Chainsaw is an awesome melee weapon, right up until it runs out of gas. Then it's more or less useless, because it's not even a good club.

A machine gun would be fine if you used short bursts or single shots aimed at heads, but as I recall the point of this thread was to use something you have at hand.

Katana is a fine melee weapon for the job, just don't use melee combat unless you have no other choice, because there are going to be too many of them to engage that way without getting mobbed.

@Slushi: Ice thrower? I don't believe that's been invented yet, and unless you're a super inventor person, you won't have one lying around your home XD In the original post, it says keep your weapons realistic, so...Yeah XD

The Zombie Survival Guide is one of my all-time favourite books, actually. xD

The .22 is my first-choice weapon for dealing with undead, mainly because using something larger accomplishes very little. The ammo for a .22 is also very inexpensive, compact, and readily available from almost any store with a sporting-goods department. That will be important if the siege lasts, and resupply is required.

I asked my friend what she's use as a wepon to defend herself and she said a spoon so that wouldn't be a very good wepon unless she's planning on eating the zombies one by one. Eat them before they eat you I think is her plan. The weird people I know. My other friend said she would use an axe which would be good. I still want to go with sharp metal objects on the ends of large poles. A scythe would be and interesting one to use. I've taken a liking to old style farming tools. A scythe and a pitch fork for me.

I think what Slushi is refering to is a a gun that fires cryo-rounds which seem to be bullets that contain liquid nitrogen. Cryo-rounds appear in Reiko The Zombie Shop also from that zombies seem to burn well so a flamethrower might be good.

Really anything can be an effective melee weapon against a zombie, as long as it is capable of either crushing the skull to destroy the brain, or severing the entire head from the body. A scythe would probably work just fine, as long as you were capable of swinging it hard enough.

Supposing that theses zombies that are invading are the voodoo type of zombie. They have been summoned by a voodoo priest and have no controll over their actions then that would be an easy one to get round you just kill the summoner. But if it's the super virus kind of zombies then you'd have to try and fight your way to safety. If I had the choice I would go with the voodoo type zombies much easier to get rid of.

Also quite limited by the control of the summoner. They have to direct the zombies, and they usually are limited to either doing so within eyesight, or giving an extremely simple command to their undead crew.

That's why I'd rather go up against a voodoo type zombie. Although the summoner could hide on a roof top or in a building if you were in a built up area. But once you get rid of the summoner then no more zombies.

Also, that kind of zombie is not nearly as dangerous, because it is not infective. That is the difficult part about combating a viral zombie, they can spread the contagion.

Also, a zombie outbreak of that kind is not going to do more than tactical damage, as opposed to the world-wide outbreak possible with the viral sort.

... Not sure how to analyze that one, actually. You are right that knives are more or less useless against them, and a skull-cracking blunt object would be a good choice for close-in.

Aaaand if there was ACTUALLY magic, the whole point of 'what you have at home' is moot.

Machete, crowbar, or shovel for those melee bits. All of them are well for penetrating the skull, with the machete and the shovel being weighted on one side so I get more power in my swing. The crowbar, while not weighted, has a greater chance of kill by brain removal. Melee is my weapons of choice in general terms due to their silence, and really during zombie days aer silence. One is bad, get the whole colony and bad shit comes.

On silence and efficiency I believe I could use some bolt action rifle in the disposal from firearms. Long distant, easy training, and not very loud. All good for taking those pot shots you need to move on.

Any other weapon I would like is needed for traps, for example my aunt does some road work, and pit traps of tar wouldn't hurt much in stopping them for easy removal. Fire pits wouldn't hurt either. An axe and sledgehammer would be nice if I needed to build a shelter. Zombies with their bad balance would have issues if I messed with the journey toward me with potholes and even a large space where I removed a stairwell.

That is all I got though.

I'd definatly use a... either... explosives or knives.

I would choose a shovel, so i can bury them afterwords. =]
