At first I thought, hmm... semi-automatic gun, something that is loud and slightly frightening. Well anyways now that you mention it I'd probably use a stand up lamp, and anything that's near me. Most likely the kitchen knives after I've subdued them a little. My brother has a sword somewhere in his room too.

Kalium 11-08-2007 10:10 PM

I would take a Döner knife (Those things have long blades) if I could. But I probably couldn't, so I would use the rod-styled rolling pin (which in Turkey is called "oklava") which my family uses for many things aside from rolling dough. It's long, and it could work if keeping oneself away from zombies is what matters.

Komitadjie 11-08-2007 10:12 PM

Kalium, you really hit the point right there. In a zombie invasion, your objective is going to be to stay as far away from them as you can. You're not going to be able to wipe them out yourself, and you'll only be caught in the fire when the military finally settles issues. A rolling pin is a fine weapon, just strike to crush the skull and keep running. Remember, you're going to be surrounded in an instant, so strike and run like hell to avoid being grabbed. Also, wear tight clothing, and cut your hair short to prevent them from getting a grip on you if the do get in close.

I don't know, because newly turned zombies don't always look dead. I mean, one bite can turn a person into a zombie and it doesn't neccesarily have to be a really bad bite, if you go by most of the movies out there. A tiny bite mark on someone's wrist could make them look like a zombie, but they won't be extremely bloodied up or dead-looking. There's got to be another way for a zombie to recognize a fellow zombie, you know?

I don't know, I'd still stick with the shotgun. You can take off one's head, you just have to be closer to do it. They're great for when there's a group of zombies advancing on you. And seeing as most people are going to be holed up in their houses, they're going to have to eventually run out of food and need to go out to find some. While single, calculated shots might be fine when you've got a place that you're safe so you can take the time to fire those perfect shots, it's not quite as useful out in the open with many zombies advancing on you at once. Of course, it could work out if you're good at aiming and shooting a moving target in splits seconds, but most people are not. A good shotgun blast could hit more than one zombie and (hopefully) hinder their advance long enough for you to either blast off their head or high-tail it out of there.

A shotgun is a fine weapon, especially with the larger shot sizes, ranging from about #4 buck up to #000. Just remember that a single cartridge of 12-gauge ammo weighs as much as twenty rounds of .22LR, and at best will hit two or three targets, probably killing only the primary one. I'm not saying it's a bad choice, just not a good primary weapon.

Snarry 11-08-2007 11:23 PM

lol...um I'm not sure, I guess my weapon of choice would be...my bare hands!! RAWR!!

Thunder 11-08-2007 11:27 PM

I think it depends on the person, really. What would be a good primary weapon for one person would not work out for another. I guess it would all depend on where you were, how many zombies were there at the time and what 'type' of zombie they were, and what weapon you are used to or comfortable with.

I think it was the thread creator that said they weren't comfortable with shotguns. So naturally, a shotgun wouldn't be the best thing to give them in a zombie outbreak. And if someone has no clue how to use a rifle, that's not going to be a very good weapon for them. And someone afraid of fire shouldn't go anywhere near a flamethrower. xD

Chexala 11-08-2007 11:34 PM

Assuming that I'd trained with my weapons of choice, I would go with a machete and some form of gun. I read The Zombie Survival Guide, but the gun section didn't stick in my head very well, so I don't know what kind. Maybe a shotgun? In any case, I want a range weapon for when I'm staked out, and a melee weapon for when I'm on the move, etc.

My current location would be a shit place to get stuck in an invasion. I'm in a college dorm, which is somewhat hard to defend, and would be difficult to stock for a siege. I doubt we have much around in the way of weapons. On the plus, my room is on the second floor, and if we all banded together to take out the stairs and share supplies, we might be okay. Also, there is a shooting range on campus that we could raid. We'd have to raid the cafeteria also. It could be done, but it would be a challenge.

Shotgun :3

That's all i'd ever need ^^

Komitadjie 11-09-2007 02:20 AM

Out of curiosity, how many of you guys are familiar with defense tactics and / or shooting? Just curious to see.

