LOL, that's great. I wouldn't ever wear anything unless I knew what it said, or could ask someone reliable what it said. I don't really see much point in wearing something that says something in a language I don't speak... Unless it said something really funny maybe, and I knew what it was that it said. I'd probably consider wearing a shirt like the lady you mentioned saying "I want to fuck you" just because I would find it hilariously funny to wear something that said something like that. Although I would certainly use discretion when it cames to where I would wear something like that and who I would wear it around. o_o; So I'd definitely not want to wear something like that if I didn't know it said something bad. XD Anyways... Something I find kind of funny is Engrish stuff. Probably the people who wear that stuff don't know what most of it means. My boyfriend is Japanese but lives in America and speaks both Japanese and English. He bought a pair of boxers in Japan. XD Anyway, he wore them for me, and I got a big kick out of them because they had all these Engrish words written on them. We sat there just looking at all the different words and phrases on them and laughing at them because a lot of them didn't make much sense... And one of them sounded dirty, though that was because of the context he used it in and the fact that he was sitting there with me in nothing but boxers. XD It said, "Make one dream come true." And he was trying to hint at something to me... XD Yeah... So very wrong. But it was funny as hell.

*giggles* I don't have T-shirt stories (there's one picture I found on DA that a guy took while he was in Japan -- pretty funny xD Along the lines of "FUCK ME" or something like that x3 I have Engrish stories though xD

A friend of mine went to Japan as a foreign exchange student and took a picture of a sign in a shop that said "No Photoglaph Please" xD It made us all giggle :3 Logically, it should have been a pretty easy transition, since it's the Japanese who technically don't have an 'l' sound to speak of and the closest thing to it is the 'r' xD;

I was also up in Seattle recently and went to a Daiso shop -- ended up buying lots of stationary with cute Engrish xD There was an elephant that was watering a bunch of flowers, and a caption that read "Happy elephant, soursour" xD I about fell over giggling -- it's adorable xD A friend speculated that maybe the target word had been "shower," but yah :3 On another, there was a bumblebee buzzing around the margins and a bunch of four leaf clovers -- the text read "And the bee found the clover..." I wish I could remember the others right now, but they're not in front of me and I'm too braindead to recall xD I love Engrish though :3

As for kanji tattoos -- It really is a crap shoot xD; The soursour friend was at a state fair once where there was a booth for air brush tattoos -- of course they offered kanji, and of course there was 'love.' xD She was only a first or second year student at the time, but love is just one of those kanji that some people choose to learn early and it just sticks, and she said that it definitely wasn't the kanji for "love" xD; Thankfully :3 It wasn't permanent. ^_^

I was reading the national newspaper that we get at our house today and there was a woman who has the word supermarket tattooed on her. She thought it said her ex-boyfriends nick-name and so only found out after showing it off at her local chinese what it really said. so she was going round for six years thinking that it said something else.

I'm Chinese, and I can read a bit of chinese characters. It often works for japanese kanjis too.

At work, I often see people with characters tattooed on and I ask them what it is.

They have no idea most of the time... So I ask my mom and she comes over to see if it's a chinese character which she can then explain.

@ Rainiy - In china, from a documentary in chinese that I was watching, I could see so many English grammar mistakes...

At oriental shops I often groan over the english mistakes too... but the trinkets are so darn cute!!

Oh God, I love Moon Child. I've always made everyone watch it, ever since I first got it. xD That scene is by far one of the most awesome movie scenes EVER.

Anyways I don't really see people wearing things they obviously don't understand very much around here. I've seen more than enough of that with watching, listening and going to see Jrockers, though. The SexPot ReVeNGe brand is awesome in that it'll have a LOT of really bad Engrish on it, though. I have a scarf and the thing I always laugh at is the last line on it, that says "no feable bastard". I love buying things with Engrish on them, for some reason. It's just so entertaining.

he wore this white shirt in my languange which i cant remember what it says...but i only remembered that it wasnt something that he would hope for..something stupid XD
i always watch the miami ink, a tv show ...theres a japanese guy who works there so he knows how to read kanji..theres this customer who wanted to have a kanji word means "love" ..she showed him the letter, luckily the guy know what it means..its something far from love ..cant remember either..i think it means spork or something like that...so i thought, if only the guy weren't there..how would she be, walking around with that kanji letter..XD

I always find it funny when people get tattoos in a different language that mean something totally different from what they thought it did. I know it's humiliating for them, but I can't help but laugh inside.
Because of this, however, I don't wear things that have writing in another language.

I can't stand it when people who aren't from a culture, create words for that culture. My example comes from role playing terms for 'yaoi'. There are 'seme' characters (the dominant ones) and 'uke' characters (submissive ones) and somehow, over the time, Americans decided that instead of typing out 'in the middle' they were just going to create their own Japanese word for the whole thing. Guh... It really annoys me that people do stuff like that.

My sister plans on getting a Japanese Kanji tattoo... but she fully intends on knowing the extent of it's meaning first... Mainly because people give her 'Japanese stuff' that's actually Chinese symbols, and then... well... Guh again.

My aunt did that.
But she was high as the sky so I don’t think she knows what she was doing.
She got the word “road� tattooed on her arm but she wanted ‘‘sky’’ but in Spanish.
How she/the artist messed up “sky� and “road� I’ll never know.

Well, this is kinda related, but when I was younger everybody wanted to go round insulting each other in Polish~ I'm half-polish
So I went around saying "I am a -INSERTRUDETHINGHERE-" and they were all like OOH WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? And I was like " It means I am the best"
So they went around saying it all day... XD and we had polish cleaners at our school, they must've thought they were all crazy or just plain stupid ^___^

Basically the moral of the story is, don't believe everything you're told. A girl in my class is obsessed with anything chinese/japanese/korean and she has online penpals and asked one of theme who spoke cantonese (i think) what her name was~
When she came to school she ran up to her Chinese friend and showed her what her name was~ Afterwards the friend told me it meant stupid or something XD
My aunts and cousins don't speak English well and often walk around with t-shirts saying things like "I like guys with big dicks" and they don't know what they're saying DX

I've never done that [thankfully]. But that's because Cantonese is my first language, so I can read quite a bit of chinese.

I find the mistaken meanings funny, but the half-correct ones always annoy me. Like for example, 'peace' is 'ping an' in Mandarin. But when people get tattoos, they only get the 'ping' character- which means 'flat' on its own [like, you could argue that it still means peace, but the 'an' character does that sooo much better]. And that irks me heaps.

Has anyone ever seen one of those t-shirts that say soething along the lines of 'How to learn japanese' and you turn your head upsidedown and it says 'Fuck you'? My friend had one and can't understand how he can't understand japanese by turning his head around.

Reminds me of when I was in Spain... They have dirty shirts there O.o; I did laugh at a few though.

If I could reading in character written languages, such as Chinese and Japanese, I would probably mess around with people xD Like, if someone asked me what this mean, I would make something amusing up, even if I knew it was what they thought it meant.

I would never think to get something like a tattoo (which is both permanent and expensive) in some other language without extensive research. T-shirts... probably though xD I feel like googling "Engrish t-shirts" to see what I get xD

xD I really should learn to read Japanese/Chinese if this is the reward that comes out of it. Sadly, I only know how to speak Korean, but most people don't get Korean tattoos anyways.

I pity the people that have tattoos they think are cool until someone comes along and translates, because they either have 'Ketchup' tattooed to their arms or they have to pay to get it removed.
