1. Do you have a diary? Or have you ever had a Diary?

Yes, but I haven't written in it since last school year.

2. If so, what do you write in it? No need to go into detail.

Life in general.

3. Have you ever read anyone elses diary? (examples: Friends, family, famous people, etc. Basically non-fiction, not those fake fiction ones people write about the lives of people long dead.)

Yeah, but it was a pointless one...written by a second grader.

4. Do you keep in journals that you write stories or something else in?

Yep.

5. Anything else that might go with this topic? (examples: A journal which you write to your friends in, they write back...like letters I guess..)

Yep, my friends and I had a notebook that we wrote in to each other and we'd exchange it during classes. But one of my friends left it in their living room and their parents thought it was trash because it was falling apart and what not, so they threw it away. Memories down garbage lain.

Mainly because I strongly believe that the term diary is a more feminine way of writing personal thoughts. It's almost too girly, and too childish for me.

But keeping a journal sounds more professional, more in depth & interesting, not to mention appealing to ALL genders, rather than one.

I support all love, but if I heard a guy keeping a diary, I would think he's gay, regardless of his sexuality.

But if a guy were to say he keeps a journal, I'd have mad respect for him.

Same goes for girls. If I heard them say diary or journal, I would give them respect. But journal just sounds better, in my opinion.
(:

I think the term diary has been given a bad rep. Many powerful men in the past have kept diaries, most of them were not gay. It was a way to keep a record of your life. Nowadays when you think about diary it's all frilly pointless girly stuff..Though I don't write about that. I write about current events, life stuff, questions, things I know.... And then there is my weird thing with words.

I have a journal. Do I keep a journal? Yes, on my shelf collecting dust! Im too lazy to write in it. It takes up too much time, so I vent to my Bestfriend, and i just remember my life.

Yes I have a diary. I hate writing in it because usually someone notices me writing and wants to know what I am writing about. Some people cannot take the hint that you are writing about personal things and do not wish to have them reading over your shoulders.

Quote:

I write about different things. Most of it is personal. Some times it's what happened that day. It could be a poem that I've been working on. Plans or goals for the next week, month, year. Its a way to overcome fustrations I might be having with work, social life, clubs, people, etc.

Yes, but only when they have asked me to. Sometime my friends/students like another input on something that happend to them or someone else they care about.

Yes. This way I don't feel so bad using so much space to write my stories, ideas, bloobs that I hope to use within a story, etc.

Frienship journals are always fun. Until you have a spat with one of your friends, then the whole idea can be ruined due to the fact that the two friends then use it to say mean things about one another. Or, there are those times when you leave it in the wrong place or loose it and someone else finds it. Then if you've written anything personal or mean about someone else it become public knowledge. That is never good.

I have about fifteen diaries that I started, but never kept up with. I'd like to continually write in one because I think it would be cool to keep it and look back on it twenty years later. I'm just either too lazy to write in it every day, or I just plain forget to write in it, so most of them just kind of...died. I would mostly write about things that are typically found in a diary. Things that happened during my day that were important or interesting enough to mention. Things that I'd like to remember when I look back on it. Or rants, just to get something off my chest and help me feel better.

I do have a journal that I keep dreams written in though. I can actually keep up with that one. I save all my short stories and such on the computer, so there's really no need for a journal there.

I have read a friend's diary once, but don't worry, she told me I could. It was an old one of hers from when she was a little kid so there were no horrible secrets she didn't want to get out. xD

Spatterdash 11-30-2007 05:12 PM

When I was younger I kept a diary, but gave up on it for reasons I can't really remember. I really should get back into it again, it was quite fun writing it. It certainly came in handy at the time, since that was when I was an emotional and angst-ridden teenager, and a diary was a good way to safely get some stuff off my chest. It did get a bit repetitive, mind - all boredom, frustration, unrequited love and fanboy excitement.

1. Do you have a diary? Or have you ever had a Diary?
No, I don't/ I treid once but I found myself not writing in it at all.

2. If so, what do you write in it? No need to go into detail.
Well every now and then I pull out a piece of paper and rant, at best.

3. Have you ever read anyone elses diary? (examples: Friends, family, famous people, etc. Basically non-fiction, not those fake fiction ones people write about the lives of people long dead.)
Yes. I'm a little thief.

4. Do you keep in journals that you write stories or something else in?
Yes. I love writing, but I do fiction.

5. Anything else that might go with this topic? (examples: A journal which you write to your friends in, they write back...like letters I guess..)
Well, notes and emails...random pieces of paper sporadically...not much, though.

