I'm not very fond of wasabi, probably because I've never eaten sushi before and therefore, I haven't had many opportunities to try it out.
I do know form experience that it's best to mix wasabi with soy sauce and eat in very small dosages, though.
Like most Asian food, wasabi is very, very hot spices at work, only it'll take some time for you to feel it - usually long enough for you to take another mouthful, thinking it wasn't that bad (prime example: my first taste of Kimchee as a kid). Always have a lot of rice and/or white bread to go with it.

I had a few class mates who had contests in eating table spoons of wasabi one day. Not a very bright idea...

That reminds me of when my friends and I all put a load of wasabi in our sushi we were making and when we tried everyones we rushed to the bathroom! Lol! I love seeing other people eat a whole bunch of Wasabi!!

  • I don't like anything spicey. I have no tolerance level for spicey foods. I've never tried it, but now I don't plan too. My parents eat Sushi alot but I don't really think it looks apitizing.

    So I'm glad the taste is gone but now I'll never try it. Thanks for the advice...

I have never heard of that in my life. I'm so food challenged. XD

Wasabi makes me sneeze like hell. Believe it or not.
The first time I tasted wasabi was when my brother took me to a Japanese restaurant. Neither of us had eaten Japanese food before, so we had absolutely no idea what we would get. We ordered some sushi set menus, wich came with wasabi. My brother told me that a Japanese student had warned him about how sharp the taste of wasabi was and that we should eat it in extremely small quantities. So I took a piece, no larger than the head of a pin, and as soon as I put it into my mouth, I felt as if I was breathing green flames. "Damn, brother, that guy was right!" was all I could say. Though I do like the taste of most sushi, I'll never eat it with wasabi ever again. Ginger is okay, but no wasabi for me pl0x.

I love wasabi . .. I mix it with my soy sauce to dip sushi in.

I think of it more as a horseradish than spice- it's 'hot' but not in a spicy way- more of a back of the nose/ sinus burn.

I don't like spicy food - but I do like horseradish and wasabi - I think it's because spicy food irritates my throat and makes me cough - horseradish and wasabi don't make me cough.

Wasabi with sushi is great.

California rolls FTW!

I can't stand wasabi. ;3; I only recently started liking spicy foods and wasabi totally exceeds that spice limit, you know. XD

I don't eat anything on my sushi anyway. Definitely enjoy its natural flavor!

Oh hun.
D:
See, I've only tried it, a tiny little bit, on my sushi.
D:
I refuse to touch it because I can smell it a mile away.
So I try to stay away from it, it burns mah nose.

I like Wasabi, but within reason. Usually just a little bit spread over a california roll, or say wasabi coated roasted cashews or something like that.

I will disagree with this in some cases.

Spices more follow in Thai or Chinese dishes rather all Asian foods. Take for example Japanese food. Their food is more subtle with less spices. Some could say that it's almost bland in taste (or it would be compared to American food). It's more because they use the pureness of flavor.

  • O_o;;

    Grew up eating sushi and sashimi and putting the wasabi and shoyu mixture on like I would mustard and ketchup on hotdogs. >_>; So it's kind of interesting to hear...people freaking out on something that's not really all that unique in my diet.

    I have cans of wasabi peas in my pantry. Awesome snack. xD

    @Youn: ...white...bread? D:
