Walking in High Heels

After seeing this Youtube video about a model falling twice in heels (you have to see the second fall xD), I was wondering how many have skills in walking in heels.

There are all sorts of baby pictures where I would dress up in my mom's clothes and shoes. But once I hit my teens...I lost interest in anything girly. Surprisingly, I'm in college and NOW I'm starting to show interest in shoes other than sneakers. ^^; Not exactly high heels, but wedges...

*sighs* I can't walk in high heels (or any kind of shoe that's not flat in general) to save my life. xD
Any tips on how to learn besides...practicing a lot? ^^

-High heels. Like them? Wear them? When did you start if you do?
-Are they attractive or pains?
-Funny falls - just hope you/they didn't get hurt!
-How funny those news anchors are in response to watching the video. xD

Ooooh wedges! I love them, but I think I did go too far when I once bought one. I liked this wedgy shoe, it was like 3 - 4 inches in heels, and my mom totally disagreed that I buy it. But then, silly me, I insisted buying the cute shoe. So after that day, she and I went shopping. And shopping, and shopping and shopping. Well, you get the picture. So of course, we kept walking, and I didn't have much trouble with the shoe, except that I had problems of climbing stairs at times. But then, when we got home.. My mom was all laughing cause my foot really looked swollen--from all that shopping. And her feet were NOT even close to my feet's swollen-ness. She wore flats. xP Well, I kinda learned my lesson not to wear them on a heavy shopping trip, even if they DO make you look good.

I don’t like high heels in general. I hardly ever wear them because I never have a reason to. I’m not into things that are very girly. I can walk in high heels fine when I do wear them, it just feels awkward. I’ve never fallen, but I’ve seen plenty of girls fall. This one time at a club, I was on stage dancing with this other girl that was on the other side of the stage and she got mad and started yelling at me then went to get off stage and slid down the stairs. That is why being drunk and having high heels on is a bad idea.

I absolutely CANNOT walk in them. I mean I can, uncomfortably, and manage to make it look semi normal, but half an hour later, my feet are ready to fall off. x.x

And what's weird, is that I could wear them fine when I was a kid. I don't really know what happened... :(

  • I'm a rather unco person but I'm alright in heels, as long as I don't have to walk a long distance. IT HURTS. D< And I don't wear stilettos because I'm paranoid about the stiletto heel getting caught in places. XD

I think high heels are okay to wear once in a while, but you shouldn't wear them too much or you'll get massive calf muscles (or some other muscle in your leg). Seriously! XD

An in regards to that video, I feel very sorry for that model. @[email protected] It must've been so embarrassing, not to mention she probably twisted her ankle. I know someone who used to be in the fashion industry and would help models get dressed behind the curtains.. walls.. whatever. XD She said that many of the models actually have to wear shoes that don't fit them properly.

  • Oh I remember seeing that on tv a while ago, poor girl. I think she was new, too. >.<

I'm not much of a shoe person and I rarely wear heels, but when I do, I can walk fine in them unless I'm doing a lot of walking or if the shoes don't fit right. I wear boots with hidden wedges in them often. They make me about two inches taller and people can't tell that it's because I'm wearing tall shoes. 8D They are also super comfortable and I can walk in them just as well as I can in tennis shoes.

Trinitydoll 12-08-2007 11:48 AM

Well funny video but poor girl I can imagine how much she had cried after that...poor her,
well about the topic mmm I like how high heels look in models though I always wonder if they are in pain or not.
I dont like high heels in myself though It would be nice to make myself a little taller by wearing those, but no.
I like living comfortable even in fancy elegant clothes I prefer not to suffer from the pain just to make myself look pretty to others.
High heeled shoes are a pain, period.
They hurt your feet, Any doctor can say that to you, they are dangerous and you cannot walk properly, besides you are always at risk ...why in god's heaven would someone do that if not for a fashion show?
when I was younger I remember wearing them sometimes for weddings or parties and I remember how my feet ended and then one day I decided not to expose myself to that anymore and enjoy the parties!!! x3

Omg if I wear high heeled shoes, even those small pointy healed shoes with hardly any height to them at all I feel as though I will fall over in them at any minute and break my neck! I am quite tall anyway for a female and don't feel the need to wear heals. I like comfy flats coz my feet are rather large. I hate shoe shopping coz most of the times shops with anything girlie or nice don't have the things I like in my size, not only are my feet large but they are flat and wide so therefor they make it even harder to get shoes I like wearing!

High heels can add a certain 'power suit' look to the right outfit, and there's been a psychological study that women feel empowered hearing the sound of high heels on mall flooring, which is why it's designed how it is. Overall though, I don't wear them. I can walk in them (I think the trick is partially in putting your feet one in front of the other, sorta like walking a tight rope)
But both my knees are bad and wearing heels puts an enormous amount of stress on them.
Ones with big whonking heels are a bit easier to balance in, and still give you the added lift if you're trying to get the look, but you really have to be careful of the fit. Especially if you'll be wearing them for any extended period.

speedvolt 12-08-2007 12:53 PM

Uh... I don't really know but how does it feel to walk on those outbalanced things anyway?

Nightgaunt 12-08-2007 12:58 PM

You kinda have to concentrate on your toes. Walk around on the front part of your foot with your heels in the air and it might give you a certain idea of it, only imagine part of your weight is balanced on a spike of support of various width. With an thin heel, wearing them long enough starts feeling like your heel is resting on the blunt end of a nail.

