyes twitch. Honestly, people should type out their words.
Maybe then they'd have better grammar and spelling abilities in real life.
I don't see the big deal with taking an extra ten seconds to type out your words.

I can't understand chatspeak, and I've attempted to type in it, only to find it takes me much longer. It also affects how people write in schools and for work. Maybe not for everyone, but definitely for the people I've met.
I don't understand what is so bad about typing out the full words in a coherent sentence. If you practice that, you can often learn to type quickly and efficently. It may not mean much until you apply for college or a job to type correctly and fast, but until then, the practice can't hurt.

I think if you type that way too much, you'll lose your grasp of the English Language... and that'll bite you in the butt when you have to write an essay.
Though, if English is someone's second language, I can understand why they type that way.

Well. Apparently it's cool to sit around and make yourself look like an utter and complete moron? Or maybe some people are trying to commit a noble act of charity by trying to make the real stupid people feel special and not alone. Not that it needs to be done, considering there are a lot of them in the world.
Actually, most people are just lazy.
Personally, I'd rather not make myself look stupid. There's nothing wrong with typing intelligently. Besides, menewsha doesn't reward laziness! Actually spelling out your words in the way to go if you want to gain gold. :3

hmm i don't use chatspeak much,
but i can understand why someone would use it if they were texting someone, or in a hurry.
and the odd word shortened in their own quirky way is fine, and i dont mind them missing capital letters or full stops or what not.
but it does annoy me when they shorten almost every word all the time just because they feel like it.
i'd like to be able to read it without having to dechiper some magic code. especially if its short words like you've mentioned such as 'you' or 'right' :/
Oh well i guess to each its own.

I can't stand it. I really can't. I don't see how it's that much faster. I actually type a lot faster when I'm not using it. And every time I talk like that (usually mocking someone), my fingers itch to type and spell properly.
People are just too lazy, I guess. Or not good in English class.

I am no grammer nazi but I hate it when people use chatspeak, even in chatrooms. But my most hated grammer error is when people use "i" instead of "I." It's ok if they do it on accident but if they do it everytime I just want to chew them out for it.
However I used to use chatspeak aobut 2 years ago. I used to think that that's how everyone used to type. I then took a typing class and found it annoying to use and started on the path to becomeing litterate. I still have a way's to go but at least people can read this and understand it.

I use chatspeak alot. Mainly on msn, or texting friends.
It's easier to use and quicker. And plus I find it amusing sometimes....
I don't use chatspeak on forums - except words like "rofl" "lol" "brb" etc...

I hate chat-speak, honestly. I mean, I type fast with normal and average words. I get so annoyed (pet-peeve) if someone can't spell all their words right and use proper grammar (., ?, capitalized). I mean, I'm not saying to be perfect, but have that spell-check on your computer to be on. You can take time and actually do it, it's nothing personal. I honestly think chat-speak takes longer. Yet, I also hate people who Do This All The Time. I Mean, What's The Point Of It? Or !! or ?? or ?!?!?!?! Just need one, dangit.
I'll even time myself. xD
I'm going to type this sentence:
THE EAGLE FLIES HIGH IN THE SKY.
EXAMPLE ONE: GOOD:
The eagle flies high in the sky.
10 seconds.
EXAMPLE TWO: BAD:
the eagle flies high in the skyy
11 seconds. (HAHA.)
EXAMPLE THREE: HORRIBLE:
teeh egle fles hi in teh ski
30 seconds.
I can't even read what I wrote, I mean, seriously. I just hate it.
Never done it, never will. What stays in the chat, stays in the chat.

Most people use it like in texting because it save more time and more space to add more or that there own way and lang. they want to type. For me I use both. Long typing or short type. For me I love short time like "btw" , "brb", "lol" etc and my bf do the same. Lots of people find it more easy but others dont understand it. ^^;

I think that Mene's idea to hand out larger amounts of gold to longer posts is a great idea, it makes people type out their words.
I haven't even bothered to venture into any of Gaia's forums for months. I strictly stay in my guilds now.
