How sick do I have to be in order to miss school? With my mom? Coma or chicken pox. :x

Chicken pox because it's soo highly contagious, I think it's illegal to go to school with it. x_x Not to mention you'll probably be too itchy to concentrate on anything. I had it around when I was in first grade, and man, that was one GREAT school-less week!! ^w^

Coma since I'll be knocked out anyway. It's like murder/suicide if you don't go to the hospital for this one.

My mom is really strict and wants me to go to school all the time. @[email protected] I rarely ever stay home because of any illness. But right now, I don't really want to. In every class, we learn soo much and take soo much notes that if I miss a day, I'll end up with like an 'F' on the next test or quiz. Having someone to call as backup doesn't help either since I learn auditorily and I need to hear it being said. Me saying it myself doesn't help either. In addition to that, the notes the teacher gives us are very vague, and often times, even those his notes are a page long, mine takes three because of all the details he says aloud.

I wait until I pass out before I stay home from school. I like the idea of getting everyone else sick XD

ElendarSilvermoon 10-24-2007 01:16 AM

Depends on what classes I have that day and such. If it's a music class I'll try to go unless I'm just sick and tired and falling asleep wherever I stand or sit still for a bit. If I'm tired and know that I won't be able to wing it through a 3-hour lecture about non-music stuff I'll just stay home and sleep a few more hours and work on music, or flomp on one of the many couches here at the college and go in for the second half of class.

I try and miss school whenever I have an assignment or homework due.

I'm lazee and procrastinate daily. [;

Except on tuesdays,I try to never miss them for I like my classes on tuesdays.

suppi 10-24-2007 01:32 AM

I hate being sick... D8 When I am, I'll miss school..when I miss school, I'll have a lot of make-up work to do. ><;
I rarely skip school though.. or more like, I go to school even when I'm sick, and if I feel really horrible during class or something, I leave..

Baja 10-24-2007 01:33 AM

<.< I'd have to be like, in the hospital.
I'm famous for trying to go to work with a fever. Once I even went while I had tonsillitis.
(yes, my tonsils were still in my throat at the time. Actually, they're still in there now, I didn't have them taken out.) x.x

Sometimes there are huge firestorms that make me skip school.
D: I mean I don't even need to be sick.
Some people have snowdays, I just happen to have "OMG EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE RUN!" days.

  • It takes a hell of a lot to get me to miss one or both of my classes. School is something that’s extremely important to me and I don’t want to screw up. I made a personal vow/promise to myself the first day of college. I told myself and my friend out loud that I’ll even tread through hell to get to class. The only three things that can possibly stop me from going would be.

    1. Family Death
    2. Taking my Dad to Chemotherapy.
    3. Coughing up, or vomitting blood.

Little did I know then I was setting a freaking goal =/.

My grandpa passed away last month, so I missed a day there. I missed half a day since I had to take my dad to the city for chemo and got stuck on traffic on the way back, then I just finished missing a whole week of school do to getting pneumonia. I was coughing so hard that the smaller blood vessels on my lungs were bursting…so I was… well… vomiting/coughing blood xD.

No more blood in my coughing now, and I went to class this morning with a 101.4 temp.

    Determination. Cha, cha, cha.

With school, anything made me want to stay home. Minor headaches, nausea, stuffed up nose and sore throat, cramps, etc. It's hard to concentrate when all you want to do is curl up into a ball and go to sleep, how are you going to learn and remember anything? I usually didn't get to stay home though, unless it was something serious or I had one of those stupid anxiety attacks that messed up two school years. If it was the day of something important though, the only reason I'd miss it is if I or someone I really cared about was in the hospital.

I don't have a full time job yet, but I imagine it would be pretty much the same. As long as I was sure that I could drive and function properly, along with not puking every time I ate something, I'd go in. Gotta have the money, man.

Ithlia 10-24-2007 01:52 AM

It all depends on what's going on during school for that day. If something cool is happening, which happens once in a blue moon, then I'll go to school no matter how sick I am. But normally if I'm not feeling well enough to walk around for about four minutes, then I don't go to school as long as I get the "O.k" from my mom.

phrank 10-24-2007 02:17 AM

Well, I usually get violently ill,
because I'm lactose intolerant.
And usually I just stuff my pockets with tums and man up.
But, it's gotten to a point where I can't move without puking, so, then I stay home.
For obvious reasons.

Kaderin Triste 10-24-2007 02:22 AM

I either have to be throwing up, or very contagious as in like mono.

