Hmm. Looked it up in a dictionary, and a lot of them do seem to think gender is synonymous with sex. So I suppose you're right. *shrug*
Still, I've always felt it's handy to have separate words for your biological set-up and your social role or mental identification. Helps to be able to tell these things apart.
