UGH. Road Rage.

  • Today I experienced my first bout of road rage (not me, somebody else). Couldn’t I have just ticked off a Volkswagen driver or something? No, it had to be an extremely large (larger than normal) semi truck driver.

So I was cruising along listening to Alice Cooper, when I heard sirens warning that an emergency vehicle was coming. So using common sense I pulled over after I crossed the intersection I was in the middle of – just as a fire truck, two cop cars and an ambulance went hurtling by at top neck speed. Isn’t that what we’re supposed to do? PULL OVER. If not then me and about 8 other cars on the road must have been lacking oxygen to the brain since we all did. We had no choice. If we stayed in the intersection we would have be rammed head on by the vehicles. If we didn't pull over on the narrow road - they would have rammed us as well.

Throughout this whole thing this semi driver come barreling towards me and ALMOST hits me (keep in mind, it's not like I can move forward. there is a car in front of me). I’ve never been in an accident, and if I had to be in one I rather it not be with a Mac truck.

So it stops, literally like THIS CLOSE |_______________________________| to my bumper. Then starts BLARING its horn at me, even as the ambulance and what not is passing us by. Whaaat the hell? Can the guy not see the giant arsed fire truck going by? Or hear the 234987398432 sirens. Apparently I wasn’t the only one utterly confused, because the people in front of me and on the other side was looking at the semi with expressions of “Are you drunk man?”

So I pull back onto the road now that the emergency vehicles are gone and… the guy freaking FOLLowed me for about twenty minutes. I even went in a giant arsed circle around the area. I managed to get his license plate number before I got onto the freeway and lost him.

    weruyjdkfhksdj ARHGRAWR.

Wow, what a persistent little bitch. D:<
I hate people who try to act as big and bad as their car, well at least now you could try and report him for tailing you so closely. xD

clock 11-06-2007 04:13 AM

Wow, what an idiot. Stupid truck drivers are the worst
kind of drivers. D: He was probably just mad
because it takes him longer to stop.

AV TB 11-06-2007 04:15 AM

Some peoples need to pay attention, I was once i a car when a guy reversed into it to pull out of a parking lot. Then I almost once got hit by some Arse hole turning and not using his turn single, one person who had the nerve to curse at me and watch what I'm doing. Honestly people these days need to learn some things.

zipperglow 11-06-2007 04:15 AM

Yeah, sometimes people are just comeplete jerks like that. . .

It especially annoys me when hummers and "jacked-up" trucks go roaring down freeways cutting people off. The idiots. . . >.>

Purple Band Aid 11-06-2007 04:19 AM

I know I hate drivers all together most should get there drivers license taken away cause I allmost get hit on a regular bases T_T

Shrii 11-06-2007 04:19 AM

@ Circa - I find it annoying now, but at the time I was terrified. I was all alone, my cell phone wasn't working - and I couldn't go home since my parents weren't there xD.

@Clock Work - He should have just started hitting the breaks the moment he saw the lights on my car signaling I was stepping on them D=. Thats what I do, so I'm able to stop smoothly without jerking or coming close to hitting people. ;_;.

@ AV TB - Ack X_________X. Parking lots are scary. Especially at my campus xD.

@ zipperglow - Oh jesus. That drives me crazy. I get that almost everyday around the time I head home from class. It's double annoying when they don't use signals and it's in busy traffic. I'm lucky my tracker has good breaks xD.

@ Purple Band Aid - we have such horrible drivers her in Spaneway D=.

Purple Band Aid 11-06-2007 04:23 AM

Some drivers don't have patients.

Big semi trucks take longer to stop than normal cars.
xD Although he should've been paying attention more.

Winter Wind 11-06-2007 04:31 AM

I'm not old enough to drive yet, but jeez, that guy's annoying.
x-x

I suppose he WAS drunk.

Thank goodness you're okay though. :]

Purple Band Aid 11-06-2007 04:34 AM

Semi trucks have a trailer behind them so It takes longer to stop and turn.

Truck drivers cannot be drunk. >__>
The workers would notice it before sending him/her
out on the daily routine. And if they got drunk while
they were out, they wouldn't be able to drive at all.

My dad's a truck driver.
So I have to defend them just a little. :'D

Lightswitch Raves 11-06-2007 04:46 AM

Truck drivers annoy me.

In general, they just seem to be asshole-ish people.

Low tempers, constantly speeding...

Admonish Misconstruction 11-06-2007 04:54 AM

Insane truck driver. Those are the type who should get killed at truck stops. *Nods*, I know its bad but its the truth. Such idiots should be taken out of the gene pool.

My road rage is muttering about the other drivers stupidity under my breathe. Thats about it for me XD.

inseCuREly 11-06-2007 05:07 AM

Ohhhh man. D:

I don't have my lisence yet (I may be sixteen, but the book is just SO BORING, I can't bring myself to read it T__T), so I haven't really experienced road rage first hand... but. My mother does drive a delivery van for a living, so she tends to point out stupid drivers to me while we're in the car together. She gets irritated sometimes, but she's a really good driver, and she would never do something like honk at someone for pulling over because of emergency vehicles. o_O

...People who honk for reasons like that are ridiculous, really. Probably shouldn't be driving if they don't know enough to pull over when they hear sirens. THAT IS JUST COMMON SENSE. D:

Speaking of large trucks, though. Mom almost got run over by one in her car once, a while back, because the stupid guy wasn't paying attention and started turning into her lane without looking. >:

shellthabunny 11-06-2007 05:09 AM

Omg I am so glad I don't drive XD

Shrii 11-06-2007 05:17 AM

@ 'clockwork - Yah. A friends dad is a truck driver and he mentioned that. I have no idea what was up with this guy X_X.

