That is absolutely crazy. O_o I'm totally baffled.
I remember when I was a kid, there were these little purple and white flower weed thingers that were kind of sweet and I'd nibble on the little petaly things. XD But actually eating dandelions... as a grown adult?! That's insane. Are there even dandelions around right now? The last time I saw them were in early to mid summer? Right now everything is dying here (unless you're in Australia or somewhere that has a warmer climate XD) |

I wanna try nettle soup ._. Is it good? :]
|
I've had dandelion leaves in my salads before. It's in there a lot now that I actually think about it. O_o Never bugged me I guess. Tastes a bit bitter, but most dark greens do. You don't even notice it if you have a vinaigrette to go with it.

YOUR MOM DIDNT TAKE HER DANDELIONS TODAY.
My peeps tell me to drink dandelion tea. its much easier to do so : D |

When I was a kid I used to eat tulip leaves from my aunts backyard.. They tasted like lettuce..
I know I was a weird kid :P But I have never tried dandelions.. Lucky for me my mom doesn't belive in home remedies :D |
My mother has tried to get us to eat some really weird herbal things, but never dandelions. That's a new one for me.
|
Okay...Dandelions? Ew.
I know that dandelions were used for sourcrout back in the day...maybe that's what she's intending them for? *shudder* But sourcrout is still foul. |
Normally my mom just makes us chicken noodle soup when anyone gets sick >.>
|
Dandelions are great. Mostly as tea. But they are.
|
id eat a dandilion if someone gave me 5 bucks :]
|
Dandelion weeds?
OMG whos idea was to eat them i mean i sure wouldnt it could have had a slug or a snail or a ladybird or a worm or a bird or woodlouse or a spider or a daddy long legs or a bee or a wasp or a... in other words an animal has been on it they even colud of had sex on it lol(ewwwww) :? |
Oh! I was flipping the channels last year, and they have a dandelion eating contest! Where they eat the yellow flower part. It was so gross looking, but its suppose to be really healthy. I'm curious to try it, but not that curious. XD
|
Eeeewww, dandelions? Seriously, who in their right mind would eat dandelions outright? Drinking dandelion tea may be feasible, but this definitely isn't. And my peers were criticising me for eating "weird" food like sushi and ramen...
|
I read a book once in which a character ate dandelions. . . and she hated them. . . I personally would not eat dandilions if you payed me. . .
|
o_O; I'm known to be able to eat almost anything, but that's where I'd draw the line as well. ._.; Poor you!
|
in a weird way, that actually seems pretty good..... i pick mint leaves outside and i eat/chew on them a lot.. and i ate grass before.. i think dandelions would taste better..... but hey.. a weed just could do the trick...... nature works funny like that =D
|
That actually doesn't sound like such a bad idea to me...unless your backyard was recently sprayed with insecticide or something. That would be pretty bad.
But seriously, humans lived by foraging for a looooooooong time. I think it's safe to eat something from your backyard as long as it's been prepared properly. |

It may sound weird but they are actually edible.
Some stores actually sell the leaves for salads. Hearing that I was thinking 'Well why don't they just pick 'em from their yard?' and it looks like someone (your mom) already has. X'D As far as the immune system thing, I don't know, but good luck with all your other home remidies. Everyones font reminds me of my font. ='x |
My uncle used to make dandelion wine. Crushed the leaves and then let them ferment. It was some sick stuff. They never should have given him that wine-making kit for Christmas. One year he tried making wine from prunes. It actually worked, though it tasted like sucking on a copper penny. Also, it was definitely a laxative.
Anyways, he always said that you should be careful when picking dandelions. He said to only use the little leaves that are light green, because the full-grown leaves are so bitter that they can mess with your stomach by making it too alkaline, which wrecks your stomach acids. And he claimed that the stems were mildly toxic, like someone else said here. My mom always used dandelions as a cure for stomach problems. She said that it would even cure an ulcer. Ironically, there are alternative health practitioners who sell high priced veggie drinks which are made alkaline on purpose, for just that reason. So I guess that there was some scientific sense behind the old wives' tales. I have a mixed-lettuce garden, and many of the "spring greens" are just as bitter as young dandelions. Another irony: people pay $4.00 for a bag of stuff that is just as nasty tasting as the weeds that they pull up from their yards! |