Umbrella!
I don't own guns, knives, or anything like a metal baseball bat... so I choose an umbrella. ;D

Komitadjie 11-09-2007 02:27 AM

So, guess who just got designated as the zombie bait? xD

slushi 11-09-2007 02:31 AM

i would probably get myself an ice thrower with liquid ice
that stuff can freeze anything in a matter of milliseconds

* 11-09-2007 02:33 AM

Komitadjie: Umbrella kid? PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO. I don't want to be zombie bait. D:

Komitadjie 11-09-2007 02:48 AM

Uhm... precisely who makes THAT, Slushi? I've never even HEARD of it before, and I stay on top of new military gear. Hmm, maybe umbrella kid should get something to keep the zombies from eating his face? xD

* 11-09-2007 02:53 AM

You can always do some super awesome OPENING of teh umbrella... right in a zombies face. That might be pretty sweet. Or, prod their neck with the umbrella while it is closed. It could go in deep. And sorry for not liking guns. D:
If I did, that would be my weapon of choice, but... I never even fired one. I'd be pretty useless with one.

Komitadjie 11-09-2007 03:08 AM

Your baseball bat would be a far better weapon, actually. That could crush a skull and destroy a zombie, I don't think you CAN hit the brain with an umbrella.

Deadly Mango Kitty 11-09-2007 03:11 AM

I wish I could use a machine gun or flamethrower or something, but I don't exactly have one of those, do I? ( And I don't know how to use a gun. I mean I know yu're supposed to aim and shoot, but I can't aim t save my life. ) I'd have to use something I actually have, like... rotten fruit and a baseball bat? *goes through list of items she has.* Stuffed animals, random wooden sharp objects, metal hangers, chairs, random metal rods. That's about it.

nike13 11-09-2007 03:22 AM

If what I think is right and zombies are dead if you bludgeon or somehow destroy their brain then I would choose a crossbow or sniper rifle. I prefer to kill things at long distances ^__^

slushi 11-09-2007 03:51 AM

Komitadjie-
i'm talking about an upgrade to a flame thrower
instead of flames it would be throwing liquid ice.

why the hell would the military even use these kinds of weapons in the first place??
that's just stupid

Popcorn Gun 11-09-2007 04:07 AM

Depends....
Do they have zombie sensors, like they can tell who is and isn't a zombie?
If not, then I'd pretend to be a zombie and escape to Alaska, provided that I don't get a crick in my neck, x'D

I'd "attack" un-zombified people and bring them along with me.
If forced into a fight, I'd have to use.... some spiky metal object, that would leave a lasting impression.
x'3

edit: Hey now, some umbrella tips are pretty long.
YOu could poke an eye out.

My car. <_< I've seriously thought about this and:
A) There is no way I will own a gun.
B) I'm VERY weak, so a blunt object will not injure a zed if I'm the one swinging it.
C) I'll be screwed if I'm still around on Z-Day, so I'm taking my car and driving somewhere safe. I'll take backroads/unused roads to prevent getting stuck in a jam, but the chances of that are unlikely IMO, since I'm fairly sure not many people around here even know what zombies ARE.

Komitadjie 11-09-2007 04:42 AM

My friends and I have a plan for the local area in terms of evacuation, redoubt, and defense until rescue. It's about a five-day shelter, but it's directly along a main road, so escape should be possible afterwards, provided it was done carefully. If we could somehow resupply, it could hold out indefinitely, well into months of siege.

Hah, I wish I had a z-day plan with my friends. However, there's two problems with that:
A) I still live with my family, and my parents probably wouldn't go for it.
B) I wouldn't trust my friends to look out for my well-being if it came to that.

Komitadjie 11-09-2007 06:26 AM

Heh, there are five of us here that have decided to pitch in our lots together should the day of the dead come. I'm down at college, so family is not really an issue, thankfully, and I usually have plans in place for other emergencies also that translate well into zombie uprising scenarios.
