I got my wisdom teeth pulled today. Yes, all four of them. It hurts really bad now, and I want to chat with people to make me stop thinking about the pain.

Discussion:

Have you had your wisdom teeth taken out?
What other surgeries have you had?

My Answers:

Yep, today.
I had surgery on my foot several times, my tonsils were taken out, and many more.

I've never had teeth pulled, thank God.
I did have surgery on my toes though, killing the nail beds. D:

I still have my wisdom teeth. I'm not taking them out because they are going to push my teeth together to cover my spaces. I don't want to pay for braces so they are the last thing that I have. It sounds painful though. Don't they numb your teeth first though? I remember my sister got it and she kept on drooling on the car ride because she couldn't move her mouth.

  • I had all of my wisdom teeth out at once too. A lot of folks say they don't remember leaving the doctor when they get their teeth taken out, but I remember. I was lucky that I didn't get sick or anything on the way out, I know a lot of folks that have stomach problems from the pain killers and anesthetic. I was numb forever and so hungry, which sucks because you can't chew anything and you can't feel what you're drinking. I probably looked pretty stupid, lol.

I had knee surgery a couple of years ago too. That wasn't pleasant... I messed up my knee two years prior, and had to have a band put into one of my muscles. I had to sleep on the couch for a week because I couldn't get to my room. :( Post-surgery was pretty miserable... Couldn't move, got really bored, had to eat crackers because everything else upset my stomach, lol. AND my boyfriend left for Australia, so I was a lonely gimp for four weeks. I laugh now, but I was so depressed.

I haven't had my wisdom teeth taken out.
I don't even think they're growing, even though sometimes the back of mouth hurts so bad I can't even eat.
I've had 3 other surgeries.
I had one to cut the growth plate in my knee.
One to put screws in were the growth plate was.
And the last to take the screws out because they would hurt.
I hate surgery.
:x

I had my wisdom teeth ( I have no clue as to why they are called that >.<) pulled with I was 19. They were just starting to come in and my Artho said to have them pulled so he could fit me with my braces. SO I had them pulled and stupid me tried to eat ribs that night...Yeah that was a bad idea. It was painful and lead to an infection that quickly healed and so on. I will NEVER do that again >.<

@Takuto: I can move my mouth. I was on anesthia. They did numb me up because I lived two hours away from the dentist office (don't ask why) so they numbed be up because they didn't want me to feel it when I got up. I would have to say the numbing has just gone away not even an hour ago. If you've ever had strept throat or a really horrible soar throat or even your tonsils taken out, getting your wisdom taken out feels exactly like those. Your wisdom teeth are located close to wear your tonsils are anyways and it's just really hard to swallow and it hurts to swallow (like a soar throat). I already ate hard foods and people don't usually do that. I only took one pain pill at five o'clock (when I got home) today and I am doing fine. I had Fries and chicken mcnuggets from mcdonald's for dinner. =D

So far I've lucked out on getting mine removed. My dentist was never sure if I would need them out or if they would just make it. My two bottom teeth came in no problem but room is very tight up top, the top ones are coming in straight but if they get moved or tilted a tiny bit I'll need the surgery.

I've had mine taken out last year, only one side of my faced swelled up though.

One time I was getting a cavity filled or something like that, and the dentist's drill went through my tongue!

It hurt so much....I hate the dentist.

I didn't have them removed yet, but I think that might happen sometime in the future, before I get braces..

I've had a bunch of surgeries.. one on the area between my nose and my mouth because I had a cleft palate (or plate?), one on my hip and inside of my mouth (since I was born with a cleft palate, the bone in my mouth didn't develop at all, so they had to use the bone from my hip), and the most recent one was to remove some cartilage from behind of my right ear so they could put it in my nose to make it look more 'normal.'

And that's not the end of it. I'll have another surgery to fix my jaw problem. :/

My Wisdom teeth jave started coming in, and I can't wait until they're either gone or at least come in all the way.
Because food keeps getting stuck back there and it's REALLY IRRITATING.

I remember having surgery for my wrist when I broke it in 5th grade.

@KNOX
My bottoms didn't come in until this year and I'm 23 ^^ They weren't in any hurry to come in luckily. My dad's came in while he was in high school so it really is different for each person I guess. I really don't see a reason to keep them to be honest though, they're just an extra molar and are actually smaller/shorter than the others (at least mine are).

Nike: I don't really see the point either. Ive known people who got theres right on time and people who got the early. I haven't even lost most of my baby teeth! Only my canines and up are my adult teeth! I find that very weird. `O.o

That sounds like you've got most of your permanent teeth though ^^ It is a little odd that the front teeth are the last baby teeth though, those were the first that I lost. Maybe your nerves are just stronger than normal.

Nike: No, I said canines and up, as in forward. I have all my adult front teeth, and none of my adult back teeth. thats not normal. only the top teeth behind my canines are adults other than the front ones.

Ahh I thought up=backwards ^^; The fact that molars are the last to go makes more sense though, molars are built for more wear and tear so I guess that's what makes them take longer to pop out.

For one, i've never had a surgery...ever, and I'm actually pretty happy about that, but I know in the near future I'm going to have to get surgery done on my stomach/belly button area, I have this strange mole growing there, and it's growing really fast, changes colors (not like pink to green lol) but it changes from dark brown, to lighter brown so sometimes redish...and it bleeds, so that's NOT good, and I actually already went to the doctors and he said there is a chance that it's cancer, but they will have to just cut off the surface to sell...and if it is, then that's when i need my surgery to get all of the roots taken out....really creepy when you think about it. D:

But with wisdom teeth, my dentist said that I should have plenty of room in my mouth to keep them! I'm very happy for that beacuse I've had SO many friends complain and have them taken out and they just tell me how horrible it is...all of my wisdom teeth are in already except for one, that's only half way in, and they are not crowding or messing up my other teeth. Which is great!

I've had all four of my wisdom teeth out, and I've had a root canal, but thats about the extent of my 'surgery'.
Although my Wisdom teeth were all impacted, so that was fun. Fortunately I was under while they extracted them, because I'm -terrified- of needles. I just don't handle them well. Better than I used to, but still not so hot. And I'm very resilient to anesthetics. I came out from under the knock out pretty fast too, faster than my sister even.
It ended up with a really surreal conversation with my (Hypochondriac) father too, who also needed to have his last wisdom tooth out. He really wanted to snatch my medicated mouthwash, and had this loud, anoying conversation with mom after being told his teeth weren't impacted so they wouldn't give him antibiotics or mouthwash.
He was all: Well how do they KNOW my teeth aren't impacted??
Mom:...because thats their job, and because Impacted means that they're fused to the jaw. Deal.

I never got mine taken out...they've never bothered me, and I'd be surprised if they started now...I've had them for years.

Actually, I've never had any surgeries...I think they worst thing I've gone through was getting a bug in my eye...it stuck to the inside of my eyelid and if I tried to open it, it would scrape on my eye and hurt like hell. I finally went to the hospital and they managed to get it out...but yeah; I have a pretty boring life, medically speaking. :o