@ Lightswitch Raves - I know a few, and they're really nice people. Though I've met a lot of mean ones to XD.

@ admonished nonsense - I rarely if ever get angry when driving. Though the last couple of days of random stuff is beginning to test my patience.

@inseCuREly - ACK. I'm glad your mom is okay.I've never been in an accident, but my mom was once backed into by a garbage truck. We still have no idea how the heck that happened xD.

inseCuREly 11-06-2007 05:19 AM

I'm glad she's okay, too! I think that sparked some kind of instinctual fear of big trucks in her, though. And... backed into by a garbage truck? That's pretty impressive... xD

juniper_silver 11-06-2007 05:50 AM

That's really lame. He had no reason to get upset, you were obeying the law. I had a similar thing happen to me about a week ago. I wanted to turn out of a parking lot onto a road, but didn't have the right of way and there was heavy traffic. It took forever for a spot to come up so that I could get out into the road.

Before that this van came up behind me and the guys in it started honking and yelling at me. It was incredibly obvious that going out into the road would have gotten me into an accident, they were just being assholes and laughing about it.

But I get really angry sometimes when driving. I HATE it when people are following me to close. It makes me want to go 2mph just to spite them. So I just turn my mirror up whenever I don't need it so I don't have to see what the people behind me are doing. Driving is really stressful in my opinion. I need a chauffer :D

Chexala 11-06-2007 06:43 AM

Yikes. That's intense.

Yeah, it's things like that which have kept me from getting my license all these years. (I'm 19.) It's not that I distrust my own ability, it's that I'm freaked out about having to share the road with nut cases all the time. >__<

I guess that's why they teach defensive driving though.

Sigh.

I need to get my license this winter, before my permit expires.

I had a bit of road rage tonight when I was driving to my parent's house. It's a two hour drive from the town I'm living in my parent's house and most of that is on a two lane highway that is out in the middle of nowhere and I was also driving after dark. Well I know that slower traffic is supposed to move over for faster vehicles but this truck (not a semi) gets right up behind me with his brights on and I can't see to move over. I can't tell whether anyone is coming up in the other lane or even see where the other lane is (and if you go off the edge there are large ditches on either side). So I stayed in my lane figuring he could just pass me as he would be able to see what's coming up behind and such. Well he did pass me, and I was very happy to be able to see again. But as I continued down the highway it was a game of leap frog, and eventually the truck ended up behind me again. This time he purposely tail gaited me to the point I was afraid he was going to hit me (mind you I was already going ten miles over the speed limit). He finally passed me speeding off to over 90 mph and as he did I cursed him and gave him the finger. Of course he couldn't hear me and it was pitch black out so he couldn't see me either, so it didn't really make a difference. But it still made me feel better. xD

I haven't experienced road rage first hand, but I was very annoyed one time when Dad and I stumbled upon an elephant race on a mountain road (an elephant race is when two large vehicles try to overtake one another but cannot because the road is too narrow) All the time Dad forced himself not to honk, the others were going side by side, but not getting anywhere in a sense. Not only were the both of us annoyed, but also the curvy road made me carsick like hell and I thought I'd throw up my very organs. It went on like this until we descended the mountain and came to a wider road.

secretdae007 11-06-2007 03:52 PM

O.o I've never really had other people have road rage to me... Well, I had 1 bout of road rage... Only once and my mom nearly ripped my head off for it ;-; Never doing that again...

siaasgn 11-06-2007 04:20 PM

I get so extremely frustrated with how completely self absorbed and unobservant most drivers seem to be - the nicest person in the world is suddenly a complete asshole when they get behind the wheel of a car and this whole *me first* attitude comes out.

In my neighborhood I almost get rear ended all the time because I actually stop at stop signs.

I was actually in an accident a few weeks ago because a guy decided to ignore his yield sign - he plowed into the side of me and did almost $6,000 worth of damage to my car - I'm still in a rental because my car isn't finished being fixed yet.

I think that the tests to get licenses are way too easy and people have this idea that they are entitled to a license and a car - which is not true. Driving is a privilege, not a right, and if you aren't a good driver you shouldn't get a license.

I have people yell at me all the time as a pedestrian to get out of the way- I screamed at someone about pedestrian right of way and he asked me what that was - I told him to read his god damned drivers manual . . . it's so frustrating. It's funny that people who drive for a living seem to be the worst too, cabs and SEPTA buses will run you over and off the road in a second.

Sirec 11-06-2007 06:05 PM

I'm generally calm when it comes to driving. I've luckily never had anyone freak out on me, and I've never had road rage, but my mom gets it bad, and she drives terribly when she's angry >.>

I once saw someone stopped at a traffic light get out of his car and start pounding his fists on some other guy's window while yelling "WHY DON'T YOU FIGHT ME, ******* LIP-RING FREAK!!" 0.0 I don't know why he was so pissed, I had pulled up after whatever happened, but the guy in the other car just kinda kept his windows rolled up and didn't do anything.

Also, kinda unrelated, a few months ago on a road about 5 minutes from my house, I was behind some guy and I noticed he was swerving a little bit. So I stayed way back and seconds later, he swerved onto the other side of the road and hit a rock wall x.x
And THEN he got back onto the right side of the road and was leaking transmission fluid all over the place...and later by the police station (also very close to my house) he was being taken out of his car by police and he was yelling and fighting them and stuff...yep, he was drunk -.-

Oh, and another note, our town is like a little rich town, so alot of kids get brand new cars when they turn 16 (usually driving them before they get their licenses, sometimes even before they get their permits), and most of them total their cars and just have their parents buy them new ones! Grr.
