Ok cows. You're freaking me out.

I'm sitting here lurking like normal, and my windows open. I can hear the cows mooing at the beef processing plant. It's freaking me out. I can't hear them! I can't think about how something was alive next time I eat a steak! I even closed my window but I can still hear the cows!

T.T I need to go take a shower and put some music on.

So, does it creep you out when you think about what you just ate used to be alive? Or am I pretty weird?

Do you ever stop eating something for awhile because you've seen that particular animal, or petted that particular animal?

(Yeah, I've done both).

I freaked out once while eating fish. My boyfriend has this really great fresh water set up going, and I was fine to munch away until he started talking about his fish and how much personality they had and what not. D:

After that I felt really bad for eating something I considered a family pet.

I don't generally think about it .. but then I've been partly raised on a farm where my uncle does have cows for meat. So I'm sorta used to the fact that the animal has been killed.

I remember one time my Aunt had teased me when he made us steak and she's like 'Did you see that one legged cow out there?' when I replied no she had replied, 'Oh, but it's what we're eating.'

I was rather wondering what I should say until she said she was just teasing me. Since I was young I was strongly against animal abuse.. and leaving a cow with only three legs certainly falls under it. xD

See, but you'd be used to it. I was this little city girl with parents who sheltered me. XD I loved farms though, but I never went to any that raised cows. Saw a lot of cows driving because even though I live in a city, I live in a smaller Kansas city and well...we still have some stereotype to us. But, I never thought about it. It wasn't until I started thinking about it that I was like...wait a minute...omg!

Because all my life I've driven past this plant, seen the cows. Wasn't until I got older that I was like...those cows are going to get slaughtered!

>.<

Like eating a shrimp..

Which still had eyes..

I couldn't stand it. I bore up, though.

Then my dad remarked that they were all probably pregnant, hence the little round pink things on it's stomach.

I threw up. >.<

Thunder 10-17-2007 02:00 PM

I've pretty much come to terms that I'm eating cute little animals. However, if someone told me I had to eat a cow that I actually knew before they cooked it, I don't think I'd be able to do that. In fact, I'd probably throw up when they set it on the table.

My family is mean though. They're the kind of people that if you say you like cows or something, every time someone cuts a piece of meat they'll let out this sickly sounding 'moooooo.' It's horrible. xD

This makes me think of Silence of the Lambs, when she was all freaking out about the Lambs.

And no, I don't think about it. I hear a cow moo, no big deal, it would annoy me to think that they're that noisy that I could hear them through my window though. I'd be happy when they were slaughtered in that case, I love my sleep. To be disturbed = death.

Atreyu 10-17-2007 02:08 PM

That's rather interesting.

Do you ever hear a noise for a long period of time, then all of a sudden it's gone and then throughout the day, you can still here it even though it's not there anymore?

Uzura 10-17-2007 02:09 PM

Last night my friend invited me to a club meeting of hers. They had lots of BBQ, so I started eating some pulled-pork. Then I stopped eating as I realized that it was an animal rights club I was at. Everyone was eating meat...at an animal rights club. When I commented about it, one of the girls told me that they supported more domestic animals like cats and dogs. So eating pigs and cows so perfectly alright there xD

Atreyu 10-17-2007 02:12 PM

Ahaha. That is a tad funny.
But that's good.

Captain Aamelia 10-17-2007 02:19 PM

Yep, many years ago.. The owner of the stable where we used to have our horses once brought two pigs there. I was quite young then and I loved those pigs, they were so funny :P But one day when we got to the stable there were two huge blood pools right outside the stable door.. After that I stoped eating pigs meat for a while

And I don't eat horse meat either.. You might be able to guess why :?

Atreyu 10-17-2007 02:21 PM

I've never eaten horse meat. What is it like?
But I still eat meat. I tried to be vegetarian but it only lasted for a month or so. My mother then purchased a new grill over the summer and I am forced to cook any type of meat on it a few times a week.

It's rather annoying. But oh well.
The only meat I don't eat are anchovies and hot dogs.

Titenya 10-17-2007 02:25 PM

It dose freak me out some times... but then if you think about it in the wild animals eat eachother to live all the time. My cat trys to catch birds (luckily there is a window in the way) and i've seen a hawk catch a chipmunk once, probably going to feed it to her babies.

Also, I'm also afriade of cows... when i was little we went to an ice-cream festaval down on Boston Common, the money was doanted to one of the local cahrites i thiink the Jimmy Fund or something... and they had cows there in pens and i reached to pet one, i was like 4, so i was on my dad's shoulders, and the cow started to lick my hand it really scared me and i've never like them since

zumbie 10-17-2007 02:26 PM

3: I like cows. They're pretty unless they're dirty.

Atreyu 10-17-2007 02:28 PM

I saw an owl consume mice.
And a snake engulf an entire white rabbit on a trampoline.

Good stuff. =D

Poor animals, but it's their way of surviving.

Captain Aamelia 10-17-2007 02:29 PM

Are you asking a person who doesn't eat horse meat what it tastes like?? :? :P

Atreyu 10-17-2007 02:30 PM

Yes. She never said that she has never eaten horse meat. She just said she doesn't eat horse meat.

Plus if she works with them, she might have heard someone talk about the taste and what not.

Shirololi 10-17-2007 02:34 PM

To be honest, it never creeps me out. It just tastes too good! I know I sound unsympathetic towards the animals, but my stomach rules over my conscience at times >.>

Atreyu 10-17-2007 02:36 PM

When I eat meat, I feel guilty for like 10 seconds and how bad I SHOULD feel for eating what I would be eating. But then I just blink at my food, chew and swallow and live on with my life again.

Sarahblu18 10-17-2007 02:37 PM

im not sure if this helps or has anything other than death in common with your thread.. but...

when my grandma died and i went to her funeral, it was open casket..
a few days later when i went back to work, i walked by her house and thought i should say hi, but then i remembered... =,(

it hurts.

Im sure its hard for you to hear the animals crying (mooing) and thinking about their fate/near future.

Captain Aamelia 10-17-2007 02:39 PM

It was me you were talking to :) And no I have never eaten horse meat, what I can remeber, so I don't know what it tastes like.

Ruui 10-17-2007 02:41 PM

Everytime I wat Hot Dogs,I freak out.
The thought of eating "everything" is just plain gross. Dx

Atreyu 10-17-2007 02:44 PM

Oh okay.

Lately I've been REALLY into eating sushi. God. It's sooooo good. C:

Alcoholic Lollypop 10-17-2007 02:46 PM

Hmmm... makes me think of the silence of the lambs... I wouldn't be eating cow if there was a murder plant near me. I'm already traumatized by the cruel ways my stepmother used to slaughter mice by using those traps that make the mice stick to them, while the mother screams for her children's lives... slowly starving and thirsting to death... *shudders*

Atreyu 10-17-2007 02:47 PM

All this talk of food is making me hungry.
I have lunch in 6 minutes.

Hell yeah!
