Odd Fruit Names
What kind of fruits have you encounter with a strange name? My friend was talking about choking berries, and that they literally choke you when you eat them. But if you bake them in pies or something, it's fine. You won't choke. xD I went to a market one day, and I saw this odd look fruit and I looked at the name and it said, 'Nipple Fruit'. I was like X.x, gross, who would want to eat that. :lol: |
Pomegranate.
O.o WTF? It always makes me think of vomit, or something along the lines. I agree, however, about nipple fruit. x.x |

Mangosteens are weird looking fruits xDD
Someone mentioned it to me once and I was like "You mean MANGO?" and they were like "NO, MANGSOSTEEN. -googles it-". And I just ended up looking like this: :oops: |

In chinese, a lot of fruits have weird names...
but since we're probably talking about 'in english' Persimmons. For some reason, almost nobody has eaten or heard of it even though it's really good - At Publix grocery store once, my mom got them free (even though they usually costs a lot) because the cashier rung it up as 'red tomatoes' but it obviously wasn't and nobody at the store knew what it was called. My parents then came home and asked me what the english was for it. It sounds like the name is 'sizzling' to me and reminds me of the word 'permission' so I remembered it (the name doesn't match the fruit at all, too) I've ate gummi candy that's Muskat flavored... anyone know what that is?? It's green... looks like grape... bought them at an oriental market. O.o |

Fruit.
XD OMG. The nipple fruit makes me laugh so much. Both the name and the what it looks like. That's crazy! I don't think I'd ever heard of it before now. XD Anyway, someone on another forum once posted a picture of an ad in a newspaper advertising that they were selling crapfruit. XD I was like, "I wouldn't eat anything called crapfruit!" But I'm pretty sure it was a typo for grapefruit. If there's a fruit out there actually named crapfruit that would be pretty strange... Still, I'm not sure how they got crapfruit out of grapefruit. XD Also, not really a weird name for fruit, but my boyfriend started saying "pinapo" instead of pineapple... XD I thought it was funny and cute.

The strangest fruit I had ever seen, well its a toss up between Custard Apples and Australian Passionfruit.
Custard Apples are about the size of a small ball, thick green skin with these tiny black nipple like bumps all over the the skin. And Australian Passionfuit, looks like a deflated mango. Also Kiwis, not completely odd. But I haven't been able to look at them the same way since reading a line in a story where they are refered to as the fruit that looked like a certain part of the male anatomny. |
Passion fruit is awesome. And pomagranates taste very good, the seeds can get annoying, though.

Strawberries are kinda weird. I when i was little i thought that they made straws xD But iunno any really weird fruits...

I love the Spanish name for custard apples - guanabana. Like a banana made of guano.
My favorite strange fruit is something called an ugli fruit. Supposedly it's a mutant grapefruit. It's disgusting looking, and pretty much has an average citrus taste. |

A star fruit has perfectly star-shaped five-pointed slices when you cut it sideways. Before cutting, it looks like a banana with anorexia. The Spanish name is carambola. They're a tropical fruit, but you can grow them as far north as Georgia. I can't quite explain the taste (apple/pineapple/grape?), can you??

Pomegranates have weird names, but they're awesome. I don't know any other weird fruit that I can think of right now. >>
