I remember that part of the movie. XD I lol'd.

The only shirt I have in another language is this one that says I <3 Hentai in Kanji. (Watashi <3 Hentai?) even though it's grammatically incorrect. XD Asian people were a lot of shirts that have English writing on it, and they don't know the hilarity of it. (Browse around engrish.com, you'll know what I mean.)

My Japanese teacher was talking about Japanese writing as tattoos, and she mentioned something about "onna" which some people use by itself as the word for woman, but apparently it can't be used by itself? (I forgot what she had said about it) I have seen a shirt on jynx.com that said "otaku no onna" or something. << I guess it's incorrect?

Hahah, that's just too funny with the kitchen one. xD
I remember on my trip to Japan, so many people were wearing shirt in english, my favorite one was one that said "Fuck me I'm famous."
Haha, so english speakers aren't the only ones guilty of having things they don't mean. ;]
Didn't see any english tattoos though..

The grandmother story was hilarious xD

That's hilarious. I was in China once, and my cousins were wearing these so-called trendy American shirts. You know the shirts that have a picture of Butterfingers and then change the word Butterfingers into Butterflies or something. Well, yeah, one of my cousins had a shirt of Snickers, only instead of Snickers, it said Fuckers. I was like OMG do you even know what means?? The sad thing is, I don't know how to say Fuck in Chinese. ^_^'ll

Yes, I have.. And I usually just leave them alone..
I really don't care about those kinds of people..
Well, I do, but then I couldn't do anything about that anyway.. So I just let them live the way they like..
But there are also times when I really make a big deal out of those things, too..

ehe! It's true that people do wear things like that. For example, walk down a street in Japan, and you see crowds of children wearing shirts with broken English like: Dream is like eat on cloud.

Well, I never actually met someone like that, but my sister once told me that there was this guy in her school that went to China. He was wearing a t-shirt with a chinese character on it, so he was on some tour, and his tour guide sees his t-shirt and starts laughing. Then the boy is confused, the tour guide asks the boy, do you know what that means on your t-shirt? And the person says, well, the people at the store told me it meant "Lucky". The tour guide laughs some more and says "It means 'kick me'"

Wow I really feel sorry for that Spanish lady who went out wearing that shirt ><

Anyways personally, I have met people who wear/have things that have words they can't understand. Most of the time it is Chinese symbols because people seem to like them. I don't mind these people, but if they go around thinking it means something good when it doesn't I just find it really sad. I don't think I would actually tell them if I didn't know them.

This thread reminded me of this one time when I was trying to teach this guy French and he tryed to say what I told him to say and he totally screwed it up saying "I want to pet your [blank] " >.< Then I just stared it him a while and then said "No. I wanted you to say 'I want to pet the puppy.' " and then he blushed and he said "What did I say then?" and I was to embarassed to tell him so I said "Let's call it quit's for today." I think he relized what he siad after that. It was very disturbing. I shall never try to teach anyone French again.

@Demon: Lol, that is a pretty embarrassing thing! People often do make mistakes like that when they are learning new languages though.
That reminds me of when we had an exchange student from Korea in our class. He wasn't able to pronounce the word 'sheet' properly. Whenever he needed a sheet of paper he would say shit of paper instead xP

@Silent: Lol I see so many shirts with broken English when I go to these Chinese plazas around my house. I have a good laugh when I read them to myself xD

I would never wear a shirt that said something I didn't understand, and I would definitely never get a tattoo in another language if I didn't know with 100% certainty what it said. Heck, I won't even wear shirts in English that I don't get (either because the message is obscure or because I don't get the joke)! I'm that way with band and concert Ts, too. I only wear shirts with bands on them if I really like the band, know a lot of their music, and know at least a little about the people in the band. I only wear concert Ts when I actually attended the concert (except for maybe if I could get my hands on a Woodstock '69 shirt or something -- I think it's okay to wear shirts from famous concerts, especially if you're obviously not old enough to have attended). I don't even wear shirts with statements I disagree with (for instance, political slogans I'm not on board with or words like "SLUT" or "ANGEL BABY" that I wouldn't use to describe myself).

Maybe I'm just picky, though.

I also would never wear a shirt that had words I didn't really believe in. That is why I stay away from those printed/graphic tees stores sell. They always have odd statements like "I make boys cry" or "I know how to give someone a good time" o_____o

I know! Some of them I probably wouldn't wear even if they were true. Who wants to broadcast how many boyfriends they've stolen? 0_o

I found a shirt amid all of the silly printed Ts at Wet Seal the other day that says "Peace and love are the answer to save the planet -- Reduce Reuse Recycle". It has all kinds of funky graphics on it and little decals that say things like "Flower power" "Love Saves" and "Make love not war". Now THAT is the kind of shirt I'd love to wear (I was so happy to find it!). I may not completely agree that just loving people will save the planet (I'm not quite that much of a hippie ;-) ), but I definitely agree with the overall sentiment.

Lol, yup! Any shirts about relationships or hinting at sexual stuff should NOT be flaunted in public >_>
O, that shirt does have a great message! I also found a shirt the other day that said 'Love your Heritage' and it had a tree on it. That is another shirt I would be comfortable wearing because it has a very positive message.

  • Silly! XD

I always found the grammatically incorrect notebooks, bags, shirts etc etc hilarious. :3 If I do get a tattoo, it'd be my dad's family's name somewhere, but it's a pretty common last name in china.. o_O And chinese people would probably think i'm a freak if I get it tattooed on myself. xD