Aurora 12-08-2007 01:24 PM

Aww, poor lady, that must have been embarrassing. xD

I don't wear high heels, only wedges sometimes cause I trip and fall in high heels...D:

Suspense 12-08-2007 01:36 PM

I laughed my head off at that second fall xDD It's not the fact that she fell which is funny since that's kind of sad, but the WAY her feet kept wobbling when she fell xD

I guess those are the types of skills you have to develop if you want to be a model. But I remember watching a season of America's next top model (cycle four...or five, I dont remember xD) And one of the girls kept buckling. But she got better after a few weeks...until she got eliminated xD

But nuh. I CANNOT stand high heels. They hurt my feet and I'm always fall down in them. I love wedges though. They make you look taller and are still comfy xD

I remember the first time I wore a pair of heels, they were only about an inch high, but they were pointy and slippery. I fell and sprained my ankle xD That was the last time I EVER wore/bought a pair of heels xD

Nightgaunt 12-08-2007 01:45 PM

Ugh. I have to cringe at the ankle story....
I took out the arch of my foot with a pair of heeled shoes with no back. The Shoe shot forward, I went to put my foot down to stop it and planted the arch of my foot firmly half off the shoe. Bruised the bejeebus out of the arch of my foot. That hurt for days.

Menteur 12-08-2007 02:55 PM

XD
Haha, that was funny. Poor girl though...
Anywho. I love high heels. I can walk in them 90% of the time. They're fun to wear, except when they start to hurt and you're not allowed to take them off D;

Thunder 12-08-2007 03:13 PM

The last time I wore heels was about three years ago. Luckily, I didn't fall or anything. xD I do a lot of things that would definitely not be comfortable to wear heels in, not to mention that I'm tall and I pretty much always wear jeans or pants. No offense to anyone, but heels with jeans looks ugly in my opinion. So I don't really need or want them. I'd rather wear something comfy, you know?

HIM_ROCK 12-08-2007 04:03 PM

xXGirl_With_A_DreamXx you are not supposed to discuss gaia or any other avi site in this area there is an place to discuss other sites. So you better get rid of the link and the bit about gaia.

I wear heels most of the time. I have stiletto heeled shoes and boots that I wear for school even though your not supposed to. The heels aren't that high on them so people don't really notice.

dreamerice 12-08-2007 04:19 PM

I myself cannot wear high heels, I don't like them, they hurt your toes, and are hard to walk in, but i think that some women look good in heels and I do think you have to have some style and grace to do that. I don't know how women dance in them, like dancing with the stars it amazes me to see them dance in heels.

[L]ove[H]ate 12-08-2007 04:26 PM

I can't walk in heels because my foots messed up. =/

Sirocco 12-08-2007 04:40 PM

Walking in high heels definitely isn't for me. I'm quite tall and I don't think I need high heels - wedges too, even if they aren't SO uncomfortable. I wear only low heels, and I do this only sometimes, for special occasions. To be honest, I've never try to wear high heels, and I probably never will. They make me scared! XD
And also, besides that they are uncomfortable and hurts your feets, if you wear them too often (particularly if you are young and still grow a little, like me XD), they could deformed your feet a bit... or something like that, because it isn't a normal position for feet.

And video was quite funny, but girl... she's really poor. It had to be so embarassing...!

Kalium 12-08-2007 04:48 PM

Oh man, wearing high heels is an absolute nightmare for me. I'm a small girl, though, so I need them  I know how to walk in high heels but very soon my feet will beg me to take them off and put on something more comfortable, or better, nothing whatsoever. I have flat feet, so they don't even fit me like they should for most of the time. Thankfully, occassions when I do have to wear high heels are rare.

Elemental Cotton 12-08-2007 04:54 PM

I only have wore high heels once, and that was several years ago. I could walk in it, but it's not as comfortable, and if I wanted to look taller, I'd just put in my platform boots, since I'm worried about the heel getting caught in places.

Nariko 12-08-2007 05:22 PM

I tried walking in high heels... once. The heel was no more than an inch high, and I nearly twisted my ankle on the second step. They weren't very comfortable either. Flats are more comfortable for me, and I am tall enough already without an extra inch or two from high heels.

  • -High heels. Like them? Wear them? When did you start if you do?
High heels?! LOVE 'em! Always wear 'em. I started in the fourth grade...and now I'm in college. Yes ^_^

    -Are they attractive or pains?
Very attractive, but can be a pain as well...it just means they look good (On Monday though a pair of my "comfy heels" gave me blisters because the straps were rubbing up against my foot too much. Bad.) I wear wedges, heels, platforms, WHATEVER! I love them all!! I only have one pair of sneakers and a billion pairs of heels. At least I'm taller with them on! The highest I've gone was 6-inch heels...those are a REAL pain because the cross straps always fall down so I always have to fix them.

-Funny falls - just hope you/they didn't get hurt!
    I don't fall, I trip on them a lot.

-How funny those news anchors are in response to watching the video. xD
    I didn't watch the video.

aonith 12-08-2007 05:46 PM

Actually, I'm not attracted to hight heels, though I'm not very tall person. I wear them extremely rarely and prefer avoid them if there is a chance. Actually, I absolutely don't remember, when I started wearing them... guess somewhere in the middle school.

Actually the are both attractive and pain ( that's why I don't wear them)I prefer to wear something comfortable, than pretty. Well, that's just me. >.<

And I never fell xD Lucky me.