Jadyalyn 10-24-2007 03:48 AM

I go to school no matter my condition but I usually go home with that condition because it worsens since I stree my body out at school .. yeah I get sick easily

b-ooger 10-24-2007 03:56 AM

I have to be hacking out a lung. Or vommiting. Or something around there. That or I have to "skip" to watch my sister when she is sick. Which is pretty bad since she is a brat when she is sick. the other one just watches T.V. when she is sick. So it's pretty easy. What sucks is I usually miss ALOT of homework and I dun get paid. I usually try not to skip school, because I miss to much. Like this week I had to watch my sister for 2 days. and I missed a stack of papers in science. Litterally. it was like 8 papers or so of work. and that doesnt count the reading. and I have a test on friday on all the work I missed.

Donna 10-24-2007 04:02 AM

  • For me, it really depends on what's going on that day. If I know there's something really important that I can't miss, I have to be paralyzed or dying. But if it's any random day, I just have to be in the "I feel like shit" mood.

Spencer 10-24-2007 07:00 AM

I'm home schooled, it's not really
an option for me but before I was
in this program it didn't take much
for me to be able to stay home.

Komitadjie 10-24-2007 07:04 AM

Dead. Dead would be how sick I'd need to be to skip classes / work. I guess my brain just does not let me leave things like that behind to well, it keeps nagging at me that I should be there.

.Pixie Dust. 10-24-2007 07:30 AM

my parents would kill me if they heard this. i stay at home "sick" all the time and they still dont know. i dont have to be sick coz i am a good actress hehe

neur0mancer 10-24-2007 11:48 AM

Currently, it depends on whether mom thinks I'm sick enough or not. Whenever I show signs of sickness, or bring them to her attention in some cases, she passes her judgement all over me. :<
If I argue her, uh, "diagnosis", I get yelled at. So im better off just taking it. D:
Sometimes it ends up with me staying home when I have a cold, sometimes with me going when I'm vomiting up everything in my stomach. D:

I want to go as often as I can though- that way I can exempt more exams, not to mention theres nothing to do when I'm home. I'm always bored. When I take a walk I get brought back to the police station for insubordination. (Which happened, once. I was taking a walk cause I needed some fresh air, and the police station didn't believe I was sick JUST because I was outside. Kind of like how mom sometimes REFUSES to acknowledge stomach sickness if I'm hungry. :? )

although im not really a fan of studying, but i came to school every single day...just to have a full attendance...i dont know how stupid that action would be, although i almost gave up a few times but i almost did it..i only have a month left to go to school.. last year, i skipped school for 1 day, because i have to ( my mum told me it was holiday, when it actually was not ) hehe...

i felt quite bored for doing it alone actually...because MOST of my classmates , though we're from the first class, the class attendance are hardly to get full...its always like 5 people didnt came and such..and among those 5 people, most of them are my closest classmates... XD i experienced such life for about 3 years... haih , glad that it would end soooooon XD

Sagitar 10-24-2007 12:14 PM

well I'm not currently studying anything, but I would stay home if I felt like I was too tired and unable to concentrate or even go to school..

woopdidoodoo 10-24-2007 12:17 PM

I generally have to be pretty sick before I even think about taking a day off work. I hate work but it brings in my money which equals an actual life for me so yea but apart from that school is different coz they aint paying me to attend that are they?

Shiho 10-24-2007 12:53 PM

I don't have to be ill at all. I can stay home when I feel like it for school. Reasons for this is because no matter how many days of school I miss, I will automatically come back knowing what we're doing, and do the work without a problem because of how easy my classes are. I can't really say anything for work, as I don't have a job.

PixelBabii 11-04-2007 07:08 AM

Well I am home schooled so I don't
have to literally go to school. But
I use to not attend school when I didn't
feel well. Like if I had the flu or a cold
or was nauseous, I wouldn't go. If I can't
focus on what I am doing, I won't learn
anything. So I see no point in going if I
can't concentrate because I'm in pain.

inseCuREly 11-04-2007 07:12 AM

Wellll... it really depends on the next school day, for me. Like... past years, I would have felt just a little sick/tired and I would stay home for the day, or half a day, depending. This year... I have to go to school even if I have a bad cold for a week T___T For this semester, anyway. We take notes almost every day, and in my Chemistry class we get a quiz almost every day D: Also, we can't make up tests if we miss the day unless we have a valid reason.

My math teacher said that, for us to miss the midterm on monday, we'd have to be in the hospital. @[email protected]

...Speaking of tests on monday... I need to study for my chem test xD; Can't wait for the slack classes next sem...