Wait till you're really old, then you might wish that you had. Lol.

Sun 11-30-2007 06:39 PM

I keep a diary, as i have done for the last five years. I don't really like discussing my feelings though, so i hardley ever write them down.
I keep the diary mainly for the good memories. It's no great literary work or anyhting. I can barley read my own writing at times. xD

psyrien 12-01-2007 04:10 AM

I keep a journal thing. I like it just because I don't have to be on the computer to type stuff--when I'm on the computer I tend to get sucked into other things besides writing. ^^; Besides, if I type on the computer in a journal format, it's usually in livejournal, which other people see. Sometimes I don't need people to read all my personal crap but still want to have it written down. ...and yeah, I could just make it private or type in word, but I feel kinda ridiculous doing that. Some one could find it on my computer much more easily than in a book stowed away somewhere. And part of it is just the act of actually writing. It just can't be replaced.

I also have another notebook that I keep for story drabbling and slightly lighter, less serious stuff. Then there's also a sketchbook for drawing, but I don't think that really counts as a journal. ^^;

Lolly 12-02-2007 12:55 AM

I have a diary.
It contains some serious wordings.
>____o
I vent hardcore in there.
Its locked too, because I know I have a snoopy family.
And its hidden.
I don't like to talk about things,so writing them helps a bit.
And I also have a journal with formulas, meanings, etc.
Helps for school.

I have something to add to this topic from what I already posted....my nosy guy friend thinks I like him (well I used to like him) and when I was at work, he was hanging out with my sister and left my sister's room to go through my room. He went through all my journal's and found things from last year that I wrote about him. He wrote me a note and said "quit the lies" because I tell him I don't like him anymore (well I don't now, but I did then). Do you think that maybe he likes me because he was so anxious to find out if I liked him? Now he is being immature and hanging out with amanda, my sister because he does that when he doesn't want to talk to me....also I was pissed at him last night and I called his phone and left a really nice voicemail. I told him I was done with him and he needs to stop snooping through my room.....I think I am going to finish this topic in the life issues thread.

Dannigirl 12-02-2007 05:47 AM

I have kept a few diaries myself.
They mostly had to do with how my days went and of course embarrassing things that happened to me.
><

Damage Control 12-02-2007 10:14 AM

I used to have a diary... I currently only write down things when something really bothers me, but back in middle school, there was a time I'd be writing in it every spare chance I had.
I just wrote out how I felt, what was happening, who I was mad at, a lot of personal stuff - that last part is the reason I don't keep one anymore. My sister got ahold of one of them, and now I just pretend she imagined the whole thing. It's been a few years, anyways.

I've really only read my sister's diary. The one she wrote in 2nd grade. And all I found out was that she liked Trevor, but they already had a playground wedding, so it wasn't anything new.

Now the only thing I really do is post on my LJ, if that counts as a type of journal. But majority of that is just "Hey, I can go to ____" or "Gee, this band is annoying". Sometimes I'll talk about how I feel or crushes or stuff like that, but not often. A good deal of the time, I type up things I never post. I just type it to get it out of my system, and then delete it all.

  • 1. Do you have a diary? Or have you ever had a Diary?

Yah. I seem to have always kept one at some stage or anothe. When I was 7-8 I kept one religiosly.
    But then I kind of...stopped.
But I've started again this year. It helps alot with dealing with problems with friends ect.
  • 2. If so, what do you write in it? No need to go into detail.
I write all kinds of jazz in it. I have a single diary that goes everywhere with me.
In the front I keep all my school stuff (assessment dates, time tables, reminders). After that, is personal stuff. The journal part I supose.
And in the back, I keep doodles, original character information. Bits and peices that don't belong anywhere else.
My journal is my magical land of me~
    I keep it close.

I've also go my 'Visual Arts Progress Diary', but I don't cont that as an actual diary. It's for a school assessment...thing.
This one I'm not protective of. Anyone can look if they're game. It's just full of art and occational ponderings about my major work.
  • 3. Have you ever read anyone elses diary?
No. I don't do invasion of privacy ♥
  • 4. Do you keep in journals that you write stories or something else in?
Yah. I write bits and peices in my journal all the time.

