Right now I'm majoring in environmental science. I plan on doing an education after degree though, so I can become a teacher.
Thus far I think I've changed my major about 3 times. I was in atmospheric science, then I was an earth science major (and yes there is a difference between earth and environmental), then I was a social science major (yay arts), and now I'm back to science with the environmental. At this rate I'm never going to get a degree. |
What grade do you want to teach?
Well, as long as, in the end, you're doing what you like, and it makes you happy, it shouldn't matter how long it takes for you to get a degree, yeah? |
I'm in my first half of my second year (out of three) at University.
I'm not sure what I'm majouring in but the progam's called "Multimedia: media-pedagogics". So we basically combine studies with pedagogics and multimeda (the course we're stating tomorrow will be abpout analyzing and re-creating small objects from World of Warcraft, for example). I'll be a "multimedia-educationalist" or something like that when I'm done. Whatever that means, even our teachers doesn't really seem to be sure. I'll probably have to learn to program in java before I'll be able to search for a job afterwards. XD |
What is pedagogics?
I love video games! haha I don't play Warcraft, though. So your around the video game atmosphere? ^^ |
Computer Engineering.
Computer Engineers make Hardware and software. That can also be classified as CRT's (Computer repair technicians) and Software Engineers and Hardware Developers. It's basically the Swiss Army Knife of Computing. Not only that, but I've been working with computers for 11 years now (Since I was 7 :O) Computers are an easy fix, but an even easier kill. |
@darkvineyard: Dragonforce is a boring power metal band which for some reason has gained popularity in recent years. Their music is typically comprised of seven-ish minute long guitar solos, which are generally sped up in the studio to sound faster than they actually are.
I could go on but that's a rant more suited for the music forums. >.> To answer your other question, Howard Shore composed the music for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, amazing music if you've not heard it yet. Gary Stadler does celtic/new age inspired stuff, much of which is based around stories of faeries and that sort of thing. Elvendrums is along the same lines as Gary Stadler, but they add african tribal and middle eastern drumming into the mix. Tuomas Holopainen is the keyboardist/main songwriter for the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. |
Pedagogics is... the study of how people learn. :3
I haven't played WoW for ages (I prefer free games) but it's part of the course. I'm in the in-between, one could say. It's not about the video-game but how people use them. And what they might learn from them. Usually we mostly talk about how people can participate in courses through the Internet (distance learning) but I much rather prefer talking about video-games and such. One of my courses was about forums so I could use Menewsha as an example. XD |

@Youn: People don't learn from WoW... ._. They might learn what an Instance is, and how money works, but they don't really take it with them. Some WoW players are the stupidest fucks on earth. Also, don't take this to heart, but WoW is a relatively easy game. All you really have to do is stay out of neutral and enemy territory. And If you can't avoid them (When you're doing a raid or something) you're always with a group of 15-20 people, so it doesn't matter. |
@Procreating Satan - I'm like you, but only in the aspect that you've worked with computers since you were seven. I've been with computers since I was around that age, maybe 11, I don't really remember. ^^;;
But yeah, my mom is always asking me for help when something goes wrong with the computer. ^^ But that's the money-maker job, yeah? ^^ haha @ElendarSilvermoon - Oh. I'm most definitely not a fan of metal </3, that's for certain! xDD hahaha @Youn - Oh, okay. Menewsha is the best place to be if you want to chat in the forums. It's not like Gaia, where the forums are filled with spam and crap. xDD I want to ask you what video games you play, but this isn't the forum to discuss that. ^^;; @Shrii - Oh wow, cancer research. That's big. ^^ |
Computer engineering isn't exactly a money job yet... Unless you own firedog or GeekSquad.
In the coming years (10-20years), oh yeah. Computer Engineering will be bigger. Waaay Biggers. By the rate of Americans getting computer, almost every American with a job will be able to afford one, and will probably have on. And about 80% of them will be connected to the internet. The computer is spreading faster than electricity did. It's kinda exciting when you have my mentality on computers. |
@Procreating Satan: I mostly just dislike them for their lack of musical creativity. There's only so much you can to with speed and fretboard wankery, after that it just gets boring. I prefer guitarists like Luca Turilli (Rhapsody of Fire) who make their solos part of the music instead of just making an album comprised of a bunch of boring and uncreative wankery.
|
@Procreating Satan - I'm pretty sure that your mentality on computers is, although similar, much more expansive than mine! xD
|
I'm a Mechanical Engineering major, with a specialty in Manufacturing. I love designing something, then actually making it, so it's more or less a natural field for me to get into.
|
It's always exciting to do something that comes natural to you, yeah? I should know. Photography just comes natural to me. ^^;
|
I love photography, it's one of my more favoured hobbies, but I don't think I could make a living at it. That's not to say that I might not try to use it to make money on the side some time. xD
|
Photography is a great hobby. I just decided to make it my life. *big grin*
I narrowed it down to Still Photography for the movies or Crime Scene Photography for the Police Dep't. I'm leaning more towards Still Photography as of right now, but I'm still torn between the two. ^^;; |
I plan on going to college in order to get a Master's degree in Accounting, and then after that I plan on either finding an agricultural business to work for, or see if I can get into Disney. I'd love to be hired by Disney... <3
But yes, Accounting. I wasn't sure until this year... I was thinking "something math" and then "agricultural economics" but that didn't turn out to be what I thought it was, so I just decided that Accounting was really easy for me and my father is an accountant, so why not? Plus there aren't that many students going into the field right now, so there's a huge want... meaning I'll be paid a bunch once I get my degree. |

And how is your brother fairing with it? Does he like what he's doing so far? |
@Moonlight Silver - o: Disney!! <3 hahaha
That would be cool if they hired you! haha @Midnight Blaze - Yeah, he does. He's only a freshman though. I'm actually not sure what kind of graphic design he wants to do. I don't think he decided yet, or he may have told me, but I forget. *sheepish* |
I am freshman in college and i have no idea what i would like to major in. Although i do think i am about to minor in music.
|
Could you elaborate? What kind of music? ^^
|
I'd definitely go with still photography, Dark. If nothing else, the hours for a crime scene photographer suck. Having to get up at three AM to go take pictures of where some drunk fell off a building is not really my idea of an ideal job. 'Sides, the lighting probably always sucks.
|
Call me Vinny. ^^ Someone else on Mene is called Dark, and I like that name anyways. *cheeky grin*
I agree with that, the hours are pretty sucky. Well, they give you special camera's for that, yeah? Or rather, they tell you what kind of camera to get, and you buy it. ^^ |
@Mirith: If you don't seem to be able to find a major that you'd like and you enjoy the music, then you should definitely go for it. I was told that I should find a different major and just minor in music, but I didn't have the same passion for anything else that I did for music.