1. Do you have a diary? Or have you ever had a Diary?
I don't have diary. Well, four year's ago I was writing one, but then, I just throw it away. After about half of a year I tought, that I had written very stupid things (I was 11!).
Then I started writing an online journal. It was better for me, and I think I had there a few quite interesting notes. But I deleted it because people I don't like knew about it, and made myself another one. This second I really liked. I grew up, so I wasn't writting such stupid things.

2. If so, what do you write in it? No need to go into detail.
In the last one, I didn't wrote about how was my day, but only about things which are important for me. Sometimes I put there my poems or wrote notes in poem-style. Almost always I wrote a little bit metaforically or ironically, which probably made this journal more interesting and original.
I still have all the notes from this blog, even if it doesn't exist now. After reading one of these notes I got an idea for a short story ;]

3. Have you ever read anyone elses diary? (examples: Friends, family, famous people, etc. Basically non-fiction, not those fake fiction ones people write about the lives of people long dead.)
Yes, their online journals. But now almost everyone deleted them.

4. Do you keep in journals that you write stories or something else in?
Not exactly. I have notebook for that, but I don't write too much in it.

5. Anything else that might go with this topic? (examples: A journal which you write to your friends in, they write back...like letters I guess..)
I have notebook like that, it's third one XD Me and my best friend often write in it at school. when lessons are boring and we don't know what to do. It's really funny to read this after few months!

Motion 12-02-2007 01:16 PM

I had a diary once, I used it for like a month. Then a few years later I turned to blogging.

Ebil 12-02-2007 01:22 PM

I kept a diary when I was younger. I used it to vent and to get all my frustrations out of my head and on to paper. It was a great way to de-stress. Then I discovered that my sister and my parents had been reading it, so I burnt it and never wrote one again since.
I tried the online ones live journal and dead journal, but looking at others they all seemed so angsty, I kept looking at mine and looking at others and thinking "What am I worried about, my life's easy compared to some" and I ended up feeling like I wasn't angsty enough to be there o_0
So now I just don't bother. If my heads full of stuff I can't deal with. I type it all out and then delete it all. Makes me feel like I've somehow dealt with a problem when I can get it out of my head and then watch it being deleted on the monitor. Of course I still have to deal with it properly, but at least if it's been taken out of my head and I've been able to look at it slightly more objectively than when it's mangled up with all my other thoughts... it sometimes gives me a new idea on how to deal with it.

Motion 12-02-2007 01:31 PM

Ebil! It's me Blass from Ani. Hit me up.

juniper_silver 12-03-2007 03:32 AM

When I was little I always tried to start diaries, but never kept up with them. When I was about 13 I started writing in one every day. I stopped when I was 17 because my brother found one of them and read it. He wasn't mean about it, which was surprising, and he was honest enough to tell me.

I was still extremely embarrassed though(I'd written everything that was going on in my life and held back nothing)and I tried to keep writing, but couldn't bring myself to. Make sure you hide yours well.

I'd like to read some of my friends journals because I'm a really nosy person, but I wouldn't.

DarkMelancholy 12-03-2007 07:29 PM

When I was little, I tried keeping a diary, but it was always about the same thing--I got up, went to school, came home, ate snack, etc. So, I never bothered to keep one.

When I got a little older, when exciting situations started happening, I kept a journal of those experiences. I kept that journal for about a couple of years now... Well, recently, I had torn it up, because it seemed a little unnecessary--meaning I was afraid if someone took the little book and started reading it. That little book had contained happy memories, as well as, dark emotions. Do I regret tearing it up? No. It's best to forget about those specific details of the past.

When my little journal was still intact, my brother and I read the first word of each journal entries. It was the only thing close to reading someone else's written journal, I guess... And, I found out that each entry, I wrote, began with a swear word. :?

I have read a few online journals, but that was for English class.

No, I don't keep a journal with my stories ideas. I tried, but fail miserably. I usually just type up my stories ideas, because it's more organized and neat that way.

I had a couple of online journal blogs, but they never lasted long. There doesn't seem to be a point in keeping one, because I could never think of anything to write in them. So, I ended up writing stories for those blogs. And, some of those stories were about how I felt at that moment in time--my emotions and frustrations disgusted in story form...

3. Have you ever read anyone elses diary?

I used to have a Diary, but I forgot I had it. D:
I write stories. I'm a writer, or so I call myself.
I've never finished a story. It's rather sad, because it might be differet if my mother had never thrown away my first story that I was close to being finished with.

I do stories from time to time too, but I have problems with the endings too. They're always crappy. -_-;

I can write the beginning of stories, and the endings..Just not the middle.
